Morning by Morning, October 27 - The Way of Escape for the Captives of Israel and for All of Us Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me begin my day grounded in Your Word and filled with Your Spirit. ... As I seek to pray and have my heart and thoughts aligned with Yours to begin my day, the lives of those taken captive from Israel and other nations by the terrorists keeps coming to mind. And now one of the Prophecies of Isaiah comes to mind, speaking of a day to come when many of those in Israel who have been captive shall “escape” and see the glory of the Lord revealed in her Messiah--revealed in You: “In that day the Branch of the Lord shall be beautiful and glorious; And the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and appealing For those of Israel who have escaped” (Isaiah 4:2). You are “the Branch of the Lord”: “There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots. The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. His delight is in the fear of the Lord, And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, Nor decide by the hearing of His ears; But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, And decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked. Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins, And faithfulness the belt of His waist” (Isaiah 11:1-5). You are the Rod from the stem of Jesse the father of David, the Branch, the One who perfectly fulfills the seven-fold Spirit of the Lord, the Judge of all the earth, the Savior, the Messiah who has come and the Messiah who will come again--“the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End ... who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty” (Revelation 1:8). And as I think on that day to come, I join in prayer this day today for the rescue and “escape” of all who are help captive in Israel--whether physically held captive and kidnapped by enemies bent on her annihilation and destruction or spiritually held captive from not recognizing their Deliverer and Savior. Even use all that is happening, even the evil that’s come upon her and the tribulation of anything she’s yet to go through, to turn the hearts of Israel to You--using all that was intended for evil, to be used for good (Genesis 50:20; Romans 8:28). For there will come a day when the Prophecy of Your Word will be fulfilled in Romans Chapter 11: “And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: ‘The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins” (Romans 11:26-27). And one day to come, the Prophecy of Zechariah Chapter 12 will be fulfilled for Israel as well: “In that day the Lord will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; the one who is feeble among them in that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, like the Angel of the Lord before them. It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. “And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn” (Zechariah 12:8-10). So between this day and “that day” to come, we pray for the captives to “escape,” we pray for all Israel to be saved, we stand with Israel--with the people of God who desperately need to know their Deliverer and Savior, our Deliverer and Savior--as well as all people every place and race and nation-- Arab, Jew, Gentile, by whatever name or identity--who all need to know their only Deliverer and Savior--the Lord Jesus Christ. “For there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
