Morning by Morning, August 31 - True from the Heart
Good morning, Lord Jesus.  Come into my heart and every moment of my day.  ... "(Jesus) said to them, 'Isaiah prophesied rightly about you hypocrites, as it is written, 'This people honors Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me; in vain do they worship Me, teaching human percepts as doctrines.' You abandon the commandment of God and hold to human tradition'" (Mark 7:6-8). Not only with my lips, but with my heart also; not only with my morning prayers, but with my choices throughout the moments of my day also -- I worship You in spirit and in truth. May I be faithful and true from the inside out, rather than the outside alone. Uproot and remove all that merely ritual and religion. Give me a passionate desire and uncompromising hunger for authentic relationship with You. May my actions and my heart be genuine expressions of my true faith in my one, true God. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

May your actions and your heart be a guanine expression of your true faith in our one, true God throughout your day, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, August 28 - Awake to Grace
Good morning, Lord Jesus. I speak out Your name and awaken to Your grace.  ... I hear You writing a new song in my spirit this morning.  ...
I awake
To Your grace
To seek Your face
Here, in my heart
Here, at the start
Of this new day

I arise
I come up high
My spirit flies
Here, in my heart
Here, at the start
Of this new day

I will go
Down the path You show
Where Your Spirit flows
Here, in my heart
Here, at the start
Of this new day
Lord, it's so good to awake to grace. It's so good to know I have a clean slate and a fresh start, that my sins are forgiven and my heart is clear, that I'm so welcome in Your embrace to begin my day in the very Presence of God. "Who will ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in His holy place? Those who have clean hands and pure hearts.... Such is the company of those who seek Him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob" (Psalm 24:3-6). By Your tender mercies and the power of Your grace, I have clean hands and a pure heart before You. "If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation:  everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!" (2 Corinthians 5:17) You're forever inviting me to "approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that (I) may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need" (Hebrews 4:16).  I need You every hour, every moment of every day. And You're always here with me, welcoming me and embracing me and reminding me I can awake to grace every day. "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness!" (Lamentations 3:22-23) In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

I pray you will awake to grace every morning in the welcoming, embracing, loving grace of our God, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, August 27 - "Be Strong, Do Not Fear, Here is Your God!"
Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are One with the Father and One with the Holy Spirit. Be One within me as I seek You in the communion of prayer.  ... "Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. Say to those who are of a fearful heart, 'Be strong, do not fear! Here is your God. He will come with vengeance, with terrible recompense. He will come and save you'" (Isaiah 35:3-4). Sometimes it feels like our hands are week and weary from well-doing and our knees have grown feeble from the long journey. We need to hear Your word in our hearts or hear Your voice spoken through a friend -- "Be strong! Do not fear! Here is your God!" And when respond to Your call and lift up our eyes to You and off of what's making us feel weary or worried, You come and save us. You come and strengthen us and encourage us and empower us. You lift up our spirits as we lift up our hearts. For You are always ready to help and "mighty to save" (Isaiah 63:1). Daddy Abba, my Father God, send forth Your word, utter Your voice. Strengthen me and encourage me and empower me today. Fill me afresh with Your Holy Spirit, Who's always leading me to Jesus, my Savior, to embrace the fullness of my salvation in You (John 14:26). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

May the Lord our God strengthen you and encourage you and empower you today wherever you may feel weary or worried, in Jesus' name. Be strong, fear not, for God is with you! Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, August 26 - A Voice Cries Out in the Wilderness

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Here I am to worship and wait for Your leading in my morning communion of prayer with You, O Lord, my God -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  ...

"A voice cries out:  'In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places plain. Then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all people shall see it together, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken'" (Isaiah 40:3-5).

Come, Holy Spirit. Prepare the way of the Lord in my heart and in the earth. Lift up every valley of discouragement, depression, anxiety, fear, failure, doubt and unbelief. Bring low every mountain of pride, arrogance, self-centeredness, self-sufficiency, and self-righteousness. Straighten out every crooked place of sin, shame, distortion, corruption, compromise, and complacency. Make way for the King of glory here in me, here in my world, here in my time.

For myself and for the people of God in my land, where our hearing has grown faint or our spirit has become dull, awaken us to hear the voice of Your Spirit crying out to us in our wilderness of the world and dry desert of faith. Let us arise and shine, for our Light has come, and the glory of the Lord shall arise upon us in the midst of the darkness that seeks to cover the earth and even the souls of the people of God (Isaiah 60:1). Let us hear the voice of the One crying in the wilderness of these times, "Sleeper, awake! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you!" (Ephesians 5:14) In Jesus' name pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

May you hear the voice of the Spirit speaking to your heart to arise and shine that the light and the glory of the Lord may arise upon you in the midst of your world, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, August 25 - Covenant of Peace

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be at the center of who I am and all I do today.  ...

