Moving Day - April 30, 2021

Morning by Morning, April 30 - Moving Day

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be my Vision and my Light, as You lead me by Your Spirit on every step of my journey -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...

“Now the Lord said to Abram, ‘Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ So Abram went, as the Lord had told him...” (Genesis 12:1-4).

Today is moving day. From San Antonio to Fredericksburg, from the big city to a small town. It’s not too far as the crow flies, but it’s the next step of our journey as the Spirit leads.

We’ll still be very connected with friends and ministry here, but also embracing new friends and new opportunities of ministry there. It’s the home of Fredericksburg peaches and the heart of the Texas wine country. And we pray for a new season of the fresh fruit of Your Spirit (Galatians 5:22), as You pour Your New Wine into the new wineskins of the home and community You’ve set apart for us there (Mark 2:22).

We’re not Abraham and Sarah, but we are praying to be a blessing to everyone we meet and everywhere we go. So as we pack up and “go” to land You’ve shown us, we thank You for the good seed You’ve sown in us here and the good fruit You’ve brought forth here.

We’re excited to see what lies ahead. And we’re confident of Your promise for all who trust and obey to follow Your leading -- as best as we can and all by Your grace -- that the best is yet to come (Haggai 2:9). “As it is written, ‘What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the human heart conceived, what God has prepared for those who love Him’ -- these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit” (1 Corinthians 2:9-10).

Holy Spirit, be with us today and lead us on today. We thank You, Father God, for all that lies behind and now we take hold of all that lies ahead. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

Casting Down Our Crowns - April 29, 2021

Morning by Morning, April 29 - Casting Down Our Crowns

Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of kings and Lord of lords, be the King of my heart and the Lord of my life -- this day and every day. ...

“Day and night without ceasing they sing,

‘Holy, holy, holy,
the Lord God the Almighty,
who was and is and is to come.

And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to the One who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall before the One who is seated on the throne and worship the One who lives forever and ever; they cast their crowns before the throne, singing,

‘You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for You created all things,
and by Your will they existed and were created’”
(Revelation 4:8-11).

You are worthy of it all. You’re worthy to receive all glory and honor and power. You’re worthy to receive all my worship, thanksgiving, and surrender.

I’m still learning about the “crowns” and all that means in our lives and spiritual journey with You. It seems there are many “crowns” mentioned in Your Word: the “imperishable crown” (1 Corinthians 9:25), the “crown of rejoicing” (1 Thessalonians 2:19), the “crown of righteousness” (2 Timothy 4:8), the “crown of glory” (1 Peter 5:4), and the “crown of life” (Revelation 2:10).

By the mercy of Your grace and the mystery of faith, we are “a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation” (1 Peter 2:9). You have “made us to be a kingdom and priests to our God and (we) will reign upon the earth” (Revelation 5:10). “Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years” (Revelation 20:6).

I have so much to learn, but this I know: Whatever “crowns” there are, whatever “crowns” may ever be entrusted to me by the grace of God, You alone are worthy to receive all “glory and honor and power” -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. You alone are worthy to receive our worship and praise. And one day You alone we see every crown we’ll ever have cast down at Your feet before Your throne.

You are worthy of it all, O “King of kings and Lord of lords” (Revelation 19:16). May You be crowned with many crowns -- here in my heart and throughout my world. For one day we will see this Word completely fulfilled: “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” (Revelation 11:15) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, may you give all glory and honor and thanks to our God, as you live your life for Him and cast down your crowns before Him, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Strengthened in the Lord for the Battle - April 28, 2021

Morning by Morning, April 28 - Strengthened in the Lord for the Battle

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Lift me up into the embrace of Your Presence -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God -- as I begin me day in deep communion with You. ...

“Now when David and his men came to Ziklag on the third day, the Amalekites had made a raid on the Negeb and on Ziklag. They had attacked Ziklag, burned it down, and taken captive the women and all who were in it, both small and great; they killed none of them, but carried them off, and went their way. When David and his men came to the city, they found it burned down, and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive. Then David and the people who were with him raised their voices and wept, until they had no more strength to weep. David’s two wives also had been taken captive, Ahinoam of Jezreel, and Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel. David was in great danger; for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in spirit for their sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God” (1 Samuel 30:1-6).

David was already weary from the battles. Then he was shocked and dismayed at the loss of all he held dear and all that was entrusted to his care. Everyone with him wept and cried out in aguish and grief, nearing hopeless despair for all that their enemies had done to them. Then, in great danger of betrayal and blame, David was nearly stoned to death as everyone’s rage and pain was turned against him.

More than a bad day, it was maybe David’s worse day. But “David strengthened himself in the Lord his God” (v.6).

He turned to You. In the humility of desperate dependence upon You alone, He “inquired of the Lord” (v. 8). He waited on You for Your answer, Your wisdom, Your guidance. And then he obeyed everything he heard, as best as he could and all by Your grace. You called him to get up from his grief and be girded up with faith to “pursue” his enemies until he had taken back all that was stolen from him and from all entrusted to his care (v. 9).

