Morning by Morning, November 6 - Pressing In for Healing Mercy and Love of God

Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are my Savior, my Healer, my Deliverer. You are the fullness of my salvation and forever in my heart. I begin my day looking to You and listening for Your voice.  ...

"A large crowd followed (Jesus) and pressed in on Him. Now there was a woman who had been suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years.... She heard about Jesus, and came up behind Him in the crowd and touched His cloak, for she said, 'If I but touch His clothes, I will be made well.' Immediately her hemorrhage stopped; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease" (Mark 5:24-29).

The woman with the issue of blood had heard about You and Your love for all people. She had heard about Your power to heal hearts and bodies to the glory of God. So she found You and pressed in for an encounter with You. Her suffering drove her to her Savior. "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled" (Matthew 5:6).

No doubt she had felt ashamed and isolated for those twelve years of her sickness and suffering. Under the law of Moses, she was considered "unclean" with her "impurity" and everything and everyone she touched was considered to be defiled by "the uncleanness of her impurity" (Leviticus 15:25-27). What a risk she was taking to press through the crowds and press through the culture to touch You and take hold of Your garments with her faith!

As she did, You were "immediately aware that power had gone forth from (You)" (Mark 5:30). You knew someone was healed, someone was set free by the power of the love of God. Yet it mattered to You who it was. You wanted to look in their eyes and speak to their heart. You "looked all around to see who had done it," asking, "Who touched My clothes?" (v. 5:30-32).

She humbled herself before You "in fear and trembling," not denying her sin of touching You in her impurity and not denying the hope that was in her heart to experience and encounter the healing power of Your mercy and love (v. 5:33). She confessed to You "the whole truth," holding nothing back from You (v. 5:33).

But instead of shaming her or condemning her, instead of lecturing her about the law or teaching her to just accept her lot in life and be satisfied with her condition, You blessed her and encouraged her. You honored her, calling her "Daughter" and declaring to her and to all who were there to see and hear, "Your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease" (v. 5:34).

All that You did for her and for all who pressed in to take hold of Your mercy and love as You walked this earth was an expression in the flesh of the heart of God (John 5:19). And all that You continue to do for me and for all who press in past the crowds and our culture, past our suffering and sin to experience and encounter You and the healing power of Your mercy and love come to know the Father heart of God revealed through Jesus Christ as Lord in the power of the Holy Spirit (Hebrews 13:8).

You're still healing the broken-hearted and setting the captives free. You're stilling proclaiming the coming of the Kingdom of God and demonstrating it the power of God (Isaiah 61:1, fulfilled in Luke 4:18). You're still seeking out all who will press in by faith to take hold of You. I praise God for Your mercy and love. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays
