“Sculpted from Nothing into Something” - May 13, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, May 13 - “Sculpted from Nothing into Something” Good morning, Lord Jesus. I welcome You here in my heart and every moment of my life -- past, present, and future -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ... “Take care that you do not despise one of these little ones; for, I tell you, in heaven their angels continually see the face of My Father in Heaven” (Matthew 18:10). Yesterday, my wife Rocio and I were so honored to join our dear friends John and Cathy Bennett to dedicate the most beautiful and profoundly moving sculpture of an angel overseeing the markers in the children’s portion of the cemetery in Fredericksburg, Texas. John is a master sculptor and the Holy Spirit gave him the vision and inspiration for this breathtaking sculpture in a vision of the night. In the French language, she was named Ange des Enfants and dedicated, “In the Memory of These and the Sixty Three Million Others. Infants and Unborn, A Loss to Our World -- They Will Be Missed.” The plaque says, “There are not alone and never forgotten.” We entrust these children into Your embrace, Father. And we pray for those who grieve their loss, including those who bore them in their wombs, many not fully understanding the depth and eternal dimensions of their choice. There’s healing, forgiveness, and peace for all who turn to You in humility and faith in Your mercy and love (1 John 1:9). “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. His mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in Him.’ The Lord is good to those who wait for Him to the soul who seeks Him” (Lamentations 3:22-25). Your Spirit still speaks through the heart of every child who ever was, forever sealed in the words of the Word of God: “Oh yes, You shaped me first inside, then out;     You formed me in my mother’s womb. I thank You, High God--You’re breathtaking!     Body and soul, I am marvelously made!     I worship in adoration--what a creation! You know me inside and out,     You know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,     how I was sculpted from nothing into something”  (Psalm 139:13-16 The Message). In Your mercy and love, we’re all “sculpted from nothing into something.” And when we entrust our lives into the eternal care of Your mercy and love through our Lord and Savior, “We are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago” (Ephesians 2:10 NLT).  There’s no sin You won’t forgive. There’s no wound You won’t heal. There’s no life You’ll not love and cherish even though You know every one of us and everything about us “inside and out.” And You’re still at work on Your masterpiece -- carefully, lovingly sculpting us every one “from nothing into something.” You’re the One who’s “breathtaking” in Your unbounding mercy and love. Strategically Positioned - May 12, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, May 12 - Strategically Positioned Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be at the center of all I am and all I do today. ... “So in the lowest parts of the space behind the wall, in open places, I stationed the people according to their families, with their swords, their spears, and their bows. After I looked these things over, I stood up and said to the nobles and the officials and the rest of the people, ‘Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your kin, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.’ When our enemies heard that their plot was known to us, and that God had frustrated it, we all returned to the wall, each to his work. From that day on, half of my servants worked on construction, and half held the spears, shields, bows, and body-armor; and the leaders posted themselves behind the whole house of Judah, who were building the wall. The burden bearers carried their loads in such a way that each labored on the work with one hand and with the other held a weapon. And each of the builders had his sword strapped at his side while he built. The man who sounded the trumpet was beside me. And I said to the nobles, the officials, and the rest of the people, ‘The work is great and widely spread out, and we are separated far from one another on the wall. Rally to us wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet. Our God will fight for us!’” (Nehemiah 4:13-20) O God, You fight for us! You reveal the plots of our enemies to us. You give us divine strategies and spiritual insight. You strategically position us for the work of Your Kingdom and for our defense against the schemes of our enemies. We each have place and a purpose. You do the work and the warfare. And at the same time, You do it through us. You put the tools and the weapons in our hands. Then You put Your Spirit in our hearts to be about our Father’s business, as sons and daughters of our King and faithful disciples of our Lord. “Christ in (us), the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). You position us and prepare us in our spirits to hear “the sound of the trumpet” when it’s time to “rally” for the battles. And You remind us that we have nothing to fear, for our “great and awesome” God will fight for us and give the victory to us. “Thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of Him everywhere!” (2 Corinthians 2:14) In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen. Be encouraged today! The Trumpet Sound - May 11, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, May 11 - The Trumpet Sound Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me hear Your voice and sense the leading of Your Spirit -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ... In my spirit, I’ve been hearing the sound of a trumpet. It’s like an ancient sound of the call to battle. And