Morning by Morning, November 4, 2025 – “We Know that We Know Him”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of Kings and Lord of Lords, come rule and reign in my heart right here, right now and throughout every moment of my day. ...   “My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world. “Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, ‘I know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked” (1 John 2:1-6).   I want to be counted among those who can say, “We know that we know Him.” That I can say, “I know that I know Him.” That I can say to You, “I know that I know You.”   Your Word gives us the test to discern the truth: “Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments” (v. 3). And Your Word gives us a warning not to “candy-coat” the truth, not to “dumb-down” the requirement of authentic discipleship, not to “rationalize” away Your standard of an honest relationship, not to “excuse” any lack of spiritual intimacy with the One who is both our Savior from hell but also our Lord of our lives, and not to “exchange” head knowledge of doctrinal truth for a “heart encounter” of abiding in You and allowing You to abide in us every moment of every day on our spiritual journey with You.   Show me Your commandments. Write them on my heart. Seal them in my soul. Empower me by Your grace to live them out in my life with the choices I make, the words I speak, the actions I take. For “He who says, ‘I know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him” (v. 4). “He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked” (v. 6).   Yes, it’s all about love. Because “God is Love” (1 John 4:16). You are Love; and knowing You as I am known by You is an expression and experience and encounter with Love. But according to Your Word, this relationship of love is also a relationship of obedience. This obedience to You begins and ends with love, with love that’s expressed in obedience. “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments” (1 John 5:3).   This kind of love, this depth of true relationship with the One who is Love, requires more than a feeling, more than an emotion, more than an affirmation of my mind and correct doctrines of truth in my head. This kind of love requires me to keep Your Word and obey Your Commandments by the power of Your grace. “Whoever keeps His Word, truly the love of God is perfected in him” (1 John 2:5).   As You said long ago, You continue to say today to all who have ears to hear: “If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15).   Yes, it’s all by Your grace. Apart from You, we can do nothing (John 15:5). But when we love You and allow You to love us, we are not apart from You. You abide right here within us (John 15:4). And Your grace is sufficient to empower us to desire to love You and obey You, giving us the right desire and all the power to “walk just as (You) walked” (1 John 2:6) that we can say in truth, “We know that we know Him,”  “We know that we know You” (1 John 2:3). Morning by Morning, November 3, 2025 – “My Sheep Hear My Voice.”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. My Lord, my Savior, my Good Shepherd who voice I seek to hear and follow and obey. ...   “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me” (John 10:27).   “My sheep.” I belong to You. I am Yours and You are mine (Song of Solomon 6:3). I’m “bought with a price,” by the blood of the Lamb (1 Corinthians 6:20), so that my heart is Your home and my body is the temple of Your Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19).   “Hear My voice.” I’m created for deeply intimate, personal fellowship with You. Not just to know about You in my head, but also to hear You in my heart. Not just to get with You every now and then, but to live so near to You in every moment of every day that I can recognize Your voice. Then I can distinguish Your voice from the voice of any other, including my own voice from my own thoughts, and including the voices coming from the enemy of my soul. Knowing You and hearing Your voice, “(I) will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him” (John 10:5).   “I know them.” You know all about me. And yet You love me. You know every hair on my head, every desire of my heart, every need in my life (Luke 12:7). You’ve known me from all eternity — from eternity past to eternity future and right here, right now in the eternity of now. “You formed my inward parts. You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made” by You (Psalm 139:13-14).   “They follow Me.” The test of knowing that I know You and You know me, that I truly hear Your voice as one of Your sheep, is that I follow You. Even in as much grace as we have, You said our obedience to You is the measure of our love for You. “If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15). Our obedience flows out of our identity in You as sons and daughters of God our Father and as disciples of Jesus Christ our Lord by the power of the Holy Spirit of the Living God living and moving in our hearts. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10).  You’ve left us “an example, that (we) should follow “Your” steps” (1 Peter 2:21). “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (Romans 8:14).   So I begin my day positioning myself here in this place of communion in prayer, seeking Your face, listening for Your voice, in the assurance of knowing You and knowing You know me. As I rise, give me the grace to keep in constant communion with You — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God — obeying what I hear and following where You lead. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Morning by Morning, October 31, 2025 – “Just as We are One”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. You’re one with the Father, one with the Holy Spirit, and in the mystery of faith and the Promise of Your Word, You also desire to be one with me and all who entrust their hearts to You. ...   As You prayed for us during the days of Your flesh in Your nature as Son of Man, just before You willingly chose to suffer and die for us on the Cross:   “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me” (John 17:20-23).   To be one is to have no separation, no division, no barriers or blockages, no hindrances or hesitations. To be one is to be aligned in unity of heart and mind and soul and spirit.   That’s hard to comprehend how that could be Your heart and will for us, but that is Your Word for us, Your Promise for us. So Your Spirit is at work within us, from the moment we’re saved and throughout eternity, making us one with You — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God.   “He who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him” (1 Corinthians 6:17).   As one spirit with You, as one with You, nothing is between us, nothing separates us, nothing can hinder us or hold us back from the unity You have for us. Unity with You, oneness with You, is Your will according to Your Word — no matter how hard it is for us to comprehend the extraordinary vastness of Your mercy and incomprehensible nature of Your love.   It’s only possible because of Your sacrifice of love for us that has cleansed us and forgiven us and removed all that would separate us through the Blood of Jesus (1 John 1:9). “In (You) we have redemption through (Your) Blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to riches of (Your) grace” (Ephesians 1:7). “For it pleased the Father that in (Jesus) all the fullness should dwell, and by (Jesus) to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through blood of His Cross (Colossians 1:19-30).   With the Apostle Paul, as he was led by Your Holy Spirit to write, I choose to believe this almost unimaginable Truth, persuaded and convinced of the Promise of Your Word:   “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: ‘For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.’ “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord!” (Romans 8:35-39) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.   Be encouraged today.
