Morning by Morning, May 19, 2025 - Pursuing “Quality” not “Quantity” Good morning, Lord Jesus. All is well with my soul when my soul is wholly surrendered to You. ... “How then should we live?” (Ezekiel 33:10) As I wait upon the leading of Your Spirit this morning, the thought comes to mind of the news of our former President who was just diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. I’m led to ponder the frailty of human life and our struggle for significance or legacy, for meaning in the moments of our days, in this short period of time we have on this earth. “For this slight momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison” (2 Corinthians 4:17). So this question comes to mind from the Prophet Ezekiel: “How then should we live?” (Ezekiel 33:10). It’s akin to the question the Apostle Peter asks in contemplation of the uncertainty of our lives from our perspective, even amidst the certainty of Your sovereignty from Your perspective: “What manner of persons ought (we) to be?” (2 Peter 3:11) What comes to my heart is this sense: “It’s not about the quantity of what we do, but about the quality of who we become.” ... Now, the words and face of Mike Chaille, a teacher and friend from early in my ministry, now at home with the Lord, come to mind: “We are not human doings, but human beings.” The emphasis of our lives is not to be about what we do as much as who we are becoming, growing in our understanding of who we are in You and who You are in us, as sons and daughters of God, living out our lives in the constant communion of our personal relationship with You. “Beloved, we are God’s children now; it does not yet appear what we shall be, but we know that when He appears we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is” (1 John 3:2). So in this sort of wake-up call to mortality and call to rightly align my priorities and perspective with Heaven’s heart for my time here on earth, let me grow in the grace of my quality of relationship with You. Let that be my focus. Let that be my legacy. As the Apostle Paul came to realize in the realignment of his life priorities along the way of his spiritual journey with You, “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21). “Indeed I count everything (else) as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord” (Philippians 3:8). Thank You for the grace of the freedom from the tyranny of struggling for “quantity” and the peace You grant in the simple pursuit of “quality” in my relationship with You—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. As King David come to understand, “One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple” (Psalm 27:4). Like Mary, who focused primarily on being with You, as compared to Martha who was primarily busy about doing her tasks, may I choose the best part, the only part that really matters. As You said, “Few things are needed—indeed only one. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:42). By the grace of God, I choose the better part. I choose the priority of “quality” over “quantity” as my legacy and way of life. This then, is how I choose to live—as best as I can and all by Your grace. Now, “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with (us) all” (2 Corinthians 13:14). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, May 15, 2025 - “Intimacy and Authority” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Fill my heart with Your Spirit as I begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ... As I wait on Your leading, I believe these words come from Your Heart to mine, rising up from my spirit into my mind. ... “Intimacy and Authority.” ... Yes, Lord. What are You speaking to me of intimacy and authority? ... I believe I sense You saying in my heart: “The measure of authority I will release through you is directly related to the measure of intimacy you allow with Me.” ... Yes, Lord. You’re reminding now of those similar words You spoke to me then so many years ago when I began the “Morning by Morning” journey of prayer with You. That’s when I began setting apart the first part of my mornings with You in these intimate times in the communion of prayer. And right now, I’m sensing Your calling to deeper times, even more intimate times. You’re bringing some Scriptures to mind to confirm with Your written Word what I believe I’m hearing in my heart by Your spoken word: “My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up” (Psalm 5:3). “Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, For in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, For I lift up my soul to You” (Psalm 143:8). And the Ones You spoke into my spirit over twenty years ago at the beginning of this journey together: “He awakens me morning by morning, He awakens my ear to hear as the learned” (Isaiah 50:4). “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,     His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning;     great is Thy faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul,     ‘therefore I will hope in Him.’ The Lord is good to those who wait for Him,     to the soul that seeks Him” (Lamentations 3:22-25). I do seek You. I do pursue You. Give me a deeper hunger, a deeper thirst, to seek You and pursue You even more intimately still. And I pray that through this deepening intimacy, You may entrust me with increasing authority to be about Your will and Your way with my life, wholly surrendered and completely submitted to You, growing in knowing You more and more personally in our ever-deepening relationship. Lord, let this be the priority of my life, as expressed by giving You the offering of the first moments of my days. Growing “morning by morning” and even, by Your grace, moment by moment. Bring me to the place in my spirit as the Apostle Paul was able to say, “Indeed I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord” (Philippians 3:8). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, May 14, 2025 - “Returned with Joy!”

 

Morning by Morning, May 14, 2025 - “Returned with Joy!” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be at the center of my heart and foundation of my life. ... “Then the seventy returned with joy!” (Luke 10:17) I’m blessed to be returned with joy—back home now in Texas after my ministry journey to Pakistan. In the midst of the war that broke out between Pakistan and India while I was there, I experienced cancellation after cancellation on my flights both within the country and trying to get out of the country due to the governmental closure of the airspace over Pakistan. But God. ... Thank You, Lord God, for making a way where there seemed to be no way. And thank You for continuing to use me in every moment while I was there until the moment I boarded my plane back home to America. So many times, my heart would pound to press back anxiety about all the situation, but You keep giving me Your assurance that my moments where in Your hands. You kept bringing to my spirit this simple command that kept me focused and at peace through every challenge: “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). By the power of Your grace working in me, I kept rejoicing, I kept praying, I kept giving thanks. And You kept giving me more grace, every step of the way, and especially in the moments where I could not see and had no idea where my next step would be. By the grace of God, I was rejoining always as You kept opening doors to minister Your salvation, healing, deliverance, and revival in so many different ways. And now I’m rejoicing always that I’m home again, resting up a little for my next adventure of faith with You. And I’m continuing to pray for the people and the nations of Pakistan and India to know peace and even to know the One who alone can bring true peace as the Prince of Peace, King of Kings, and Lord of Lords (Isaiah 9:6; Revelation 19:16). As I left Pakistan, I was so blessed to hear these final words from the Immigration Agent as he stamped my passport and released me to go home, “Pakistan loves America.” That seemed to me to be an affirmation from You and You love me in this mission You sent me on with Your heart for the people of this nation. For as Your Word declares, You have not left Yourself without a witness in any nation (Acts 14:17) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today.
