A Father’s Blessing - June 17, 2022

 

Morning by Morning, June 17 - A Father’s Blessing   Good morning, Lord Jesus. I speak out Your name and listen for Your voice, waiting for the leading of Your Holy Spirit, here in the embrace of my Father’s love and abiding Presence. ...   Here’s what comes to my heart:   “My son, my beloved one, trust in Me. Rest in Me. Know that I see you and hear you and that I am with you. I know every desire in your heart and every burden upon your heart. I am moving in ways you don’t know, working in ways you don’t see. In time, I will make all things work together for good. And in the meantime, I am working in you to trust Me more, to learn to rest in Me more, to align your thoughts more with My thoughts, your desires more with My desires, your ways more with My ways, your character more with My character -- more like Me, a little more every day.” ...   Yes, Lord. Thank You, Father. You are a Good Father. You are a merciful, wonderful Savior. You are a Holy, powerful, ever-present, intimate Spirit.   As I ponder what I believe You are speaking into my spirit, these written Words of Scripture come to my mind to confirm these spoken words I hear in my heart:   “From ages past no one has heard,     no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides You,     who works for those who wait for Him” (Isaiah 64:4).   “He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end” (Ecclesiastes 3:11 NKJV).   “When one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another, for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit” (2 Corinthians 3:16-18).   “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.’ The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs--heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God” (Romans 8:14-19 NKJV).   Yes, Lord -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. Reveal Yourself in me, as You make me more like You each day -- morning by morning, moment by moment, from glory to glory, all by Your grace. I receive and embrace Your blessing today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! Seeing Ourselves with God’s Sight - June 16, 2022

 

Morning by Morning, June 16 - Seeing Ourselves with God’s Sight   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me begin my day grounded in Your Word and filled with Your Spirit. ...   “Now the angel of the Lord came and sat under the oak at Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, as his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites. The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, ‘The Lord is with you, you mighty warrior.’ Gideon answered him, ‘But sir, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His wonderful deeds that our ancestors recounted to us, saying, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has cast us off and given us into the hand of Midian.’ Then the Lord turned to him and said, ‘Go in this might of yours and deliver Israel from the hand of Midian; I hereby commission you.’ He responded, ‘But sir, how can I deliver Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.’ The Lord said to him, ‘But I will be with you, and you shall strike down the Midianites, every one of them’” (Judges 6:11-16).   You saw something in Gideon he didn’t see in himself. And You knew answers to his questions he didn’t know.   What Gideon needed to see and to know was that You knew him better than he knew himself; and that You were with him wherever he was, wherever You would send him, despite whatever questions he had, however weary he had become, however lacking his faith had become.   The key words: “But I will be with you” (v. 16). And You were.   Gideon was able to “Go in this might of (his)” because You empowered him by Your Presence to “Go in this might of (Yours)” (v. 14).   Though he was full of fear and lack of faith at first, even questioning Your promises and purposes, he still chose to trust You and obey You (v. 27). By the power of Your grace, emboldened by Your Presence, Gideon was able to confront the sins of his generations and his nation, the spiritual sickness and idolatry of his culture and his clan (v. 25-32).   It wasn’t until after his first encounter that Gideon realized he had had a “face to face” encounter with the Living God. The “angel of the Lord” was none other than the Presence of the Lord -- a “Christophany” encounter with the pre-incarnate Christ, just has You also appeared in this way to Hagar, Abraham, Jacob, Manoah, and Joshua (Genesis 16:7; 22:15; 32:30; Judges 2:1; 13:13; Joshua 5:14).   “Then Gideon perceived that it was the Angel of the Lord, and Gideon said, ‘Help me, Lord God! For I have seen the Angel of the Lord face to face.’ But the Lord said to him, ‘Peace be to you; do not fear; you shall not die.’ Then Gideon built an altar there to the Lord and called it, ‘The Lord Is Peace’” (v. 22-24).   There’s peace in Your Presence because You are our Peace (Ephesians 2:14). There’s courage and confidence, security and faith in Your Presence because You are the Source of all we need, when we need it, whether we recognize it at first or not. You are the Lord God Almighty, our All Sufficient-God (Genesis 17:1-2). You are our “All in All” (Ephesians 1:23).   You see us in ways we don’t see ourselves and do things through our lives we could never do on our own. In You we find our identity and fulfill our destiny -- all for Your glory and all by Your grace. You give us eyes to see ourselves with God’s sight.   What You did through Gideon as the pre-incarnate Christ, You do through us by Your Holy Spirit, by the “Spirit of Christ” who abides within us (Romans 8:9). As we abide in You and allow You to abide in us, our lives “bear much fruit” (John 15:5). Christ with us, “Christ in (us), the hope of glory” -- Your glory through our lives (Colossians 1:27). “One” with God, in the Mystery of Faith and Mercy of Grace - June 15, 2022

