True Children of God Hear and Obey the Word of God - November 21, 2022

 

Morning by Morning, November 21 - True Children of God Hear and Obey the Word of God   Good morning, Lord Jesus. As I begin my day, I seek to hear Your heart and wait for the leading of Your Spirit. “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God” (Romans 8:14). ...   When You walked this earth as the Son of God to reveal the will and the ways and the words of God the Father to us by the Spirit of God abiding in You, You boldly confronted those who falsely claimed to represent the character and authority of God. They pointed to their traditions and authority and religious heritage. You pointed to God and to the words of God, declaring “Whoever is of God hears the words of God” (John 8:47).   You confronted their hypocrisy and confusion, standing firm in Your convictions, telling them to their face who was the Source of Your authority and exposing who was the source of theirs:   “I speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard from your father.” They answered Him, ‘Abraham is our father.’ Jesus said to them, ‘If you were Abraham's children, you would be doing the works Abraham did, but now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did. You are doing the works your father did.’ They said to Him, ‘We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father -- even God.’ Jesus said to them,  ‘If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of My own accord, but He sent Me. Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear My word. You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. Which one of you convicts Me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me? Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God’” (John 8:38-47).   I want to be one who hears the words of God. I want to be one who believes the Truth of the Word of God.   I want to grow in spiritual discernment and spiritual conviction that empowers me to be courageous to stand up and speak against what’s not true and what’s not of God. I want be bold in the face the false authorities, even cloaked in religious traditions and threatening their religious power, that deny the Truth and refuse obey the Truth, thinking they know better than the One who is “the Way and the Truth and the Life (John 14:6).   Your words “are spirit, they are life” (John 6:63). So let Your words get into my spirit. Let Your words guide my life. Let the Word of God be the standard and plumbline, the guiding principle and the determining factor, for the choices I make and the path that I walk on my journey of life. For You are the Word of God, revealing the will of God for all who would be true children of God, “full of grace and truth” (John 1:1-14). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! “Draw Near” - November 18, 2022

 

Morning by Morning, November 18 - “Draw Near”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. You invite every one of us, You promise every one of us, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to You” (James 4:8). As I begin my day speaking out Your name and listening for the leading of Your Spirit, I embrace Your invitation and believe Your promise. ...   “Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus,  by the new and living way that He opened for us through the curtain, that is, through His flesh, and since we have a great Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:19-23).   By the sacrifice and the power of Your blood, I can “have confidence to enter the holy places” of Your Presence. And only by the sacrifice and the power of Your blood, can I “draw near” to God “with a true heart in full assurance of faith.”   Because You’ve cleansed me, because You’ve washed me, I can draw near and enter into the place of spiritual intimacy with a holy God, despite all the unholy thoughts and desires and actions of my life. Forgive me for ever taking that for granted. Forgive me for every time I’ve held back and for every moment I’ve failed to enter in. Forgive me for breaking Your heart in that way after all You’ve done and sacrificed for me.   I love You, Lord. And I thank You for first loving me. “We love because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19). “God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through Him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God” (Romans 5:1-2). “God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” (Romans 5:5).   Now, not only can we come into Your holy places, You’ve made us to be Your holy places. Not only can we come and embrace Your love through “the access of faith into this grace,” but Your love actually comes to abide in us through the Spirit of Your very Presence, the Holy Spirit of the Living God who “has been given to us.”   This is Your love. This is Your grace. And this morning I take time to embrace Your Presence and Your promise, not holding back, but fully taking hold of all You’ve done and sacrificed for me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! Am I “Raised with Christ” Where “Christ is (My) Life?” - November 17, 2022

 