"For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but My steadfast love shall not depart from you, and My covenant of peace shall not be removed, says the Lord, who has compassion on you" (Isaiah 54:9).

Stocks markets and economies may tremble and shake. All that was built by the hands and in the plans of man may seem to crumble and fall to the ground. But our God is with us. Your hand is upon us. You hold us in Your grip of grace in the midst of all that trembles and falls around us.

Your commitment of love shall not depart and Your covenant of peace shall not be moved. And when all that can be shaken is shaken to its core, only what can't be shaken will remain (Hebrews 12:27). You will remain. And You will keep giving us the grace to remain steadfast and secure in You alone. "Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult.... The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge" (Psalm 46:2-7).

Your covenant of peace is unshakable and unbreakable. You are our "Mighty God" and our "Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6). So whom shall I fear and what can make me afraid? By the power of Your grace, I will not fear, for I know that You are with me (Isaiah 43:5). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

May you remain at peace, confident the grace and power of our God to keep you secure in the midst of all that may tremble and shake around us, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, August 24 - Seeking Wisdom and Understanding

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I speak out Your name and listen in for Your voice, asking You to lead me through the moments of my day.  ...

"Happy are those who find wisdom, and those who get understanding, for her income is better than silver, and her revenue better than gold. She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called happy" (Proverbs 3:13-18).

Today is the first day of school for one my younger sons, Elijah, going off to the eighth grade at Dr. Hector P. Garcia Middle School, here in San Antonio. I pray for him and for all his teachers, I pray for the students and all their teachers in all the places where our children go to learn, whether in public schools, private schools, or home schools. May they hold fast the words of truth You've already spoken and sealed into their spirits, yet hungry and eager to learn and grow "in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people" (Luke 2:52 NLT).

May they feel safe and secure, confident in who You have created them to be. May they seek Your discernment to filter all things through Your Word and by Your Spirit to embrace what is true and set aside what is not. May they connect and bond with Godly friends who will encourage them and enjoy the journey of education with them. May they focus and excel, steadfast in their faith and growing in grace, changing the very spiritual atmosphere of their schools as the carry the Spirit of Christ with them everywhere they go, empowered by Your Spirit to "do everything for the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31).

As parents and teachers, may we have Your wisdom and grace to "train (our) children in the right way, and (believe Your promise that) when (they grow) old, they will not stray" (Proverbs 22:6). Help us listen to their questions, help them with Your answers, and encourage them as You teach them and equip them with wisdom and understanding through those You have chosen to influence and inspire their lives. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

I join in prayer with you for all our children and their teachers as we entrust them to God and the place of education where He has strategically positioned them for all His purposes in them and through them, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, August 21 - A Heart That's True

Good morning, Lord Jesus. All that I am and all that I have, I entrust to You today, O Lord, my God -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  ...

"For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the entire earth, to strengthen those whose heart is true to Him" (2 Chronicles 16:9).

I want a heart that's true -- faithful to You, thankful for You, wholeheartedly committed and surrendered to You. And when I need to be strengthened -- which is most every day in some way, whether I know it or not -- I know Your eyes are upon me and Your arms are around me and Your Spirit is within me.

By the power of Your grace, whatever I face, I know I will overcome because Your eyes are upon me and Your face is toward me. "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). So help me begin each day and continue through every moment of every day coming to You and resting in You "with a true heart in full assurance of faith;" and in the power of Your strength, I will "hold fast to the confession of (my) hope without wavering, for He who has promised is faithful" (Hebrews 10:22-24). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

Morning by Morning, August 18 - Seeking the Mind of Christ

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Speak to me from Your Word, speak to be by Your Spirit, speak to me however You will, for You are my Shepherd and I am listening for Your voice.  ...

"'For who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct Him?' But we have the mind of Christ" (1 Corinthians 2:16).

Lord Jesus, I pray for the mind of Christ.

I know we all have to begin by humbly and honestly acknowledging that Your thoughts are not our thoughts and Your ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55:8). But that's just the beginning; that's not where we're to remain. We're to seek You and Your thoughts and Your ways. We're to embrace Your Spirit at work within us to change our thoughts and renew our minds (Romans 12:2). We're to seek to "come ... to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ ... no longer children ... we must grow up in every way into Him who is the head, into Christ" (Ephesians 4:11-16). We're to "let the same mind be in (us) that was in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 2:5).

