Morning by Morning, January 3, 2025 - “You Shall Not Be Afraid of the Terror” (Psalm 91:5). Good morning, Lord Jesus. With all my heart, I pursue Your Presence to begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ... As I look to You and wait for Your leading, I’m also mindful of the attacks of terror that just happened in our land in the cities of New Orleans and Las Vegas. And a phrase from Your Word comes to mind to remind us of Your Presence, even in the face of the darkness and troubles of these days trying to steal our hope and shatter our peace: “You shall not be afraid of the terror...” (Psalm 91:5). These are Words at the heart of a beloved Psalm that the people of God have prayed over our lives and lands, our children and homes, our churches and ministries, our businesses and ventures, our hopes and dreams and all that’s near to our hearts for centuries. And right now I sense the leading of Your Spirit to personalize and pray, to proclaim and decree, these powerful, protective Words of Psalm 91 over my life, my land, and all that’s near to my heart today: “I make my choice to dwell in the secret place of the Most High And abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my Refuge and my Fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.’ “Surely You shall deliver me from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence. You shall cover me with Your feathers, And under Your wings I shall take refuge; Your truth shall be my shield and buckler. I shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. “A thousand may fall at my side, And ten thousand at my right hand; But it shall not come near me. Only with my eyes shall I look, And see the reward of the wicked. “Because I have made the Lord, who is my Refuge, Even the Most High, my dwelling place, No evil shall befall me, Nor shall any plague come near my dwelling; For You shall give Your angels charge over me, To keep me in all my ways. In their hands they shall bear me up, Lest I dash my foot against a stone. I shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent I shall trample underfoot. “Because I have set my love upon You, therefore You will deliver me; You will set me on high, because I have known Your name. I shall call upon You, and You will answer me; You will be with me in trouble; You will deliver me and honor me. With long life You will satisfy me, And show me Your salvation” (Psalm 91:1-16 personalized). I do “set my love upon You,” set my faith and hope in You, trusting in You to protect and shield me and all that’s near to my heart, even redeeming with Your good any evil that would come against us, as our eyes and our hearts are turned to You, even drawing us all closer to You as our only true Refuge and Fortress, our God in whom we trust. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
