“One Spirit with Him” - July 23, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, July 23 - “One Spirit with Him” Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are one with the Father, one with the Holy Spirit; and in the mystery of faith and mercy of Your grace, You also desire to be one with me and with every one of Your disciples of Christ and children of God (John 17:20-23). ... “He who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him” (1 Corinthians 6:17). Let my spirit be one with Your Spirit. Let Your thoughts be one with my mind, Your desires be one in my heart, Your words be one in my mouth. Make me one with You, Lord--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. “Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?” (Amos 3:3) Let my steps agree with Your steps. Let my walk align with Your walk. Let my ways surrender to Your ways. Let my will yield to Your will. Where I’m in sin, convict me and lead me to repentance (1 John 1:9). Where I’m confused or deceived or misunderstanding, speak Your truth to me in Your love for me, for Your words “are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63). When I think less of myself than who I am or more of myself than I should, remind me of my true identity in You and Your true Identity in me. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). “But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12). “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are! Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is” (1 John 3:1-2). In Your mercy and love, make me more like You today. For as You are, so am I to be in my world (1 John 4:17). In Your mercy and love, make me one with You today, one spirit with You today, as I join myself to You in surrender and faith, in humility and trust today--as best as I can and all by Your grace (1 Corinthians 6:17). “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with (us) all” (2 Corinthians 13:14). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.   Be encouraged today. “Shifting Sands. Turning Tides.” - July 22, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, July 22 - “Shifting Sands. Turning Tides.”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be at the center of my heart and in every moment of my day. ...   As I wait for the leading of Your Spirit, what I hear in my heart is “Shifting sands. Turning tides.” ...   And now: “Keep your eyes on Me. Keep steadfast in Me.” ...   And now the sound of an old hymn:   “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus' name.   “Refrain: On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand: all other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking sand.   “When darkness veils His lovely face, I rest on His unchanging grace; in every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil. [Refrain]   “His oath, His covenant, His blood, support me in the whelming flood; when all around my soul gives way, He then is all my hope and stay. [Refrain]   “When He shall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in Him be found: dressed in His righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne. [Refrain]”   And this Scripture in confirmation to all I believe I’m hearing:   “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.    “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall” (Matthew 7:24-27).   In a world that’s shifting and turning, give me grace to keep my eyes on You, Lord. You are my Rock. You are my stability. You are the Author and Finisher of my faith,” so I’m “looking unto (You)” (Hebrews 12:2).   Shake what needs to be shaken. Shift what needs to be shifted. Turn what needs to be turned. As You said, “Shake not only the earth, but also heaven... that the things which cannot be shaken may remain” (Hebrews 12:26-27). “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire” (Hebrews 12:28-29).   Though the nations tremble and the earth is shaken, our eyes are on You, our hearts are turned to You, our faith and hope is steadfast in You. Your Word and Your will shall prevail in the midst of the shifting sands and turning tides.   “God is our Refuge and Strength, A very present Help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah ...   “There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.   “The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved; He uttered His voice, the earth melted. The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah” (Psalm 46:1-7).   Praise You for all Your doing--the things we see and know and the things we don’t see and don’t yet know. Praise You for giving us faith to believe and hope to receive. “Our hope is built on nothing less.” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.   Be encouraged today. “Every Single Moment We Have on Earth is a Gift of God ... Only by the Grace of God” - July 19, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, July 19 - “Every Single Moment We Have on Earth is a Gift of God ... Only by the Grace of God”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. “King of Kings and Lord of Lords,” come rule and reign in my heart, my life, my community, my nation, and throughout the Earth today and every day to come (Revelation 19:16). ...   As I wait for Your leading this morning, I’m reminded of the honor and praise given to You last night from the world-wide platform of a man running for President of the United States of America. So many of the words I heard spoken were filled with honest gratitude and humble awareness of Your Presence and protection in his life. Though my wife jokingly made fun of my manhood, I was moved to tears in many moments of the evening, as I found my heart filled with hope that’s grounded in You.   Words like this:   “Every single moment we have on Earth is a gift from God.”   “I stand before you only because of the grace of Almighty God.”   As Rev. Franklin Graham observed, “President Trump had a near death experience, no question.... When we go through those experiences, it changes us.”   Regardless of politics or political leanings, You’re calling us all to lean on You and not our own understanding or wisdom or protection in these challenging days. As Your Word demands:   “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).   “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning” (James 1:17).   We must make every moment count, with the little time we have, in the opportunities we’ve been granted. We must “Fight the good fight of the faith, lay hold of eternal life, to which (we) were also called....” (1 Timothy 6:12). “Whatever (we) do, (we are to) do all to the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31).   Throughout our land, there’s a stirring of hope that begins with this humility of heart. There’s a stirring of faith that follows a passion to fight for what is right through the power and provision, the wisdom and understanding, the protection and guidance, that only You alone can provide. It’s “only by the grace of God” because as You said long ago, “He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).   Praise God, we are not without You. You are with us. And I’m moved with the hope and faith to believe that You are stretching out Your hand over us as “one nation under God” again. That’s my prayer and that’s my hope. As I also heard last night, “I’m not telling anybody what to do; I’m just telling what I know.” For me, I’m just expressing the faith and hope that I have.   “Now may the God of hope fill (us) with all joy and peace in believing, that (we) may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.   Be encouraged today. Friendship of God through Obedience of God by the Grace of God - July 18, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, July 18 - Friendship of God through Obedience of God by the Grace of God   Good morning, Lord Jesus. I watch and wait for Your leading--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...   “The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear Him, He makes His covenant known to them” (Psalm 25:14).   O Lord, my God, You’re my heavenly Father and Creator, my Lord and Savior, my Advocate and Comforter. And You also desire to be my Friend, just as You desire that from every one of Your children. But in Your Words, Your friendship requires my faithfulness. Your friendship is reserved for those who fear Your name, who yield to Your Word, who humble themselves to honor Your ways. This level of intimacy is reserved for those who willing trust You with all their hearts and deliberately seek to obey You with all their lives. It’s all by Your grace, but it requires our desire and determination (John 15:5).   Some think and even teach that’s just “an Old Testament thing,” only required by “the God of the Old Testament.” Some think grace does not expect obedience. Some think friendship does not require faithfulness. But Your Word teaches differently. As You said directly in the “red letter words” of Your New Testament, “You are My friends if you do what I command you” (John 15:14).   Though You are always my Lord and Savior, I also want You to always be my best Friend. Put Your thoughts in my mind and Your desires in my heart. Let my words and my actions be an expression of my honor, reverence, and respect of You and Your Word and Your ways in my heart. Help me want to hear and obey Your voice and Your will.   “He who has the bride is the Bridegroom. The friend of the Bridegroom, who stands and hears Him, rejoices greatly at the Bridegroom’s voice. For this reason, my joy has been fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:29-30). With all my heart that’s been changed and moved by the power of Your grace at work within me, I want to be a friend of God, a friend of the Bridegroom, a friend of Yours in both love and obedience. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.   Be encouraged today.