Some were too weary to go with him. Maybe some were too mad at him to go with him. But he gathered those who were of one heart with his to trust God and obey, and “went on with the pursuit” (v. 10).

By the power and the grace of God, David found his enemies, still gloating over their plunder (v. 16). And with unrelenting faith in the word of the Lord and the power of Your might, he and his men engaged their enemies in the fierce courage that only You can supply, until “not one of them escaped” (v. 17). He took back all that was taken. “Nothing was missing, whether small or great, sons or daughters, spoil or anything that had been take. David brought back everything” (v. 19).

Your Word says that all that happened to those under the Old Covenant in former times and all that happened in the battles and struggles against their enemies of flesh and blood speak to us of the spiritual principles in our battles against our spiritual enemies today. Their struggles and battles, their failures and successes, “serve as an example, and they were written down to instruct us, on whom the ends of the ages have come” (1 Corinthians 10:11). “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).

So come, Holy Spirit. Teach me Your ways. Teach me how to “strengthen myself in the Lord” like David did.

No matter how desperate the times, how disappointing and devastating the failures I face or the battles I’m in, You’re always drawing me to a deeper place of humility in You -- desperately depending upon You alone. And You will give me the courage of conviction, with all the strength of faith I need to get up and go in pursuit all You have for me and those entrusted to me. It will never be by my might or my power, but always by Your Spirit, when I’m strengthened in the Lord (Zechariah 4:6). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

The Everlasting God - April 27, 2021

Morning by Morning, April 27 - The Everlasting God

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Arise in my heart by Your Spirit, as I wait here a moment in Your Presence before I arise and go into my day. ...

“Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
    His understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the faint,
    and strengthens the powerless.
Even youths will faint and be weary,
    and the young will fall exhausted;
but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength,
they shall mount up with wings like eagles,
they shall run and not be weary,
they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:28-31).

Everlasting God -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit -- You’re everlasting in mercy and everlasting in love. You’re everlasting in faithfulness and fulfillment of every promise of Your Word. You’re everlasting in an eternity that has no beginning and no end in ways that unsearchable and beyond our understanding. And at the same time, You’re everlasting in every moment of our day and every detail of our lives.

You’re everlasting, but we’re not. Though spirit and soul will live for eternity, these physical bodies that carry us through our days on this earth will not. They grow faint; they get weary; they become exhausted.

But even then, You invite us to draw near to You, to open up to You, to wait on You a little while. And as we wait, as we worship, as we lift up our hearts and allow our spirits to arise into the intimate communion of Your Presence, You renew us and refresh us. You lift us up on eagles’ wings and fill us up with spiritual life.

Then we’re ready to run again. To run and not be weary, to walk and not grow faint. Until it’s time to come wait on You again and allow us to be strengthened again in the deep embrace of Your Presence. Thank You for this gift and grace of Your everlasting Presence, our everlasting God. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, may you be refreshed and renewed, ready to run again, as you wait on the Lord in the deep abiding Presence of our everlasting God, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

“Please Lower Your Mask” - April 26, 2021

Morning by Morning, April 26 - “Please Lower Your Mask”

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I welcome You here in my heart and every moment of my day. ...

“Come and hear, all you who fear God,
and I will tell what He has done for me.
I cried aloud to Him,
and He was extolled with my tongue.
If I had cherished iniquity in my heart,
the Lord would not have listened.
But truly God has listened;
He has given heed to the words of my prayer.
Blessed be God,
because He has not rejected my prayer
or removed His steadfast love from me” (Psalm 66:16-20).

We can be honest with You -- with our iniquities and with our needs. We can open up to You and cry out to You -- without any fear that You won’t listen or stop loving. You don’t reject our prayers and You don’t remove Your love. You’re the God who sees and listens and cares.

But our part is to humble ourselves to turn to You and open up to You. We’re tempted to cover up our shame and wounds, to hide behind our fears in isolation or secrecy from what’s going on inside and behind the walls we’ve built. In trying to protect ourselves in our own way, our own strength, we’re really pulling ourselves away from You in the very places where we need You the most.

So You reach out. You draw us near. And You remind us that You love us and never reject us. You encourage us that You’re for us. And if God be for us, who can stand against us.

But we have to respond. We have to cry out. We have to ask for Your help and be willing to receive it. A true relationship of love with You requires that we always have the freedom from You to love You or not, to open up to You or not, to turn to You and cry out to You, and make our prayers and needs known to You or not.

My wife and I were recently travelling for ministry and were going through the checkpoint at the airport. I showed the officer my photo id and my boarding pass, waiting on the green light and ready to go through the security gate. But he asked me first, “Please lower your mask, so I can see your face.”

What a picture that is for us. You invite us to lower our mask, to let down our walls, to open our hearts and let You see us as we are -- face to Face, heart to Heart. Then as You meet us where we are and remind us who You are and whose we are, we can go through the gates that are set before us. We’re secure in Your love as we travel through our world, knowing You even as we are known.

