Alive in Christ in the Heavenly Realm and in the Earthly Realm - October 26, 2023

 

Morning by Morning, October 26 - Alive in Christ in the Heavenly Realm and in the Earthly Realm   Good morning, Lord Jesus. I’m alive in Christ, lifted up with You in the heavenly places with You in my spirit -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...   Even as I pray out these words to direct my attention to You in these first moments of my morning, Your Word comes to my mind and rises up in my heart from Ephesians Chapter 2:   “And (us) He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which (we) once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.   “But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace (we) have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace (we) have been saved through faith, and that not of (ourselves); it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:1-10).   By the mercy of Your grace and the mystery of faith, I’m alive in You, lifted up in You, abiding with You in the heavenly places of Your Presence. In that realm of the heavenly places, I am free and forgiven, filled with peace and joy, at home in Your heart and embraced in Your love.   Lord, let it be so on earth as it is in heaven--here in my heart and mind and will and emotions and body and in every moment of my day for every day of my life--as it already is in heaven. Teach how to live from there--there where I am already in that dimension of my life, that realm of my present existence, where Your Word says I’m already “raised up” to “sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” with You (v. 6).   “There” is not so much a place, as a realm and dimension of existence. And that realm is just as real as this earthly realm. Open the eyes of my heart to see more, hear more, experience more of that realm “in the heavenly places” where my heart is aligned with Your heart, my thoughts are aligned with Your thoughts, my will is aligned with Your will, my words are aligned with Your words (Ephesians 1:18).   I’m “there” already in my spirit. Keep me “there” with you now “in the heavenly places”, even as I go about the moments of my day “here” in the earthly places of this realm that’s also just as real as that realm. Give me grace to understand and embrace that I live in both realms at the same time and You are with me in Your abiding Presence all the time (Matthew 28:20; Romans 8:9). I’m alive in You and You’re alive in me--“Christ in (me), the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Pursuing the Enemy for the Return of the Captives - October 25, 2023

 

Morning by Morning, October 25 - Pursuing the Enemy for the Return of the Captives   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Grounded in Your Word, filled with Your Spirit, I begin my day centered and focused on You. ...   “Now when David and his men came to Ziklag on the third day, the Amalekites had made a raid on the Negeb and on Ziklag. They had attacked Ziklag, burned it down, and taken captive the women and all who were in it, both small and great; they killed none of them, but carried them off, and went their way. When David and his men came to the city, they found it burned down, and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive. Then David and the people who were with him raised their voices and wept, until they had no more strength to weep. David’s two wives also had been taken captive, Ahinoam of Jezreel, and Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel. David was in great danger; for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in spirit for their sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God” (1 Samuel 30:1-6).   On a day of shock and terror, on a day of national tragedy for all who were part of the heart of David, they found their city devastated by destruction and “their wives and sons and daughters taken captive.” At first all they could do, as they were dazed by trauma, was raise their voices in aguish and grief “until they had no more strength to weep.”   Then, in great danger of betrayal and the twisted irony of blame-shifting, it was David himself who was nearly stoned to death, as everyone’s rage and pain was turned against him instead of their enemies. Even though it was David’s enemies, the enemies of Israel who hated him and his people, who invaded their homes and burned their city and carried away their families kidnapped as captives, everyone turned on David. Everyone began to blame the victim instead of those who came to steal and kill and destroy.   Spirits never die; and those same spirits are still at work in our world stealing and killing and destroying and trying to turn the hearts of the world against the very ones who have been horrifically, unimaginably terrorized by hatred.   But “David strengthened himself in the Lord his God” (v.6).   David turned to You. In the humility of desperate dependence upon You alone, he “inquired of the Lord” (v. 8). He waited on You for Your answer, Your wisdom, Your guidance. He didn’t have any Answer but You, no Hope but You.   And then he obeyed everything he heard, as best as he could and all by Your grace. You called him to get up from his grief and be girded up with faith to “pursue” his enemies until he had taken back all that was stolen from him and his people (v. 9).   Some were too weary to go with him; some refused to stand with him. But he gathered those who were of one heart with his to trust God and obey, and “went on with the pursuit” (v. 10).   By the power and the grace of God, David found his enemies, still gloating over their plunder (v. 16). And with unrelenting faith in the word of the Lord and the power of Your might, he and his army engaged their enemies in the fierce courage that only You can supply, until “not one of them escaped” (v. 17). He took back all that was taken. “Nothing was missing, whether small or great, sons or daughters, spoil or anything that had been taken. David brought back everything” (v. 19).   Your Word says that all that happened to those under the Old Covenant in former times and all that happened in the battles and struggles against their enemies of flesh and blood speak to us of the spiritual principles in our battles against our spiritual enemies today. Their struggles and battles, their failures and successes, “serve as an example, and they were written down to instruct us, on whom the ends of the ages have come” (1 Corinthians 10:11). “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).   So come, Holy Spirit. Give the sons and daughters of David Your wisdom, Your guidance today. Let every kidnapped captive be brought home. Let all that was taken be restored. Let none of the perpetrators of this terror escape.   For the human beings of flesh and blood involved, may every heart be convicted to turn to You in repentance and faith for salvation in Your name -- the name of above all names (Philippians 2:9), the only name under heaven by which men and women may be saved (Acts 4:12).   And like their father David before them, may the leaders and people of Israel turn to You to “strengthen (themselves) in the Lord.” May we all turn to You, to be strengthened in You, restored in You, with nothing missing and nothing broken, through the peace of our salvation in You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. The Choice to “Let” or “Let Not” - October 24, 2023

