Morning by Morning, May 23, 2025 - The Hope that Does Not Disappoint Good morning, Lord Jesus. First things first, as I look to You and listen for Your leading here in these first moments of my morning. ... “Hope deferred makes the heart sick,     but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life” (Proverbs 13:12). When our hopes are deferred, our hearts grow sick. Delays produce doubts. Uncertainties make for insecurities. These are challenges we face on our daily journey through this broken and fallen world. But they’re also opportunities to shift our perspective and our priorities from the emphasis upon what is temporary to what is eternal, from what is seen to what is unseen. An old hymn comes to mind right now: My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus' blood and righteousness I dare not trust the sweetest frame But wholly lean on Jesus' name   On Christ the solid rock I stand All other ground is sinking sand All other ground is sinking sand   When You are my Hope, my hope is not deferred. When You are my Desire, my desire is fulfilled. When You are my Rock, I stand secure. My Tree of Life is rooted in the One who hung upon the Tree of the Cross that I could live every day in relationship with my God who always loves me, who’s always for me, who’s always with me through every disappointment, through every doubt, through every delay. With my eyes on You, seeing with Your perspective, Your Spirit is at work within me, within any places in my heart that have grown weary or sick from the hopes deferred or delayed, to even use those frustrations to develop Your character in me: “Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through Him we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in our hope of sharing the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us” (Romans 5:1-5). Only You can do that. And You can only do that as I keep lifting up my heart to trust in You, to hope in You, to rest in You and Your work in me by Your Spirit You’ve given me. That’s how hope does not disappoint me, because my hope is not in any circumstances, whether fulfilled or not, my hope is in You. My trust is in You. In Your goodness, in Your love, in Your work to develop Your character in me all along the way. My hope is built on nothing less. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, May 22, 2025 - “In Him We Live and Move and Have Our Being” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Lord of all, Lord of all my heart and life and every moment of my day. ... As I wake up in Illinois this morning in the parsonage of my long-time friends, Pastor Jeff and Lisa Bealmear, for revival meetings in the Methodist church they serve here, I sense hopeful expectation. I sense anticipation of a moving of Your Spirit in our hearts and a sense to flow with however You’ll lead. Yes, Lord. No agenda, but Yours. No program, but Your power, Your love, Your grace to move in the way You will—in my heart and theirs. ... “That they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel after Him and find Him. Yet He is not far from every one of us, for ‘In Him we live and move and have our being...’” (Acts 17:27-28). Stir in our hearts to seek after You. For You are not far from any one of us. Your kingdom is at hand. You are near. And if we draw near to You, You will draw near to us (James 4:8). Awaken within us the hope that we will find You and embrace You and allow You to change us and shape us into all You’ve created us to be. In the power of Your Presence, let there be freedom from disappointments of the past. Let there be forgiveness for sins, healing of hurts, freedom from spiritual oppression, and awakening of calling and sense of purpose in You. Make us more like You by the renewing of our minds and revival of our hearts. Fan into flame the gifts and the calling, the hopes and dreams, of what You’ve put in our hearts for Your plans in our lives, as find our security in our identity in You to fulfill our destiny in You. So in whatever way we’re led to pray, led to wait, led to obey, may our focus be on You, may our pursuit be of You. For in You, and in You alone, “we live and move and have our being.” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, May 21, 2025 - Christ is Lord in My Heart and Life, Not Me   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Lord of my life, Lord of all. ... “In your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be ready to make your defense to anyone who demands from you an account of the hope that is in you” (1 Peter 3:15). In my heart, I sanctify You as Lord. In honor You and reverence You as Lord. I surrender my life and submit my life to Your Lordship, Your leadership, Your rulership, Your authority, Your guidance, Your correction. In humility before You and faith in You, I acknowledge the truth You speak in Your Word that apart from You, I can do nothing (John 15:5). And I praise You that I never have to be apart from You, for You always abide in me and I in you, as I keep my heart open before You and yielded to You (John 15:4). You are with me “always” (Matthew 28:20). And You are the Hope that is in me. But in the intimacy and ever-abiding embrace of this spiritual communion of Your Presence with me and within me, there is only one Lord. You are Lord and I am not. You are in charge, and I am not. You lead and I follow; You speak and I listen; You direct and I obey. You rule and reign in my heart and life, for You are Lord of all (Acts 10:36). You are the “King of Kings and Lord of Lords”—King of my life and Lord of my heart (Revelation 19:16). By the power of Your grace, help me trust You even more, surrender even more. As You said in Your Word, my willing surrender and faithful obedience to You is the true measure of my love for You: “He who has My commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.... If a man loves Me, he will keep My word, and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words” (John 14:21-23). People don’t like to hear that, but it is the Truth. Grace is not freedom from obedience. Grace is the power of God that frees us to trust You, love You, and obey You. That’s much of what it means in Your Word to “sanctify” Christ as “Lord” in our hearts. Thank You for this drawing this morning to deeper surrender, deeper submission, more faithful obedience to You and Your word in my life. Thank You for the power of Your grace to sanctify You as Lord in my every area of my heart and every moment of my life. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, May 20, 2025 - “Increase.”

