Morning by Morning, July 25 - “No Holding Back” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Looking to You, I seek to begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with Your Holy Spirit (Hebrews 12:2). ... As I’m waiting, what I’m hearing is “No holding back.” ... And this confirming Word from Your Scripture comes to mind: “Enlarge the place of your tent, And let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; Do not spare; Lengthen your cords, And strengthen your stakes. For you shall expand to the right and to the left, And your descendants will inherit the nations, And make the desolate cities inhabited. “Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; Neither be disgraced, for you will not be put to shame; For you will forget the shame of your youth, ...” (Isaiah 54:2-4). While others, bound up by the world or held back by the past, may be shrinking back, Your Spirit moves in the hearts of Your people to advance, to enlarge, to expand, to stretch out and spread out. You say, “Do not spare” (v. 2). No shrinking back. No holding back. But only advance and increase. Another version this Scripture expresses it this way: “Enlarge your house; build an addition.     Spread out your home, and spare no expense! For you will soon be bursting at the seams.     Your descendants will occupy other nations     and resettle the ruined cities. “Fear not; you will no longer live in shame.     Don’t be afraid; there is no more disgrace for you. You will no longer remember the shame of your youth...” (Isaiah 54:2-4 NLT). Wow, “Spare no expense.” That says to me, “Only the best. Nothing less. Don’t settle for less than who we are in You and who You are in us.” That reminds me of another Word of Your Promises and our identity in You: “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). Also translated in another version: “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago” (NLT). Thank You, Lord, for giving us grace to know who are in You. To “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” that we may expand and increase, free from fears and insecurities, confident in who we are in You and who You are in us (2 Peter 3:18). “We do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those have faith and are saved!” (Hebrews 10:39 NIV). No holding back! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.   Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, July 24 - “The Name of Jesus” Good morning, Lord Jesus. I speak Your name over my life today. ... “Then Peter said, ‘Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.’ And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them--walking, leaping, and praising God!” (Acts 3:6-8) There’s power in Your name, Lord Jesus! There’s healing and life and peace and joy and salvation in Your name, Lord Jesus! Our Father gave You the name above every name when You set aside the glory of heaven to humble Yourself to come into this world as the Son of Man to offer Your perfect life as a sacrifice of love for us all--to save us and heal us and free us to be all You created us to be in restoration with God: “Let this mind be in (us) which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father!” (Philippians 2:5-11) At Your name, I bow my knees. At Your name, I confess with my mouth that You are Lord of my life and Lord of all, to glory of my Father. I confess the truth of the necessity of my salvation and the salvation of all through Your name, through faith and trust in You alone. As Your Word confirms: “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). What a beautiful name! What a powerful name! What a mighty and awesome and glorious name! “All authority has been given to (You) in heaven and on earth” (Matthew 28:18). And as we pray and speak in the authority of Your name, our Father hears and moves that we may receive and see the advancing of Your kingdom on earth as it is in heaven--“that the Father may be glorified in the Son” (John 14:12). From the first days of the pouring out of Your Holy Spirit upon Your church, Your body of Christ in the earth, Your disciples who are called by Your name have proclaimed the power and authority of Your name and the dominion of Your kingdom (Acts 2:22). They “preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ” (Acts 8:12). And they “turned the world upside down” in the power and authority of Your name (Acts 17:6). By the power and authority of Your name, by the moving and working of Your grace in me, that’s what I desire to see--in me and in my world, this day and every day. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.   Be encouraged today. “One Spirit with Him” - July 23, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, July 23 - “One Spirit with Him” Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are one with the Father, one with the Holy Spirit; and in the mystery of faith and mercy of Your grace, You also desire to be one with me and with every one of Your disciples of Christ and children of God (John 17:20-23). ... “He who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him” (1 Corinthians 6:17). Let my spirit be one with Your Spirit. Let Your thoughts be one with my mind, Your desires be one in my heart, Your words be one in my mouth. Make me one with You, Lord--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. “Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?” (Amos 3:3) Let my steps agree with Your steps. Let my walk align with Your walk. Let my ways surrender to Your ways. Let my will yield to Your will. Where I’m in sin, convict me and lead me to repentance (1 John 1:9). Where I’m confused or deceived or misunderstanding, speak Your truth to me in Your love for me, for Your words “are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63). When I think less of myself than who I am or more of myself than I should, remind me of my true identity in You and Your true Identity in me. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). “But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12). “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are! Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is” (1 John 3:1-2). In Your mercy and love, make me more like You today. For as You are, so am I to be in my world (1 John 4:17). In Your mercy and love, make me one with You today, one spirit with You today, as I join myself to You in surrender and faith, in humility and trust today--as best as I can and all by Your grace (1 Corinthians 6:17). “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with (us) all” (2 Corinthians 13:14). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.   Be encouraged today. “Shifting Sands. Turning Tides.” - July 22, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, July 22 - “Shifting Sands. Turning Tides.”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be at the center of my heart and in every moment of my day. ...   As I wait for the leading of Your Spirit, what I hear in my heart is “Shifting sands. Turning tides.” ...   And now: “Keep your eyes on Me. Keep steadfast in Me.” ...   And now the sound of an old hymn:   “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus' name.   “Refrain: On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand: all other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking sand.   “When darkness veils His lovely face, I rest on His unchanging grace; in every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil. [Refrain]   “His oath, His covenant, His blood, support me in the whelming flood; when all around my soul gives way, He then is all my hope and stay. [Refrain]   “When He shall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in Him be found: dressed in His righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne. [Refrain]”   And this Scripture in confirmation to all I believe I’m hearing:   “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.    “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall” (Matthew 7:24-27).   In a world that’s shifting and turning, give me grace to keep my eyes on You, Lord. You are my Rock. You are my stability. You are the Author and Finisher of my faith,” so I’m “looking unto (You)” (Hebrews 12:2).   Shake what needs to be shaken. Shift what needs to be shifted. Turn what needs to be turned. As You said, “Shake not only the earth, but also heaven... that the things which cannot be shaken may remain” (Hebrews 12:26-27). “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire” (Hebrews 12:28-29).   Though the nations tremble and the earth is shaken, our eyes are on You, our hearts are turned to You, our faith and hope is steadfast in You. Your Word and Your will shall prevail in the midst of the shifting sands and turning tides.   “God is our Refuge and Strength, A very present Help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah ...   “There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.   “The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved; He uttered His voice, the earth melted. The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah” (Psalm 46:1-7).   Praise You for all Your doing--the things we see and know and the things we don’t see and don’t yet know. Praise You for giving us faith to believe and hope to receive. “Our hope is built on nothing less.” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.   Be encouraged today.