Morning by Morning, November 17 - Am I “Raised with Christ” Where “Christ is (My) Life?”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind, Your desires in my heart, and Your words in my mouth, as I entrust my life and my day into Your hands. I’m listening now for the leading of Your Spirit. ...   “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory” (Colossians 3:1-4).   Have I been “raised with Christ?” Am I one whose “life is hidden with Christ in God?” Is Christ truly the One “who is (my) life?”  ...   Your Word speaks of those “having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised with Him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised Him from the dead.... (and) made alive together with Him” (Colossians 2:12-13).   That’s what I desire. That’s the stirring in my spirit, the hunger and thirst in my heart that I would be Yours, that my life would be Yours. How do I know? ...   Your Word says it’s “through faith in the powerful working of God” (Colossians 2:12). And how do I know if I have that “faith,” if I’m living that “faith” or just blindly saying I do or just going through the motions of my life as if I do? ...   What comes to me is this, going back to the very first passage of Scripture Your brought to my heart today: “Seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth” (Colossians 3:1-2).   What comes to me is that’s a way to test my heart, to test my faith. What am I seeking first? What’s the focus and the priority of what I’m setting my mind on? Is it You? Is it Your Kingdom, the Kingdom of God and the things that are above? Or is it myself and the ways of man and the kingdoms of this world?   You said, “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness” (Matthew 6:33). And that’s how I know, as I test my heart. Am I truly seeking You and Your Kingdom and Your righteousness? Is that what’s important to me? Is that the goal of my desires and my efforts? Is that the priority of my time and my focus?   What comes to me right now is that the emphasis here is “Seek.” That’s my part -- to “seek.” That’s how I “set (my) mind on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” And then Your part is Your fulfillment of the Promise of Your Word for all who seek You and set their minds on You to pursue You as the priority of their lives:   “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will hear you. You will seek Me and find Me, when you seek Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord” (Jeremiah 29:11-14).   You reward those who seek You. You bless and embrace those who seek You by faith with all their heart, as best as they can and all by Your grace. “Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6).   So, yes. I do believe that by the power of Your grace at work within me, I am seeking You, seeking to set my mind on You and on the things that are above as the priority in my life. I believe You’re helping me keep my priorities straight and my heart right, seeking first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness, as best as I can and all by Your grace.   Therefore, I believe by faith, according to testing of Your Word You’ve set before me today: I have been raised with Christ. My life is hidden with Christ. Christ is my life. Lord, let it be so. Lord, I believe it is so. And if I’m deceived or confused and it’s not so, then convict me of the truth, lead me to repentance, and make it so. Because this is my heart’s desire as I seek You with all my heart, as best as I can and all by Your grace. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! Morning by Morning, November 16 - As the Smoke Clears and the Dust Settles   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me begin my day grounded in Your Word and filled with Your Spirit -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...   I hear in my heart, “As the smoke clears and the dust settles, I am still here. I still remain. I am the Rock that cannot be broken. I am the Strong Tower that cannot fall.” ...   Yes, Lord. The battles we face stir up a storm. As the fires rage and the smoke swirls, it’s hard to see. All the frenzy and activity of the struggles kicks up a lot of dust where it’s easy to lose our bearing. But when all settles down and the air is clear again to see, You are there. You remain. With all You provide -- Your faith, Your hope, Your love -- Your steadfast, unshakeable, unbreakable love for every one of us through everything we go through -- You remain.   “Now faith, hope, and love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love” (1 Corinthians 13:13 NASB).   Through the battles and the struggles, through the fires and the smoke, You are with us. You never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). You stand with us and You withstand through us in the strength of Your love and the persistent power of Your grace.   As King David expressed in his heart of faith and trust as one of the greatest warriors of warriors and worshippers of worshippers declared on the other side of his battles:   “I love You, O Lord, my Strength. The Lord is my Rock and my Fortress and my Deliverer,     my God, my Rock, in whom I take refuge,     my Shield, and the Horn of my Salvation, my Stronghold. I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised,     and I am saved from my enemies. The cords of death encompassed me;     the torrents of destruction assailed me; the cords of Sheol entangled me;     the snares of death confronted me. In my distress I called upon the Lord;     to my God I cried for help. From His temple He heard my voice,     and my cry to Him reached His ears” (Psalm 18:1-6).   You see us in all we go through; and You see us through to the end. Your ever-abiding Presence with us and for us is a great expression of Your love for us. And Your love never fails (1 Corinthians 13:8). When all’s been said and done, when all the smoke clears and all the dust settles, Your love remains (1 Corinthians 13:13). For Your “love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things” (1 Corinthians 13:7).   As one of my very favorite Scriptures declares with authority, power, and hope:   “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;     His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning;     great is Your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23).   In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! Those “Who Know Their God Shall Stand Firm and Take Action” - November 15, 2022