 

Morning by Morning, October 24 - The Choice to “Let” or “Let Not”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ...   As I listen for Your leading, I hear this in my heart: “Let not your heart be troubled.” ...   And of course, Your Word from Scripture comes to mind immediately:   “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me” (John 14:1).   There’s much going on in our world right now that can trouble our hearts. The war in Israel and Gaza that could easily spill over into a regional war or the next world war. In our own land, we live on the Southern Border where many are concerned many warring terrorists have already come through and are just waiting in sleeper cells to attack us from within our own borders. Not to mention the “everyday” struggles and battles and challenges of life in our broken and fallen world in desperate need of her Savior, Healer, Deliverer, and Redeemer, as we join in prayer for the Revival and Awakening through a mighty move of Your Holy Spirit that seems like our last and best Hope.   So as I mediate on these words You’ve brought to mind this morning, the first thing that comes to me is the word “Let,” as in “Let not your heart be troubled.”   “Let” is a choice. “Let” is an action. “Let” is also a command from Your Voice to our hearts to make a choice.   We can either choose to “Let” our hearts be overwhelmed and overcome by the troubles of this world and the immediate troubles of our lives. Or we can choose to “Let not” our hearts be overwhelmed and overcome. So how do we make the right choice? How do we “Let not” instead of “Let”?   By embracing the invitation of Your very next Words--“Believe in God; believe also in Me.”   Believing You is trusting You. It’s not trusting that we won’t go through challenging, even gut-wrenching, maybe even horrific or incomprehensible struggles through these deeply troubling times. But it does mean we can turn our eyes toward You, open our hearts up to You, put our faith and trust in the One who promises to be with us through whatever we endure as we overcome.   Just as You said, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). “And this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith” and trust in You (1 John 5:4).   You set before us a choice: To “Let” or “Let not.”   Apart from You, I can do nothing (John 15:5). But I praise You and thank You that I never have to be apart from You, for You are with me always (Matthew 28:20). You are always right here within me by Your Spirit who always abides within me, guiding me, comforting me, helping me “Let not” my heart be troubled no matter what’s troubling the world around me (Romans 8:9; Colossians 1:27).   So by the power of Your grace working in me, I choose to “Let not” my heart be troubled today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. The Days of the Bible Are Becoming the Days of Our Times - October 23, 2023

 

Morning by Morning, October 23 - The Days of the Bible Are Becoming the Days of Our Times   Good morning, Lord Jesus. I entrust my life into Your hands today -- all the thoughts I think, all the desires I feel, all the words I speak. ...   The days of the Bible are becoming the days of our times, as Your Prophetic Words are being fulfilled before our eyes. Bible days are becoming our days almost every day. So let Your Word keep us grounded. And let Your Spirit keep us praying.   Even nations of people mentioned long ago are now coming into position in fulfillment -- whether in whole or in part -- of Your Ancient Words that are ever true. Give us eyes to see, ears to hear, and discernment to pray. And as we see nations and people mentioned in Your Word aligning for the wars and battles of our day, let us always remember that our true enemy is never the human beings involved, but the spiritual forces of wickedness behind them, which motivate them.   “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).   As I listen and pray, these ominous, foreboding Words from Your Scripture come to mind today from Psalm 83. And even as I write it and pray it and say it, would You move in Your mercy for the lives of all people, even as You move in Your power against the spiritual forces of wickedness behind any of these people and nations:   “Do not keep silent, O God! Do not hold Your peace, And do not be still, O God! 2 For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; And those who hate You have lifted up their head. 3 They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, And consulted together against Your sheltered ones. 4 They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.”   “5 For they have consulted together with one consent; They form a confederacy against You: 6 The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab and the Hagrites; 7 Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; 8 Assyria also has joined with them; They have helped the children of Lot. Selah   “9 Deal with them as with Midian, As with Sisera, As with Jabin at the Brook Kishon, 10 Who perished at En Dor, Who became as refuse on the earth. 11 Make their nobles like Oreb and like Zeeb, Yes, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, 12 Who said, “Let us take for ourselves The pastures of God for a possession.”   13 O my God, make them like the whirling dust, Like the chaff before the wind! 14 As the fire burns the woods, And as the flame sets the mountains on fire, 15 So pursue them with Your tempest, And frighten them with Your storm. 16 Fill their faces with shame, That they may seek Your name, O Lord. 17 Let them be confounded and dismayed forever; Yes, let them be put to shame and perish, 18 That they may know that You, whose name alone is the Lord, Are the Most High over all the earth. (Psalm 83:1-18).   Turn all this into a time when all turn to You -- “That they may seek Your name, O Lord” (v. 16). “That they may know that You, whose name alone is the Lord, are the Most High over all the earth” (v. 18).   For the Truth is, for Your Heart is “longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:3-4). Lord, let it be so. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today.