 

Morning by Morning, May 20, 2025 - “Increase.” Good morning, Lord Jesus. I welcome You here in my heart and every moment of my day. ... As I wait for Your leading, the word “Increase” comes to mind. ... And this Word from the story of the children of Israel who had gone down to Egypt during the famine in their land. While they were there, You multiplied them and increased them: “The descendants of Israel were fruitful and increased greatly; they multiplied and grew exceedingly strong; so that the land was filled with them” (Exodus 1:7). Even in the midst of a culture with very different beliefs, values, and religious faith, You increased them. Even knowing the hardships they would endure because of their faith and identity, You increased them. There would come a day when You would set them free from Egypt and lead them toward their Promised Land. Not all would make it themselves, but their children and their children and their children would, as You made them to become a great nation. One of our pastors at our local, home base church was sharing very encouraging reports of the increase of faith, increase of Bible reading, increase of Christian commitment currently taking place in our nation.  According to a current study of American Bible Society, there’s evidence of a great move of Your Holy Spirit taking place now. Especially among the young people. There’s been a 29% increase in Bible usage among “millennials,” a 19% increase in Bible usage among men. 54% of “Gen Z” adults report that the Bible has “transformed” their lives. Barna Group says one in six adults affirm they read the Bible most days during their week. Now that sounds like “increase!” That sounds like Revival! There’s “increase” not just here at home, but around the world! Sometimes we see it, but most of it is happening often times underground and unreported. On my recent ministry trip to Pakistan, I was amazed at how the Christian faith is growing and increasing even in the face of a very different culture of religion. A leader of that religion in the little village where we minster and have started a school for the poor is even coming to our discipleship training classes we just began. Praise God! I’m remembering the interpretation of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream that spoke of the days to come. Despite all the opposition and persecution, despite all the resistance and dominance of the cultures, religions, and kingdoms of this world, there will come a day when “the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed!” (Daniel 2:44). That kingdom shall increase and fill “the whole earth” (Daniel 2:35). And that kingdom “shall stand forever” (Daniel 2:44). That kingdom, “the kingdom of God,” is not just increasing in the nations. It’s also increasing in us. In all of us who are called by Your name, pursuing Your Presence, surrendering to Your character, as You make us more like You by transforming our lives, You are increasing in us. The kingdom of God is a moving of Your Spirit in our hearts: “For the kingdom of God is ... righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17). “And the kingdom and the dominion     and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven     shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High; their kingdom shall be an everlasting kingdom,     and all dominions shall serve and obey them” (Daniel 7:27) One day, Your Word will be fulfilled throughout all the nations of the earth: “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign for ever and ever!” (Revelation 11:15). Come, Holy Spirit. Come, continue the “increase.” Continue the revival. In our hearts. In our homes. In our nations of this world! In Jesus name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today.
