Morning by Morning, April 19 - Returning and Resting in Relationship with Jesus Good morning, Lord Jesus. I speak Your name over all I’ll face throughout my day, as I listen for Your voice here in my heart and all along the way (John 10:3). ... Waiting on You, this comes to mind this morning: “For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: ‘In returning and rest you shall be saved; In quietness and confidence shall be your strength’” (Isaiah 30:15). Yes, Lord. Give me grace to keep returning and resting in relationship with You. I turn to You. I re-turn to You, again and again and again. It’s not a one-time choice, but a grace-filled, Spirit-led, lifestyle of choices on a life-long journey of faith with You (Hebrews 12:1-2). In turning to You to be my Confidence, to be my Strength, to be my Salvation, I can rest from trying to do any of that myself, in my own wavering confidence, in my own insufficient strength, trying to be my own savior and lord apart from You. As You said, “Apart from Me, you can do nothing” (John 15:5). I need You. I need Your wisdom, Your wisdom from above, rather than the wisdom of the world or the wisdom from my own thoughts apart from “the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16). For “the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere” (James 3:17). I need You to keep transforming my heart and renewing my mind (Romans 12:2), putting Your thoughts in my mind and Your desires in my heart (Philippians 2:5). I need Your leading, Your guidance, Your strength, Your wisdom, as You keep forming the character of Your nature in me (Romans 8:29). In the “quietness” of resting in Your strength, trusting in Your wisdom, I can follow Your voice and be led by Your Spirit. For You said, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them and they follow Me” (John 10:27). And Your Word promises, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God” (Romans 8:14). Speak to me. Lead me. Transform me. Make me more like You today. For as You are, so are we to be in our world -- as we learn to trust You and follow You more every day (1 John 4:17), step by step along the way (1 Peter 2:21). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
