Morning by Morning, September 29 - The Feast of Tabernacles, Celebrating the Harvest of the Kingdom of Heaven Good morning, Lord Jesus. Fill my heart with Your Spirit and ground my thoughts in Your Word, as I begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit of God. ... Starting at sundown last night and for the next seven days, we’re in the season of celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles, according to the rhythm and cycles of the Biblical Calendar of the appointed times of God: “You shall observe the Feast of Tabernacles seven days, when you have gathered from your threshing floor and from your winepress. And you shall rejoice in your feast, you and your son and your daughter, your male servant and your female servant and the Levite, the stranger and the fatherless and the widow, who are within your gates. Seven days you shall keep a sacred feast to the Lord your God in the place which the Lord chooses, because the Lord your God will bless you in all your produce and in all the work of your hands, so that you surely rejoice” (Deuteronomy 16:13-15). The Feast of Tabernacles is a feast of the harvest of the wheat and the wine. It was commanded to be celebrated perpetually throughout all generations (Leviticus 23:41). Like all the other feasts and sacrifices, all the Law and the Prophets, these were a type and shadow of ultimate fulfillment in You and Your Kingdom, Lord Jesus Christ (John 5:39, 46; Luke 24:27; Matthew 5:17-18; Romans 10:4; Hebrews 10:1-7). “For all God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding ‘Yes!’ And through Christ, our ‘Amen’ ascends to God for His glory” (2 Corinthians 1:20). The Feast of Tabernacles speaks of joy, celebration, and thanksgiving. The work was finished. The harvest had come in. There was joy in the house of the Lord. Not a time to be silent, but a time to shout out their praise from hearts thankful for the goodness of God. I shout out my praise to You this morning, my Lord. I’m thankful for Your goodness. I’m thankful for the harvest. I’m thankful that the work is done through the finished work of The Cross for my salvation and that now I get to join in the work of the Kingdom of God by the power and grace of Your Spirit moving through me and all the Body and Bride of Christ, that Your Kingdom may come and Your will may be done, here on earth as it is in heaven. And I’m thankful for the harvest to come. Souls that will be saved. Lives that will be changed. Healing, deliverance, revival, and awakening. Here on earth as it is in heaven. Here in my heart. Here in my city, my region, my nation, and to the ends of the earth. The final harvest speaks of “the end of the age,” when all the seeds of righteousness sown by the Lord and the all the seeds of evil sown by the enemy of our souls have been sown into the earth and have grown up to maturity for the harvest (Matthew 13:36-43). Every cycle and season since You spoke those words in one of Your parables about the coming of the Kingdom of God on earth as it is heaven, has been a foretaste and a foreshadowing of the final harvest to come. In our day, as in every other day in the unfolding of time, we have the battles of righteousness and evil, the seeds of good manifesting in the maturity of the wheat and the seeds of evil manifesting in the maturity of the tares, all growing up together. And there is a day coming for “the furnace of fire” and the “wailing and gnashing of teeth” for the wicked (Matthew 13:42). But at the same time, “the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the Kingdom of (our) Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” (Matthew 13:43) So let us be about our Father’s business, by the power and grace of the Holy Spirit at work within us, moving through us, in the authority of Your mighty name to the glory of our Father. Even as we engage the battles, even as we celebrate every harvest, let our hearts be filled with Your joy that’s unspeakable and sometimes not even understandable. For You have come and dwelt among us, even tabernacled within us (John 1:14; John 15:4). Every day in Your Presence is a time of celebrating Your harvest--every harvest that’s come and every harvest that is coming and every harvest that is yet to come until the final harvest at the end of the age. For “in Your Presence is fullness of joy! At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore!” (Psalm 16:11) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
