Morning by Morning, February 27, 2025 - “Inheritance” from the River to the Sea   Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of Kings and Lord of Lord, rule and reign in my heart and life today. ...   As I wait upon You and Your leading this morning—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God—the message of our “inheritance” and legacy we have in You that I’ve been asked to speak into at our upcoming Men’s Breakfast on Saturday morning keeps coming to mind. And one of the places Your Word speaks of the principles of our inheritance comes from the leadership of Joshua leading the children of Israel into their inheritance of their Promised Land:   “After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: ‘Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory.   “‘No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. ...’” (Joshua 1:-1-7).   The Promised Land You set before the children of Israel was their inheritance—their spiritual identity as children of God, and their physical destiny to possess the land.   This is where the now-infamous phrase comes from: “From the River to the Sea.” This is the River; this is the Sea. From the Euphrates River to the Mediterranean Sea. Long before terrorists and their misguided, deceived, and confused antisemitic sympathizers ever uttered this chant, it was a declaration of the inheritance of God for the people of God.   As You sent Your people to cross over their Jordan into their Promised Land of their inheritance, You told them to go forward in faith and obedience, with courage and conviction. You called them to be grounded in Your Word to go forth without fear, while fully trusting in You:   “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go’” (v. 8-9).   Let it be so with us. All by the power of Your grace at work within us, going before us and coming alongside us. May we “be strong and of good courage,” grounded in Your Word and moving with Your Spirit, with faith and in obedience, into the fullness of all our inheritance in You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Morning by Morning, February 26, 2025 - “An Inheritance that is Imperishable, Undefiled, and Unfading”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Your name is above every name and above everything I’ll face today in my opportunities to keep looking to You, trusting in You throughout the moments of my day (Philippians 2:9). ...   “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for (us), who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this (we) rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, (we) have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of (us) faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:3-12).   In You, we have “an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading.” It’s already ours; it’s already established; it’s already an anchor to our identity as sons and daughters of God through our Lord Jesus Christ. From the moment we were “born again” You sealed us with this “living hope,” this confident trust, that we belong to You, that we are “heirs according to the Promise” we have in You (Galatians 3:29). This is our identity; this is our destiny--children of God, being fulfilled and fulfilling our destiny in God.   While our inheritance is “in heaven” it’s also right here, right now in our hearts, being formed in us on earth as it is in heaven. “For indeed, the kingdom of God is within (us)” (Luke 17:21). “For the kingdom of God is ... righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17).   Our identity of our inheritance is challenged and tested “by various trials” on a daily basis. We’re “tested by fire.” Our faith, our inheritance, our identity, our destiny, is “tested by fire.”   But by the power of Your grace, as we keep looking to You, trusting in You, even our fiery trials and challenging tests only serve to make us even more secure in our identity as children of God, living into our inheritance and destiny in God. Our tests are what give us a testimony. The challenges we overcome are what make us overcomers. The battles we fight are what make us more than conquerors. All by the power of Your grace at work within us, making us more like You through them all, You are conforming us by Your Spirit into the image of the Son of God (Romans 8:29).   In all of this, the character and nature of Jesus Christ is both formed and revealed in us. In all of this, we may be found faithful, to “be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” The character of Christ being formed and revealed in us—“Christ in (us), the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27).   This is our “inheritance”—to become more like You every day through everything we endure and overcome every day by the power of Your grace at work within us. “Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is” (1 John 3:2).   Lord, have Your way in me today. May I take hold of my inheritance in You today and every day--“an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading.” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, February 25, 2025 - We Need Jesus   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be at the center of my heart and in the middle of every moment of my day (Matthew 28:20). ...   In just the past two days, I was honored to speak and pray for a marriage one day and a memorial the next. Life and death. Joy and grief. And though the Scriptures and the sermons and the prayers were different, the message was the same: We need Jesus.   We need You to be at the center. We need You in the middle. We need You through the highs and the lows, on the mountains and through the valleys, on the most joyful days and on the most sorrowful days, in the good times and the bad times, when it seems like all is well and when it seems like a wilderness of the opposite of everything You’ve promised on the way to our Promised land, when we feel like praising You and especially went we don’t. We need Jesus.   As You said, “I am the Vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).   I need You, Lord Jesus. Apart from You, I can do nothing. And I thank You that I never have to be apart from You, no matter what I’m going through. You’re right here with me. Your Spirit is right here within me. Help me be forever conscious of that, forever trusting in that, forever depending on that.   You see me “always;” You care for me “always;” You are for me “always;” You are with me “always” (Matthew 28:20).   “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord!” (Romans 8:38-39).   Thank You, Jesus. I need You, Jesus. I embrace the Promise and the Truth of Your Word: “My God shall supply all (I) need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, February 24, 2025 - Grieving Loss, but with the Hope of Peace and Joy “Through Jesus”

Morning by Morning, February 24, 2025 - Grieving Loss, but with the Hope of Peace and Joy “Through Jesus”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Let Your Light arise and shine in my heart and through my life today (Isaiah 60:1). ...   Later this morning, I’ll join with friends and family of a loved one who’s passed on from this life to the next, through death and into eternal life. And as I wait for Your leading this morning, this Word comes to mind:   “We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who have died, so that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope” (1 Thessalonians 4:13).   Of course we grieve when a loved one dies. Of course we feel the sorrow and the pain at the loss of life. And the deeper the love, the greater the pain of the grief. They’re not here with us physically anymore. They’re not here to hug and to hold; they’re not here to hold and to hug us. That’s a deep loss that must be grieved, that’s important to grieve. The grieving is a part of the releasing and entrusting to You.   Because we are entrusting our loved one to You is why we do “not grieve as others do who have no hope.” We still grieve, but we grieve with hope. We still grieve, but we grieve with a deep knowledge of the truth that our beloved one is with You. And they’ll still be with you when we see them again, when we both come together again in Your Presence, when we both hug and hold one another again in Your Presence.   As Your Word goes on to declare in the next verses:   “For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have died. For this we declare to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming to the Lord, will by no means precede those who have died. For the Lord Himself, with a cry of command, with the archangel’s call and with the sound of God’s trumpet, will descend from Heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up in the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the air; and so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words” (v. 14-18).   That’s our hope! That’s our joy! That’s our hope and joy we have in Jesus even in the midst of our grief and sorrow. That’s how we can fully grieve; and at the same, we can fully rejoice. It’s “through Jesus” (v. 14). It’s when our loved one is entrusted to Jesus and we are entrusted to Jesus. Being in Jesus and Jesus being in us makes all the difference in the world. It makes all the difference in how we do not grieve as the world grieves, as those who have no hope.   And when we can grieve with this hope, with the One who fulfills our hope, with the One who is our Hope, we can rest assured in this Promise of God’s Word:   “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13).   Thank You, Lord, for this great gift of Your mercy and love we have in You. Thank You for the hope we have, even the peace and joy we have even through our deepest griefs and sorrows, when our loved ones are in You and You are in us. That’s the great gift every one of us can have “through Jesus” -- through Your Presence with us “always” (Matthew 28:20)—not just when we go to heaven when we die, but with us right now in every moment of every day between this day and that day to come. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today.
