Make Way for the King! - February 8, 2021

Morning by Morning, February 8 - Make Way for the King!

Good morning, Lord Jesus. All that I am and all that I have I entrust all to You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...

"He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, 'to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,' and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord" (Luke 1:17).

Just as John the Baptist came before Your first coming in the "the spirit and power of Elijah" in order to "make ready a people prepared for the Lord," so You're pouring out "the spirit and power of Elijah" in our day to make us ready for Your second coming. For You are the God "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty!" (Revelation 1:8)

Come Holy Spirit. Make our hearts ready to receive our King. Turn the hearts of the fathers to the children. Turn the hearts of the disobedient to the wisdom of the just. Give us eyes to see what You're doing in our day and ears to hear what You're speaking in our day. As You said in Your Word, "Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction" (Malachi 4:5-6 ESV).

Father, we desperately need "the spirit and power of Elijah" to fulfill Your purpose and live out our destiny in these days. We desperately need Your Holy Spirit to move in our hearts with both the spirit of Your character and to move in our lives with the authority of Your power. Not just the "spirit" and not just the "power," but both the "spirit and the power of Elijah" to make ready our hearts for the coming of our King.

I hear in my heart this morning, "Make way for the King! Make way for the King!" ...

Yes, Lord Jesus, King of Glory. By the power of Your grace, I make way for You in my heart and in my world. And I make way for "the spirit and power of Elijah" to move in me and move through me to prepare the way of the Lord in all who would call upon Your name. Come set things right in our relationships -- with You and with one another.

You bring to mind Your written Word of Your Scripture in agreement with Your spoken word to my heart from Psalm 24:

"Lift up your heads, O you gates!
And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of Glory shall come in.
Who is this King of Glory?
The Lord strong and mighty,
The Lord mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, O you gates!
Lift up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of Glory shall come in.
Who is this King of Glory?
The Lord of hosts,
He is the King of Glory!" (Psalm 24:7-10).

Come, King of Glory! We make way for the King! And we make way for the spirit and power of Elijah to be at work in us and at work in our world with the spirit of Your character and the authority of Your power to "make ready a people prepared for the Lord!" In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

The Voice of the Good Shepherd - February 5, 2021

Morning by Morning, February 5 - The Voice of the Good Shepherd

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I speak out Your name and listen for Your voice, for Your sheep hear Your voice and follow You (John 10:3).

"I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. The hired hand, who is not the Shepherd and does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away -- and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. The hired hand runs away because a hired hand does not care for the sheep. I am the Good Shepherd. I know My own and My own know Me, just as the Father knows Me and I know the Father. And I lay down My life for the sheep. I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to My voice. So there will be one flock with one Shepherd" (John 10:11-16).

You're our Good Shepherd. You love us and care for us. You fight for us and You've even laid down Your life for us. You never run away and Your love never runs out. And at the same time, Your heart is also to reach out to the "other sheep that do not belong" so that You can "bring them also." A good shepherd's heart is not only to pastor and nurture and feed, but also to seek and save those who are lost.

Give us Your heart, Lord Jesus. Give us the heart of a good shepherd -- to love one another and look out for one another, but also to look for the ones that do not belong so we can bring them also into the fold of Your mercy and love. Amazingly, even they "will listen to (Your) voice" when they see You seeking them and calling them in truth and in love -- the love that lays down Your life for them too.

Then, together, we will be "one flock" loved and guided by "one Shepherd" -- our Good Shepherd. By the power of Your grace, help us learn to better hear Your voice so we can better express Your voice, speaking in truth and in love, as You seek and save those who are lost (Luke 19:10).

"So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making His appeal through us" (2 Corinthians 5:20). "Whoever speaks must do so as one speaking the very words of God; whoever serves must do so with the strength that God supplies, so that God may be glorified in all things through Jesus Christ. To Him belong the glory and the power forever and ever" (1 Peter 4:11). "Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness on the day of judgment, because as He is, so are we in this world" (1 John 4:17). Make us more like You today, that we can be more like You in this world, Good Shepherd. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, may you draw near to God to hear the voice of our Good Shepherd and faithfully express His voice through your life, speaking the truth in love, to those already near in the fold but also to those who don't yet know they belong, in Jesus name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Holding High "The Staff of God" -- the Cross of Christ - February 4, 2021

Morning by Morning, February 4 - Holding High "The Staff of God" -- the Cross of Christ

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Your name and Your glory be high and lifted up, here in my heart and every moment of my day. ...

"Then Amalek came and fought with Israel at Rephidim. Moses said to Joshua, 'Choose some men for us and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.' So Joshua did as Moses told him, and fought with Amalek, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. Whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed; and whenever he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses' hands grew weary; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; so his hands were steady until the sun set. And Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the sword" (Exodus 17:8-13).

