Morning by Morning, July 8, 2025 - “Through It All” When Life Ends Too Soon. Trusting God Through the Tragedy of the Texas Floods Good morning, Lord Jesus. My eyes are on You—Father, Son and Holy Spirit of God. ... All the world is grieving over the devastation of the floods in our part of Texas. Overwhelming trauma from the stories from our near-by neighbors who lost lives and homes and businesses and everything they had. The horrific stories of the little girls at the Christian Camp Mystic on the Guadalupe River and their heroic camp director who literally gave his life trying to save every last little girl he could, as he was drug for miles down the river. And at the same time, we’re so thankful for every story of rescue, every story of heroism, every story of the community coming together to help in every way, every story of help pouring in from across the country and around the world. You are with us through it all. As the song declares that we sang out in church on Sunday morning, with heavy hearts for all our region of Central Texas is going through—“Through it all. Through it all. Our eyes are on You.” That’s the only way it can be well with our souls amidst such grief and sorrow. To keep our eyes on You. So many are already home with the Lord in Your arms. “To be absent from the body (is) to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8). And in the Presence of the Lord there is no more sorrow or suffering or pain (Revelation 21:4). We do not grieve as those who have no hope, for our hope is in You (1 Thessalonians 4:13). And our peace in the midst of all this suffering and trauma and shock is to know that Your heart breaks with us and You are right here with us. As Your Word declares the Promise of Your Presence through it all: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;     and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,     and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God,     the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.... Because you are precious in My eyes,     and honored, and I love you, I give men in return for you,     peoples in exchange for your life. Fear not, for I am with you” (Isaiah 43:2-5). Thank You, Lord. You are with every hurting heart, every gut-wrenching, soul-shaking encounter with the grief and sorrow being experienced in this broken and fallen world while all creation still groans for Your restoration of all things (Romans 8:22; Acts 3:21).  Thank You for fulfilling Your Promise of being with us “always”—“always” through it all (Matthew 28:20). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, July 4, 2025 - Declaration of Independence “With a Firm Reliance on the Protection of Divine Providence” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be high and lifted up in my heart, in my nation, and throughout the earth (John 12:32). ... “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free” (Galatians 5:1). On this day we call The 4th of July, all our nation celebrates the freedom we have as a nation and as we remember to thank those who risked their lives and all they had by their words in their declaration of independence to establish the United States of America. Those gathered on that day in 1776 were by and large men of faith—faith in You, faith in the justness of their cause, faith in the necessity of their actions. To be the land of the free required the words and actions of the brave. And for that bravery and courage of conviction, they turned to You as the Source of their Support and Overseer of the soul of this new nation they formed. The evidence of their humble reliance upon You alone is found in the last paragraph of their Declaration of Independence dated July 4, 1776: “We, therefore, the Representatives of the United States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States.... And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.” Thank You for the gift of freedom—first and foremost, for the freedom we have and the freedom we can all have in Jesus Christ, as Lord and Savior, as the only One who can truly set us free. “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free” (Galatians 5:1). “He who the Son sets free is free indeed” (John 8:36). “Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom” (2 Corinthians 3:17). And also on this day of remembrance and celebration, I thank You for the freedom we have as nation. As our National Motto of the United States of America still declares, despite every effort to eradicate it from the soul of our nation: “In God We Trust.” Yes, Lord. Just like in the beginning, when our founding fathers declared their “firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence,” their appeal to “the Supreme Judge of the world,” in God we still trust. Morning by Morning, July 3, 2025 - “The One Who Holds Heaven in His Hands Holds Me” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be at the center of my heart and every moment of my day (Colossians 3:3). ... As I wait upon You this morning—seeking to begin my days embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with Your Holy Spirit—these words come to my heart: “The One who holds Heaven in His Hands holds me.” ... To me, this speaks of Your sovereignty. A Scripture from Your written Word comes to mind to confirm what I believe I’m hearing in my heart as Your spoken words: “Fear not, for I am with you;     be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you,     I will uphold you with My Righteous Right Hand” (Isaiah 41:10). Held in Your Righteous Right Hand, fear shall not overwhelm me; worry shall not consume me; questions and doubts shall not stifle me. The One who holds Heaven in His Hands holds me. Thank You for that picture. Thank You for these words. Thank You for Your sovereignty in my life and my world. No matter the struggles or spiritual battles, no matter the challenges to overcome, I’m never alone, never unseen, never left to flounder in my own wisdom or strength, feeling dismayed or distant. For You are with me. For You are my God. For You strengthen me and help me. You uphold me with Your Righteous Right Hand. For the One who holds Heaven in His Hands holds me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Morning by Morning, July 2, 2025 - “Yet Will I Trust Him”

 

Morning by Morning, July 2, 2025 - “Yet Will I Trust Him”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind and Your desires in my heart, as I seek to follow You today. ... “Yet will I trust Him” (Job 13:15). Job didn’t understand all that was going on around him and even within him. There were things around him and within him that needed to be addressed. Ultimately, he would turn to You in repentance, humility, and faith in the climax of his heart-breaking, soul-shaking struggle, declaring “I repent in dust and ashes” (Job 42:6). And You would restore him and re-establish him beyond his comprehension (Job 42:10). But through his struggles against his spiritual foes and even his self-righteous friends, against his overwhelming grief and mind-numbing shock of all he was going through, somehow he kept his eyes on You. Not matter what happened or what was to come, even if it was from Your own hand, he declared in his heart and with the words of his mouth, “Yet will I trust Him.” “And the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning” (Job 42:12). As much as we suffer and endure on our own journeys through this broken and fallen world, where You are at work in us through all we go through, no matter the source, You use it all to work together for good, as You remind us You love us and we are called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28). You use it all to make us more like You (Romans 8:29). It could be said for almost all of us, certainly for me, that we have not suffered and endured as Job. Thank God. But at the same time, we have a witness from the journey of Job to seek a heart like Job. That’s a heart that says, “No matter what comes, no matter the source, or as they say in the South, ‘Come hell or high water,’ ‘Yet will I trust Him.’” Yes, Lord. Give me that heart, I pray. Give me that heart to say, “Yet will I trust Him” no matter what. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today.