 

Morning by Morning, November 15 - Those “Who Know Their God Shall Stand Firm and Take Action”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Lead me by Your Spirit, as I listen for Your voice here in my heart and through every moment of my day. ...   “He shall seduce with flattery those who violate the covenant, but the people who know their God shall stand firm and take action” (Daniel 11:32).   There’s much we don’t understand, much that’s yet to be revealed about the end times. But some we know from what You have revealed. And one thing we know is that the worldly ruler, by the spirit of the age that will move within him, will “do as he wills. He shall exalt himself and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak astonishing things against the God of gods” (Daniel 11:36).   The same spirit within that ruler that will speak astonishing things against You will also speak flattering things, seducing things to those willing to violate the covenant and turn away from You and the promises and principles of Your covenant. Like the ruler of that age, many will be seduced to do as they will, just as he does as he wills. It will be the same as in the days of chaos and confusion when “there was no king in Israel (when) everyone did what was right in his own eyes,” in their own will apart from Your will, in the mood of times, filled with self-centered, self-exalting, lawlessness and rebellion against the God of the covenant (Judges 21:25).   But even so, at the same time, there is will also be a Spirit who is at work in the hearts and minds of all who humble themselves to call on Your name, who will be loyal and faithful to the end, no matter what. They will “stand firm and take action” (Daniel 11:32). They will be given courage and boldness to stand against the flood of the times. They will be able to “stand firm and take action” because they “know their God” (Daniel 11:32).   Draw us near to You, God. Open our eyes to see You, open our ears to hear You. May we be a faithful people taking a bold stand against the flood of the times, against the flattering and seducing spirit of our times trying to turn us away from the covenant and our covenant-keeping God to embrace the ways of this world and its ruler.   Now is the time we must pray for greater courage. Now is the time we must develop stronger character. Then when the day comes when we’re being forced to bow down and renounce the truth we know in our hearts, to deny the ways of righteousness and be swallowed up in the ways of the world with no distinction between the culture of Your Kingdom and the culture that’s destroying and denying all that’s holy and right and true, we will still “stand firm” and we will still “take action” no matter the cost.   By the power of Your grace at work within us, by the power of Your Spirit moving through us, we will “be strong” and even “carry out great exploits” to exalt Your name and display Your glory in the midst of the darkness of that day (Daniel 11:32 NKJV). We will “make many understand” despite the seducing deception being taught in those days, and already at work in our world (v. 33).   Then even in the face of intimidation and persecution being unleashed by the culture of the world, even in the face of the threats of “sword and flame,” of “captivity and plunder,” when some will “stumble,” we will continue to “stand firm” by the grace of God (v. 33). Even their attacks will be turned around and redeemed by You, as You cause even those things to work together for our good, that we may be further “refined, purified, and made white (to be holy, cleansed, and set apart for You and Your Kingdom), until the time of the end, for it still awaits the appointed time” (v. 35).   Come, Holy Spirit. Be at work within us now -- within the Body and the Bride of Christ, as we come to know our God in deeper intimacy and greater truth. Refine us, purify us, cleanse us. Strengthen us, encourage us, empower us. With Your courage in our hearts, we’ll overcome the onslaught of the culture of this world, standing firm in the culture of Christ to take action for the cause of the Kingdom and the glory of God. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today!
