Morning by Morning, April 3, 2025 - “Crowning Glory and Ultimate Delight” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind and Your desires in my heart, as I seek to begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with Your Holy Spirit. ... I’m so grateful for the chance to fly out to Florida to see my granddaughters, Alice and Abigail, for these quick few days. And of course, they are on my mind this morning, even as I slip away for these moments of prayer: “Children’s children are the crown of old men, And the glory of children is their father” (Proverbs 17:6). As The Voice version of this Scripture puts it: “Grandchildren are the crowning glory and ultimate delight of old age,     and parents are the pride of their children.” Yes, Lord. What an “ultimate delight” they are! So full of life and joy. As I sit on the floor with Abigail, just turning three months old, her two-year-old big sister, Alice, runs endless circles around us with arms stretched wide playing airplane. What a “crown” of joy I get to wear today! And I’m “old man” enough at my sixty-third year of this journey of life to know not to take these kinds of moments for granted. But wise enough to soak in the moment and embrace a good day on the journey with my children and their children. Even as some current challenges with another of my children never quite leaves my mind and my prayers, right here, right now today, I’m thankful to stay and rest here in this moment in “the crowning glory” and “ultimate delight” You’ve so graciously gifted to me, my Lord. This morning in these moments before I get back to my grandfatherly delights, I’m embracing the blessing You speak upon us and our children and their children and their children: “The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace” (Numbers 6:24-26). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, April 1, 2025 - “Bloom and Flourish!” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be at the center of my heart and in the middle of every moment of my day. ... We’ve been out of the country for twelve days on our ministry trip in central Mexico, just returning home to Texas yesterday. While we were away, the meadows and fields and all along the highways and byways exploded in fabulous color with famous Texas bluebonnets everywhere! Our backyard too. And what comes to my heart his morning are these words: “Bloom and flourish!” ... Yes, Lord. Let this be the season of bloom and flourish! This Word of Your Scripture comes to mind to confirm these words about the farmer who planted seeds and didn’t see anything happen for a season until the season came for what he had planted to bloom and flourish. “And (Jesus) said, ‘The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head. But when the grain ripens, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come’” (Mark 4:26-29) Lord, pour out Your blessing and favor upon all that’s been sown and planted, all that You’ve been growing up in ways we didn’t know and couldn’t see. Maybe some things we thought were just dead and buried and we’d lost hope of ever seeing them again. Maybe some things it seemed like the last season was going to last for ever. And yet, one day we return to see what You have done! Sometimes what seems like what was hidden so long from us suddenly comes alive to us! Suddenly it’s time to bloom and flourish “because the harvest has come!” (v. 29) Thank You for this season of new life, this season to bloom and flourish, this season when the harvest has come! Give us us eyes to see what You’re revealing, to celebrate what You’ve already done and embrace our part in what You’re doing now in this new season of new life today. By the grace of God, it’s time to bloom and flourish! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, March 28, 2025 - “Pray for One Another, that You May Be Healed” Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are with me “always,” and I attune my spirit to Your Presence here in these first moments of my morning (Matthew 28:20). ... “Pray for one another, that you may be healed” (James 5:16). We were so honored to teach practical healing prayer ministry for church leaders and home group leaders on our last night of ministry in the central Mexico city of Toluca last night before moving on to the city of Acambaro today. A brave young leader offered herself as a living example for us to pray for her in the model You’ve given me for inner healing--what I call “healing from in the inside out” to experience and encounter with You for the healing of our heart and emotions and mindsets where we get stuck in the hurts and wounds of our past that can manifest in our present bodies, relationships, and every area of our lives. I led her through what I call “The 3 Rs” of Reveal, Remove, and Replace. By Your Holy Spirit, You led her to the “bad root” of a painful experience that was bearing “bad fruit” in her current physical and emotional struggles. We saw her tears of cleansing and releasing from that experience of her past that was manifesting in pain and struggles today, as You empowered her to “let it go” while You revealed it, removed it, and replaced it with something so much better! Then we saw her tears of joy and heart of praise to thank You for the sense of Your cleansing, Living Waters flowing through her body, followed by the purifying Holy Fire of Your Spirit healing her, freeing her, and filling her up again (Ephesians 5:18). Then we had a beautiful, powerful time the same kind of experience with our host family in the home where we’re staying! What a profound evening of Your healing Presence! Lord, I pray the same for all who join with me in these prayers—that all would experience the healing love of God in Your power to set us free from all that would hold us back from being all You’ve created us to be. Thank for the blessings of the grace of God we can experience in these encounters with You, as we “pray for one another, that (we) may be healed,” recognizing You are with us “always” in our past and present and future--in our traumas and pain, in our struggles or sins, in our praises and joy. “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with (us) all” (2 Corinthians 13:14). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, March 27, 2025 - Look What the Lord Has Done! Good morning, Lord Jesus. As I watch and wait for the leading of Your Holy Spirit, my human spirit comes to attention in the communion of prayer with You—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ... “Then (Elisha) said, ‘About this time next year you shall embrace a son.’ ... The woman conceived, and bore a son when the appointed time had come, of which Elisha had told her” (2 Kings 4:16-17). This morning the thoughts come to mind of a young woman my wife Rocio and I were with, just before leaving Morelia, Mexico on our way to ministry in Toluca—Dham Cruz and her husband Jonathan—who is expected to give birth to her first child today. When we stayed at their home last year on our ministry trip in central Mexico, they asked us to pray for them because the doctors had told Dham she could never have a child. But look what the Lord has done! Praise You, God! We thank You for Your healing heart and miracle power that moves in our lives according to Your will at “the appointed time!” (v. 17) You stir in our hearts to seek You in prayer and make our requests known to You with expectant faith. Only You can work Your miracles; and it’s You who stir in our hearts with faith to pray for things we could never do and only dare to believe. “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26). In this way, You continue to speak to us this eternal truth, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes” (Mark 9:23). You heal in many ways. Sometimes instantaneously and miraculously in a moment. Sometimes in the process of little by little, day by day, as healing unfolds. Sometimes by using doctors, nurses, medicine, and elements of Your creation You’ve placed in the earth to assist us. Sometimes by giving us the grace to persevere until the ultimate healing comes when Your kingdom is fully established on earth as it is in heaven. Sometimes by the healing of the resurrection when we stand forever healed and free in Your Presence. Your part is to answer and move as You will according with Your Word. Our part is to pray and believe with expectant faith, “Your kingdom come. Your will be done. On earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). When we see it come, we celebrate! When we don’t see it come as we have hoped and expected, we keep trusting You and Your goodness and Your love, even though we don’t understand. But we keep praying as You keep leading (Romans 8:26). So however You heal, in Your “appointed time” and in Your appointed way, may we keep our eyes on You, trusting in You, seeking first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, as we trust by faith that all these things we ask of You will be added unto us (Matthew 6:33). And now every day, I’m excited to look and see what You will do! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today.