Every story of the battles and the warriors, the strategies and the victories, even the failures and defeats of the Old Covenant speak to us of the spiritual principles of our spiritual battles under the New Covenant. "These things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come" (1 Corinthians 10:11). Today, our battles are spiritual battles, drawing wisdom from the actual battles our forefathers of the faith before us have fought. "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places" (Ephesians 6:12).

Joshua led the army of the Lord into battle against the enemies of the people of God. But he could only prevail in the battle "whenever Moses held up his hand." But Moses did not lift up an empty hand to prevail. In his hand he took hold of "the staff of God." It was not the hand of Moses but the staff of God that released the power of God to prevail. It was God's power that prevailed, but God chose to release His power through the staff in the hand of Moses.

As an example to us, instructing us in our spiritual battles of our day, how we need Your spiritual leaders, like Moses, to be positioned "on the top of the hill with the staff of God in (their) hand." How we need the intercessors and prayer watchmen, like Aaron and Hur, to lift up them up when their hearts and "hands grow weary" as the battle rages on. And how we need the courageous warriors, like Joshua, ready to run to the battle with the battle cry of "No surrender! No retreat!" stirring up like a flaming fire that will not be quenched in their hearts wholly devoted to You and the advancement of Your kingdom.

It's wasn't the power or wisdom or leadership or strategy or even the prayers of Moses or Joshua, of Aaron or Hur that won their battle. And it's won't be our own power, our own wisdom, our own leadership, our own strategy, or even our own prayers that will win the battle of our day. It will be You. And at the same time, it will be You moving through us in our obedience and faithfulness to Your word.  Moses really did have to take his position on the hill, or the battle would not have been won.

Moses really did have to lift up his hands, taking hold and lifting high the staff of God, or the battle would not have been won. Aaron and Hur really did have lift up his weary arms, or the battle would not have been won. And Joshua really did have to keep pressing the battle, even when there were times that it seemed the enemy was prevailing, as his spiritual leader and the intercessors were wavering and weary and letting down their arms, until they found "the stone" to rest upon and undergird their post in the battle from "the top of the hill," or the battle would not have been won.

Teach us Your ways, Lord. Ground us in Your Word and empower us by Your Spirit. Our "staff of God" is the Cross of Christ -- high and lifted up over every battle we face! Give us Your wisdom and Your strategies that we may yet prevail -- all by Your power and all by Your grace. Victory will come and You will prevail, as we each take our post and make our stand, trusting in You alone as the only Source of Victory. As You said long ago, "Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of hosts!" (Zechariah 4:6) In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, may you be take your post and stand your ground, lifting high the "staff of God" - the Cross of Christ, in your heart, in your hand, and across this land, in Jesus name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

"With One Voice" United by the Word and the Spirit - February 3, 2021

Morning by Morning, February 3 - "With One Voice" United by the Word and the Spirit

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Keep my heart clean and my spirit right, as I seek to begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ...

"Whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, so that by steadfastness and by the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. May the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another, in accordance with Christ Jesus, so that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ" (Romans 15:4-6).

Thank You for "the encouragement of (Your) Scriptures (that) we might have hope." Thank You for the unity of Your Spirit that we might "with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." For it's Your Word and Your Spirit that unites us as one -- not the words of men or the spirit of this world, not any person or political party, and certainly not the lowest common denominator of some kind of watered-down version of Your Word or wishy-washy version of Your Spirit. We're united in You alone!

Unite us as one, Lord! Unite us as one with You and with one another in the bond of Your Spirit. "Anyone united to the Lord become one spirit with Him" (1 Corinthians 6:17). "There is one body and one Spirit, just as (we) were called to the one hope of (our) calling, One Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all" (Ephesians 4:4-6).

From every tribe and tongue and nation in our generation and in our time to be alive in this brief sliver of eternity, where You created us and called us and honored us to be Your messengers of Your Word and carriers of the Presence of Your Spirit for such a time as this, may we be one! "Together with one voice" may we glorify You and stand firm for You in the face of everything that's being aligned against You. For the world is not as much aligned against us as it is actually aligned against You and Your Word and Your Spirit. As You said, "Whoever listens to you listens to Me; whoever rejects you rejects Me; and whoever rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me" (Luke 10:16).

So in "steadfastness" and full of "encouragement" may we be found faithful in the challenges of our day, just as those who have gone before us were steadfast in Your encouragement in their day. When we are grounded in Your Word and filled with Your Spirit we are "ambassadors for Christ, since God is making His appeal through us" (2 Corinthians 5:20). Now, by the power of Your grace moving in us, let our hearts be strong, our faith be firm, and our voice be heard! In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

Our God Reigns Over the Kings of the Earth - February 2, 2021

Morning by Morning, February 2 - Our God Reigns Over the Kings of the Earth

Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of the world, King of kings, King of the kingdom of God, be King of my heart and every moment of my day. ...

"Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.