As I'm praying, a funny picture from my childhood is coming to mind, from growing up watching the television series Star Trek. People used to tell me I looked like Captain Kirk, so maybe I watched it a little too much! But Mr. Spock would sometimes stretch out his hand and take hold of someone's head to do "the Vulcan mind meld" so that they would be of one mind on a matter.

Lord Jesus, would You stretch out Your mighty right hand to me? (Psalm 118:15) Would You take hold of my mind. Cause my thoughts to be more like Your thoughts so that my ways will be more like Your ways. I want to me more like You (1 John 3:2). Make me more like You each day (Romans 8:29). "Make my joy complete:  (let me) be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind" with You (Philippians 2:2). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

I pray the Holy Spirit in you will stir in your heart to pursue the mind of Christ, in Jesus' name. May the Lord Jesus stretch out His hand and take hold of your mind today, that you may be of one mind with Him. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, August 17 - God's Will and My Freedom, My Heart in His Hands

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Let me experience Your presence, hear Your voice, and follow Your leading as I begin my day in the communion of prayer with You, my God -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  ...

"The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He will. All deeds are right in the sight of the doer; but the Lord weighs the heart" (Proverbs 21:1-2).

You're the sovereign Lord who rules and reigns over all, according to Your perfect plans and Your perfect will. Yet, at the same time, You've created us in Your perfect nature of love, in Your image of love, for a relationship of love. And a true relationship of love requires the freedom to love You or not, trust You or not, obey You or not.

You turn our hearts according to Your will; and at the same time, You weigh our hearts based upon the choices we make in the freedom of our hearts to love You and trust You and obey You or not. In the morning by morning, moment by moment tension of these two truths, both Your sovereignty and our freedom are just as true and just as real.

Every day, You "set before (us) life and death, blessings and cruses," inviting us "Choose life so that (we) and (our) descendants may live, loving the Lord (our) God, obeying Him, and holding fast to Him" (Deuteronomy 30:19-20). Every day, You invite us to "choose this day" whom we will serve (Joshua 24:15). And every day You remind us "Those who love Me will keep My word, and My Father will love them, and We will come to them and make our Home with them" (John 14:23). "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. I have said these things to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have love you" (John 15:10-12).

So as best as I can and all by Your grace, I entrust my heart into Your hands today. I willingly choose to open my heart to Your desires, according to Your plan and Your will for my life this day. Move in my heart by Your Spirit to cause me to desire and to do what is right and pleasing to You. Empower me to love You and obey You in the freedom I have in Your sovereign will for my life. "For it is God who is at work in (me), enabling (me) both to will and to work for His good pleasure" (Philippians 2:13). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

May the Holy Spirit stir in your human spirit to put your heart in God's hands today to love Him and trust Him and obey Him as best as you can and all by His grace, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, August 14 - Come in, King of Glory!

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I commit my life and this day into Your hands.  ...

"Lift up your heads, O gates! and be lifted up, O ancient doors! that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O gates! and be lifted up, O ancient doors! that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory" (Psalm 24:7-10).

King of glory, I lift up the gate of my spirit. I open wide the door of my heart -- that You may come in. Come with Your host of heaven, Your mighty warring angels. Come with Your Holy Spirit, You abiding and intimate and powerful Presence. Come strong and mighty to overcome and conquer everything in me that's not yet like You.

You are the King of glory. You are the "King of kings and Lord of lords" (Revelation 19:16). You are my King, my Lord, and my Savior. You are mighty and strong, triumphant and true, here in my heart and every moment of my day. And because You are mighty in me, I am more than a conqueror in You! (Romans 8:37) In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Morning by Morning, August 13 - "Seek His Face"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind and Your prayers in my heart, as I begin my day seeking Your face.  ...

"'Come,' my heart says, 'seek His face!' Your face, Lord, do I seek" (Psalm 27:6).

As I seek Your face in worship and prayer, in trust and surrender, in passionate pursuit of the One who pursues my passions, You embrace me and call me to pursue You even more passionately still until You are the One Thing I desire most. "One thing I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after:  to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple" (Psalm 27:4).

Increase that passion in me. Increase that hunger in me. "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled" (Matthew 5:6). Fill me afresh with Your Spirit today. Fill me afresh with a holy passion to pursue You above all else. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

Morning by Morning, August 12 - "With Great Boldness"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Speak to my heart; awaken my spirit to come alive in Christ today.  ...