So I let down my mask to You. I open up my heart to You. I welcome You into my morning and every moment of my day. By the mercy of Your grace and unfailing love, I can be honest with everything going on inside of me because You’ve made me unafraid and unashamed to open up and go everywhere with You -- the One who sees me and knows all about me and yet keeps on loving me and travelling with me every day of my journey. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, may you be secure in the steadfast love of our God, who sees you and loves you and knows all about you, freeing you to be honest and open with Him about all you need, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Filled Up and Poured Out with Fire from the Bowls of Heaven - April 16, 2021

Morning by Morning, April 16 - Filled Up and Poured Out with Fire from the Bowls of Heaven

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I lift up my spirit into communion with Your Spirit, as I worship You in spirit and truth to begin my day intentionally connected and deliberately focused on You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...

“Another angel with a golden censer came and stood at the altar; he was given a great quantity of incense to offer with the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar that is before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel. Then the angel took the censer and filled it with fire from the altar and threw it on the earth; and there were peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake” (Revelation 8:3-5).

Somehow in the mystery of Your sovereignty and our obedience, of Your plans and our prayers, our prayers not only matter, but move Heaven. Somehow our prayers are gathered up to fill up the bowls of Heaven being offered up before Your throne until the perfect time of Your purposes on the Earth.

“Then I saw between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders a Lamb standing as if it had been slaughtered, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. He went and took the scroll from the right hand of the One who was seated on the throne. When He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell before the Lamb, each holding a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints” (Revelation 5:6-8).

“The prayers of the saints” are filling up the “golden bowls.” And there will come a day, in the fullness of time, when all that been filled up will be poured out. There will be “peals of thunder” and “flashes of lighting.” There will be “fire from the altar” of Heaven and the fullness of all that means on that day when we’ve filled the bowls and You say they’re filled enough. They’re filled up to be poured out.

We don’t know all that that means. But we do know You will be the One who determines the day and the way that Your Word comes to pass.

So every day between this day and that day to come, in foreshadows as forerunners of that time ahead, may we keep lifting up our prayers to You and You keep pouring out Your Fire in us. May we be filled up like the bowls of Heaven to be poured out with Your Holy Fire of Your Presence on Earth. Prayers are lifted up and Hoy Fire falls down -- in us and through us, setting our hearts and our world ablaze with the Presence of God. “For indeed our God is a Consuming Fire!” (Hebrews 12:29). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, may you be filled up and poured out with Holy Fire from Heaven, setting your heart and your world abaze with the Presence of God, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

“Above All” the Rancor and Unrest - April 14, 2021

Morning by Morning, April 14 - “Above All” the Rancor and Unrest

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Your sheep hear Your voice (John 10:27). Your children are led by Your Spirit (Romans 8:14). Let me hear You and follow You as I begin my day seeking You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. ...

“Above all, maintain constant love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without complaining. Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received. Whoever speaks must do so as one speaking the very words of God; whoever serves must do so with the strength that God supplies, so that God may be glorified in all things through Jesus Christ. To Him belong the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen” (1 Peter 4:8-11).

“Above all.” Above the rancor and unrest. Above suffering injustice and enforcing justice. Above dialogue and diatribe. Above speaking out or being shut up. Above all we face and all that tries to face us down as we go through the challenges and crises of this broken and fallen world that desperately needs Jesus, give us the gift of Your grace to still “maintain constant love for one another.”

Empower us to be hospitable. Deliver us from complaining. Equip us to steward the grace of God You’ve entrusted to us to be different from the world.

Give us the heart of God so we can speak “the very words of God” (v. 11). Anoint us with the Presence and power of Your Holy Spirit to speak life instead of death, truth instead of lies, hope instead of despair, to overcome evil with good and hatred with love by the power and strength of Your Spirit that only God can supply.

Let us use the gifts You’ve given us for good and for Your glory. You’re “glorified in all thing through Jesus Christ” (v. 11) -- not by our taking matters into our own hands, but by entrusting all matters into Your hands. Not by saying, “We’re done with thoughts and prayers,” but by humbling our hearts in the humility of prayer to be transformed by the renewing of our minds, so that Your thoughts become our thoughts and Your ways become our ways (Romans 12:1-2).

Then when we take a stand, we’ll stand in You. Then when we speak out, You’ll speak out through us. Then when we run to the battle to fight the good fight, we’ll be fighting “the good fight of the faith” instead of finding ourselves fighting on the side of the one “who comes only to kill and steal and destroy” (2 Timothy 4:7 and John 10:10).

Every faithful and true disciple of Yours still says with a heart of humility instead of a heart of hatred, “Lord, teach us to pray” (Luke 11:1). Then when we’ve prayed, then we can say Your words with Your heart to “turn (our) world upside down” in the power and authority of Your love (Acts 17:6). That’s the only power that ever overcome and “cover a multitude of sins” So may we be “good stewards” of the power and love of God You’ve entrusted to us and release through us in the authority and character of Your name. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, may you be empowered by the Holy Spirit to be a good steward of the grace of God entrusted to you, to speak His words with His heart and fight the good fight of the faith in His ways, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!