To Him who loves us and freed us from our sins by His blood, and made us to be a kingdom, priests serving His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen!" (Revelation 1:4-6)

Despite what "the kings of the earth" may be planning and doing, You are the ultimate "ruler" over them all. And all will have to give an account to You, as King of kings and Lord of lords. "For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil" (Ecclesiastes 12:14). "For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written, As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give an account of himself to God" (Romans 14:10-12).

Your nature of Love and having created us in Your image for a personal relationship of love with You requires the freedom of will to love You or not, obey You or not, worship You or not, rule what's been entrusted to each of us in our spheres of authority and influence according to Your will and Your ways or not. It's the "or not" that opens the door to darkness in our world. It's the "or not" that makes room for "the thief (who) comes only to steal and kill and destroy" in resistance and in rebellion to the One who "came that (we) may have life and have it abundantly" (John 10:10).

But when You come in the skies one day, and at the same time, wherever You come in the hearts of Your people in our world right now, our God reigns and Your kingdom comes -- here in our hearts and here in our spheres of influence and authority in our world in the power of Your name. We are Your kingdom of "priests" serving our God, serving our King, no matter what or who the kings of the world are serving.

“The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against the Lord and His Anointed, saying,

‘Let us burst their bonds asunder,
and cast their cords from us.’

(But) He who sits in the heavens laughs;
the Lord has them in derision.

Then He will speak to them in His wrath,
and terrify them in His fury, saying,

‘I have set My King on Zion, My holy hill!’” (Psalm 2:2-6)

Speak to the kings of the earth in Your wrath! Terrify them with Your fury! Let the fear of the Lord come upon them to lead them to repentance in submission to Your Word and Your will. And speak to our hearts -- to the hearts of Your people, Your kingdom of priests serving our God in the midst of our world -- Your words of Spirit and Life, that we may stand firm in truth and faith. For our God reigns everywhere our God is exalted as King!

From every tribe and tongue and nation throughout our world, wherever Your remnant is holding fast to the Word of Truth, we exalt You as King -- "He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords!" (1 Timothy 6:15) In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, may you keep exalting our God as King, in your heart and in all that's entrusted to You, holding fast to the Word of Truth in the midst of whatever the kings of the earth seek to do and seek to serve, in Jesus name. Please pray the same for me. Our God reigns! God bless you, my friend!

No! This Far and No More! - February 1, 2021

Morning by Morning, February 1 - No! This Far and No More!

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me begin my day grounded in Your Word and filled with Your Spirit -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...

As I was reading the national news -- which I don't recommend, but heartily commend the Good News instead -- I found myself saying in my spirit, "No. No. No. No. No." It was really more like, "No. No. No! No!! No!!!"

It was like what I hear from my wife, Rocio, sometimes when she's having one of her prophetic spiritual warfare dreams and I wake up to hear her taking a firm stand against an attack of spiritual darkness in her dream. "No. No. No. No. No." One time recently I woke up to see her even shaking her finger in her sleep, as she boldly but calming stood her ground. (She always wins, by the way -- in the mighty name of Jesus!)

Your Word comes to mind, in confirmation of what I'm sensing in my spirit about the kind of news I've been reading:

"Or who shut in the sea with doors
when it burst out from the womb? --
when I made the clouds its garment,
and thick darkness its swaddling band,
and prescribed bounds for it,
    and set bars and doors,
and said, 'Thus far shall you come, and no farther,
and here shall your proud waves be stopped'?" (Job 38:8-11)

Thus far and no farther. This far and no more! ...

To the waves of destruction hammering the shores of our nation right now, my spirit rises up to say, "No. No. No. No. No. No!" To the assault upon the sanctify of life, Biblical marriage, security of gender identity, freedom of our rights of speech and Constitutional protection of our right to live and practice our faith in good conscience, our national sovereignty, our bold stance in support of the nation of Israel and her people from annihilation as we're called to do as a nation by the Word of God, and to all that's under assault in both the unseen realm and the realm that's all too evident to see before our very eyes, my spirit says, "No. No. No. No. No! This far and no more!"

Come, Holy Spirit. Wake us up. Let Your people who are called by Your name be woke in the ways of God, not woke to the ways of the world:

"Sleeper, awake!
    Rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you!" (Ephesians 5:14)

Even now, let hope arise. Let faith stand firm. Let breakthrough burst forth. Let us "take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them" (Ephesians 5:11). "The days are evil" but our God is greater! (Ephesians 5:16)  So let us "be filled with Spirit" (Ephesians 5:18) and filled with the courage to keep taking our stand to stem the tide and speak to these waves, declaring with one voice, "No. No. No. No. No. No! This far and no more!" In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, may you be filled with the hope and faith of the Holy Spirit to rise up in your human spirit to keep taking your stand and keeping saying, "No!" to all that's coming against the Word and will of God in our world in these days, in Jesus name. Please pray the same for me. Our God is greater! God bless you, my friend!