 

Morning by Morning, June 15 - “One” with God, in the Mystery of Faith and Mercy of Grace   Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are One with my Father, One with Holy Spirit, and by the mystery of faith and mercy of grace, You desire to be One within me and every one of Your disciples. ...   “I ask not only on behalf of these but also on behalf of those who believe in Me through their word, that they may all be one. As You, Father, are in Me and I am in You, may they also be in Us, so that the world may believe that You have sent Me. The glory that You have given Me I have given them, so that they may be one, as We are One, I in them and You in Me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that You have sent Me and have loved them even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that those also, whom You have given Me, may be with Me where I am, to see My glory, which You have given Me because You loved Me before the foundation of the world” (John 17:20-24).   As challenging as it is to grasp the trinitarian nature of God -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as One God revealed in three Persons -- it’s even more challenging for me to grasp this great desire, powerfully expressed in passionate prayer from God the Son to God the Father that we would be one in You as well.   That’s only possible by the ministry and presence of God the Holy Spirit, who lives in us and makes us one with You by this mystery of faith and mercy of grace. For our hearts, our earthly bodies, become “a temple of the Holy Spirit within (us)” when we embrace Your grace and invitation to intimacy with You (1 Corinthians 6:19). As You explained to Your first disciples, You continue to express to all who would be Your disciples today:   “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. This is the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. You know Him because He abides with you, and He will be in you.   “I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you. In a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you also will live. On that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you” (John 14:15-20).   This unity of the Spirit calls for a heart of love and obedience, with both reverence and intimacy, for You expressed the conditions in this way, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments” (v. 15). And as we do, all by Your grace moving our hearts and our desires into alignment and agreement with Yours’, we become one with You (v. 20). As Your Word promises: “Anyone united to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him” (1 Corinthians 6:17).   I pray for that heart of love and obedience, with both reverence and intimacy, that in this mystery of faith and mercy of grace, You would make me “completely one” with You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God (John 17:23) -- “united to the Lord (and) one spirit with (You)” (1 Corinthians 6:17). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! Citizens of Heaven - June 14, 2022

 

Morning by Morning, June 14 - Citizens of Heaven   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me begin my day in the fullness of Your Presence -- embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ...   “For our citizenship is in Heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself” (Philippians 3:20-21 NKJV).   We are citizens of Heaven, citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven, where the “King of kings and Lord of lords” rules and reigns in the heavens above and in our hearts within (Revelation 19:16). And the honor of citizenship expects the allegiance of loyalty -- freely given and whole-heartedly given.   I became a citizen of my nation, the United States of America, when I was born here. My wife, who was born a citizen of another nation, became a citizen of the United States when she chose to make her home here. At a very patriotic and America-honoring ceremony that moved her to tears with both humility of heart and thankful pride in her new nation, she declared her Oath of Allegiance:   "I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."   Should our oath of allegiance, our commitment to our citizenship of Heaven, be any less? Do You expect any less of us, but to “bear true faith and allegiance” to You and to the Kingdom of Heaven?   Above all others, we are to “seek first the Kingdom of God and (Your) righteousness, and all these things shall be added to (us)” (Matthew 6:33). You deserve nothing less. And You expect nothing less.   Your invitation is to all -- to all who will freely come and freely give their hearts to You and become citizens of Heaven (John 3:16; 2 Peter 3:9).   As we do, our whole-hearted loyalty belongs to You. “So then, (we) are no longer strangers and aliens, but (we) are fellow citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God” (Ephesians 2:19).   Thank You for the honor of my citizenship of Heaven. May You give me the grace to honor You and Your Kingdom with all my heart every day. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today!
