Morning by Morning, October 31 - Our Adversary and Our Advocate Good morning, Lord Jesus. You’re my Security, my Rock, and my Refuge. So I seek to begin my day centered and grounded in You. ... “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world” (1 Peter 5:8-9). “My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world” (1 John 2:1). We have an adversary, and we have an Advocate. We have one that seeks to kill and steal and destroy, and we have One who brings us life and life abundantly (John 10:10). We resist one “steadfast in the faith,” and we embrace the One who is always steadfast in faith, who never leaves us nor forsakes us, who’s always with us, who is always faithful (2 Timothy 2:13). In this broken and fallen world, desperately in need of Savior, in need of a sense of Security, seeking to understand the sufferings and senselessness of all that’s going on around us and throughout our world, we need our Advocate. We need someone who will speak to us and speak for us, who will stand for us and empower us to stand for You. Lord Jesus, be my Advocate today. Be my Voice today. Speak to my spirit and speak by Your Spirit. Let me hear and know Your Voice of Truth, and be led by Your Spirit of Truth in all I hear and in all I speak and where I choose to stand. Yours is “the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but (we) know Him, for He dwells with (us) and (is now) in (us)” (John 14:17). This is Your Spirit, “the Spirit of God (who) dwells in (us), “the Spirit of Christ” (Romans 8:9). This is our “Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father (has sent) in (Your) name (to) teach (us) all things and (to) remind (us) of everything (You) have said to (us)” (John 14:26). With our Advocate in our hearts, we can resist and overcome our adversary, steadfast in our faith in You. With our Advocate, speaking the Voice of Truth in our hearts, empowering us with Truth in our spirits, we can overcome by the power of Your grace working in us and moving through us to “Resist the devil (our adversary), and he will flee from (us)! (James 4:7) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