I remember Your Word and see a picture with eyes of my heart of the priests blowing the silver trumpets to assemble Your people: “The Lord spoke to Moses, saying: Make two silver trumpets; you shall make them of hammered work; and you shall use them for summoning the congregation, and for breaking camp. When both are blown, the whole congregation shall assemble before you at the entrance of the tent of meeting. But if only one is blown, then the leaders, the heads of the tribes of Israel, shall assemble before you. When you blow an alarm, the camps on the east side shall set out; when you blow a second alarm, the camps on the south side shall set out. An alarm is to be blown whenever they are to set out. But when the assembly is to be gathered, you shall blow, but you shall not sound an alarm. The sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets; this shall be a perpetual institution for you throughout your generations. When you go to war in your land against the adversary who oppresses you, you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, so that you may be remembered before the Lord your God and be saved from your enemies. Also on your days of rejoicing, at your appointed festivals, and at the beginnings of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and over your sacrifices of well-being; they shall serve as a reminder on your behalf before the Lord your God: I am the Lord your God” (Numbers 10:1-10). There was a trumpet sound for gathering Your people and for sending them out. There was a trumpet sound for sending them into the next season of their journey and there was a trumpet sound for sending them into the battle at hand. And there was a trumpet sound for celebrating and sacrificing and always remembering that You are the Lord God who is always with Your people every step of the way. As I hear that trumpet sound in my spirit, I’m sensing a call to attention, a call to assemble, a call to prepare for the advance into the battle at hand. And I’m remembering how the Apostle John, the beloved one, heard Your voice like a trumpet sound as You gave him revelation and understanding of his days and the days to come, as he wrote by Your Spirit: “I, John, your brother who share with you in Jesus the persecution and the kingdom and the patient endurance, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. I was in the spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet...” (Revelation 1:9-10). Lord Jesus, let me hear Your voice like a trumpet. Make my spirit more sensitive. Make my discernment more sharp. Make the eyes of my heart and the intuition of my spirit more precise and accurate to see what You’re doing and hear what You’re saying so I can obediently, faithfully advance where You’re leading. Let me hear more clearly and speak more clearly what I hear and only what I hear, when I’m to speak it and only when I’m to speak it. Let me hear Your voice in my heart and recognize Your voice in the hearts of Your people, with increased clarity, accuracy, precision, discernment, and confidence, as we prepare to advance into the battle at hand. “For if the trumpet makes an uncertain sound, who will prepare for battle?” (1 Corinthians 14:8) Yes, Lord. I hear the sound of the trumpet. I hear it in my spirit like the voice of one calling, “Prepare the way of the Lord! Prepare the way of the Lord! Make His paths straight! Let Him make your paths straight and set your hearts right. For now is the time to prepare for the battle at hand. Now is the time to lean in and listen, to pursue His presence so you can be led by His Spirit when He commands you to advance as the army of the Lord!” ... Yes, Lord. “A voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God” (Isaiah 40:3). Let it be so in me. Let it be so in Your body and bride for the battle at hand and the days to come. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! First and Foremost - May 10, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, May 10 - First and Foremost Good morning, Lord Jesus. Let my spirit arise in worship and praise to You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God -- as I begin my day in right alignment: First the spirit. Then the soul. Then the body. ... “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you” (Matthew 6:33). Before I study my calendar and all I’ll do today, I seek You first. Before I go through my correspondence and phone messages, my bills and my blessings, I seek You first. Even before I get out my list of prayers and needs, of battles to fight and souls to win, I seek You first. It’s not that I won’t try to practice the presence of God throughout the moments of my day and with every breath I breathe. But at the same time, I want to give You first place in my heart, first place in my thoughts. I want Your name to be the first thought in my mind and the first word from my mouth, as I deliberately, intentionally, begin my day focused upon You before anything else. Then when the struggles and challenges of the day come, when the pressures of the problems start to build, when “the evil one comes (trying to) snatch away what was sown in (my) heart,” I’m already steadfast in You, taking hold of the One who has taken hold of me (Matthew 13:19). I’m already “rooted and grounded” in You, “filled with all the fullness of God” because I already began my day with You and entrusted my day to You (Ephesians 3:14-19). “Like a tree planted by the waters” I shall not be moved (Jeremiah 17:8). I’m already abiding in You and You’re abiding in me (John 15:4). I’m already “filled with the Spirit” before the world, the flesh, and the devil try to fill my plate with all the tyranny of the urgency and the perceived priority of everything else besides You and Your Kingdom and Your righteousness (Ephesians 5:18). So thank You for the gift of giving my first focus to You. I’m only responding to Your invitation (Matthew 11:28). I’m only giving my first love and attention to the One who first loved me (1 John 4:19). So here I am to worship. Here I am to welcome You here in my heart right now and into every moment of my day -- first and foremost. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! First the Spirit -- Dividing “Soul from Spirit” - May 7, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, May 7 - First the Spirit -- Dividing “Soul from Spirit” Good morning, Lord Jesus. I lift up my heart and open up my spirit to welcome You into every dimension of my being and every area of my life -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ... “Indeed, the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12). Lord, let Your living word cut through any spiritual dullness or hardness of heart, dividing “soul from spirit” to set things right within me as I begin my day in You. Expose my “thoughts and the intentions of (my) heart” and align my thoughts with Your thoughts and my desires with Your desires -- now and throughout the moments of my day. From a Biblical perspective of our human nature, we are “spirit and soul and body” (1 Thessalonians 5:23). According to Your Word these are the three dimensions of our being: “May the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and bodybe kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do this (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24).  First the spirit. Then the soul. Then the body. There's a right alignment of every dimension of our being that affects every dimension of our lives. And through the years of my spiritual journey with You, You’ve been teaching me that understanding each part of our being and how each part is to relate to the others, according to Your created order and perfect plan for the peaceful, joyful fulfillment of our lives, is such a strategic key of the Kingdom of God. Our human spirit should abide in deep communion with Your Holy Spirit. Then our human spirit—infused and led by the Holy Spirit—should direct the mind, will, and emotions of our human soul, which should manifest in the health and well-being of our human bodies. All is well with my soul when all is well with my spirit. All is well with my body when all is well with my soul. But for all to be well, I must learn to allow Your Holy Spirit to correctly align my spirit and soul and body: First the spirit. Then the soul. Then the body. When I’m correctly aligned with my human spirit first, I can live out my daily journey with more spiritual health and growing maturity, being fulfilled with more peace and joy, and walking in the wisdom of God instead of the ways of the world. In right alignment, my human spirit which is receiving my sense of guidance and discernment by abiding in communion with Your Holy Spirit, directs my soul. My soul is my mind, will, and emotions. So my spirit -- in communion with Your Spirit -- should direct my mind and how I think, my will and the choices I make, my emotions and how I sense and feel and experience the world around me. Then then my soul should direct my body.  In right alignment, my body manifests what’s going on in my soul; and my soul manifests what’s going on in my spirit; and my spirit manifests my abiding relationship with Your Holy Spirit. First the spirit. Then then the soul. Then the body. This is what I’ve come to understand as “Spiritual Alignment” or walking out my spiritual journey as a “Spiritual Christian.” But the trouble is that much of the time I can be tempted to live out my daily life in a different order than Your created order. Instead of living in right alignment, the pull of the world, the flesh, and the devil draws me to live out of a wrong alignment. First the soul, instead of first the spirit. First the soul. Then the spirit. Then the body. That’s what I’ve come to understand as “Soulish Alignment” or walking out my spiritual journey as a “Soulish Christian.” In that wrong order, when I’m out of proper alignment, I am more “soulish” than “spiritual.” And all will not be well with my soul.  In the Soulish Alignment, I’m driven more by my own desires in the mind, will, and emotions of my soul rather than humbling myself to be led by Your Holy Spirit directing my human spirit. When I’m in Soulish Alignment, my mind insists on my own thoughts instead of yielding to Your thoughts. My human freewill insists on my own will instead of yielding to Your will. And my emotions insist on driving my actions by reacting from my soul instead of responding by the leading of my spirit being led by Your Holy Spirit. Whether my spirit is the place of authority and in charge, directing my soul, or whether my soul is in the place of authority and in charge, suppressing my spirit, makes all the difference. So come, Holy Spirit, and set things right in me today. As I worship You “in spirit and truth,” You cause my human spirit to arise into the place of communion with Your Holy Spirit (John 4:23). As I wait on You in the silence of surrender, to wait for Your leading in contemplative prayer, You cause my human spirit to ascend to place of authority and in charge, as my soul yields to my spirit, and as my spirit yields to Your Spirit (Isaiah 40:31).  First the spirit. Then the soul. Then the body (1 Thessalonians 5:23). Thank You, Lord, for helping me begin my day with things set right in my soul. Right now, all is well with my soul. And now I pray for Your grace to keep living into the rest of my day in this right order of Spiritual Alignment instead of Soulish Alignment: First the spirit. Then the soul. Then the body. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today!