"Since, then, we have such a hope, we act with great boldness" (2 Corinthians 3:12).

My hope is not in fairy tales or false religion. My hope is not in my self or man's ways. My hope is in You. You are my God and You love me and You have a plan to express Your love and Your nature through me. So empower me in this hope that I have to "be strong and bold," to "have no fear or dread" of anything less that all You have for me "because it is the Lord (my) God who goes with (me); (You) will not fail (me) or forsake (me)" in any moment along the way of my journey each day (Deuteronomy 31:6).

When people "saw the boldness" of Your first disciples who were filled with Your Spirit and growing in Your nature as You expressed Your love and Your power through their lives, they "were amazed and recognized them as companions of Jesus" (Acts 4:13). Those disciples of Yours wouldn't shut up and wouldn't hold back; they weren't intimidated or afraid to be who You created them to be -- witnesses of hope and warriors of love (Acts 4:20).

Just like them, I'm one of Your disciples too. And I'm filled with Your Spirit too. So I pray for more boldness -- the boldness that can only come from deep intimacy with You as companion of Jesus. And with boldness of faith and confidence in You, empower me to live this day so that all who see me and the hope that is within me will be drawn to the love and power and grace You have for each one of them (1 Peter 3:15). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

I pray you press in to deeper intimacy with Jesus and grow in boldness to live and to share the hope that is within you, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, August 11 - "My Anointed One"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I am Yours and You are mine. Come walk with me every mile, through every moment of my day. ...

"I have prepared a lamp for My anointed one" (Psalm 132:17).

By the grace of God upon me, by the Spirit of God within me, I am an anointed one. "As for (us), the anointing that (we) received from Him abides in (us)" (1 John 2:27). "It is God who establishes us with (one another) in Christ and has anointed us, by putting His seal on us and giving us His Spirit in our hearts" (2 Corinthians 1:21-22).

And You guide my steps with Your lamp. "Indeed, You are my Lamp, O Lord, the Lord lightens my darkness" (2 Samuel 22:29). Your Spirit within me and Your Word before me lead me through every question I'll ponder and every challenge I'll encounter. "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path" (Psalm 119:105).

Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on me, rise up within me, anointing me and empowering me to be a disciple and ambassador of Christ today (2 Corinthians 3:3). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

Morning by Morning, August 10 - Humility of Heart

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Make me more like You today.  ...

"God resists the proud, but give grace to the humble.... Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up" (James 4:6-10 NKJV).

In humility of heart, I want to willingly choose to be desperately dependent upon You alone. Set me free from my selfishness and self-centeredness, from my insistence upon my independence apart from Your wisdom and authority in my life. Forgive me for my pride that says I'll do it my way, instead of Your way and demands my will instead of trusting Your will. Give a heart that honestly says, "not my will, but Yours, be done" (Luke 22:42).

You are the God who "leads the humble in what is right and teaches the humble (Your) way" (Psalm 25:9). You are the God who "adorns the humble with victory" (Psalm 149:4). And it's to the humble You grant Your favor and Your blessings (Proverbs 3:34).

I admit I need a more humble heart. Help me have the courage to boldly entrust my heart into Your hands and commit my will to Your will every day. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

May you experience the blessings and favor of God, as you humble your heart in His sight and allow Him to lift you up and lead your life, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, August 7 - Best Friends Forever

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Speaking Your name and waiting for Your leading in the deep communion of prayer, I want to start this day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit.  ...

"Thus the scripture was fulfilled that says, 'Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness,' and he was called the friend of God" (James 2:23).

I'm a servant, but I'm also a son. I'm created by God, and I'm also a child of God. I fear the Lord, but by the grace of God I'm also a friend of God. Like Abraham, I believe. And now, through Christ, all the blessings of Abraham are mine --"that in Christ the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith" (Galatians 3:14).

One of the greatest blessings of Abraham is to be a friend of God. You said to Your first disciples, "I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made know to you everything that I have heard from My Father" (John 15:15). And You are "the same yesterday and today and forever" in Your relationship with every disciple who believes in You (Hebrews 13:8).

Lord Jesus, You are my Lord and Savior. You are my "Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6). And You are my Best Friend forever. You are fiercely loyal, forever by my side, through thick and thin and come what may -- "a real friend (who) sticks closer than a brother" (Proverbs 18:24 NLT).  Give me the grace to fully embrace this great gift and blessing of friendship with You every day. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

May you fully embrace the great gift and blessing you have in Christ of friendship with God every day, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!
