Morning by Morning, April 23, 2025 - Sent in the Power of the Holy Spirit and the Name of Jesus   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Fill me with Your Spirit and lead me in Your way. ... “When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ After He said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. “Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, so I send you.’ When He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them. ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained’” (John 20:19-23). Just as our Father raised You from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit, that same Spirit now lives in us, now raises us into newness of life in You (Romans 8:11). And just as the Father sent You, so You send us. Just as the Father sent You to proclaim the Good News of the Gospel of the Kingdom of God in the settings and opportunities You set before each of us, You continue to demonstrate its power through us as You send us—all in the authority and the power of Your Spirit. As You are, so are we to be in this world (1 John 4:17). We are the “body of Christ” (1 Corinthians 12:27). We are filled with the “Spirit of Christ” (Romans 8:9). And now we continue the “ministry of Christ” through our lives for Your glory in Your name (Romans 16:13; Matthew 28:18-20). All who truly believe in You will continue to honor and obey You by doing the works that You did in the same power of the Holy Spirit You had when You walked this earth. “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father” (John 14:12). “And (Jesus) said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover’” (Mark 16:15-18). It's not our power, our authority, our goodness or righteousness, but Your power, Your authority released through us, as we’re obedient and faithful to You to go where wherever and however You send us. “As the Father has sent (You), so (You) send (us)” (John 20:21). Though You were crucified, dead and buried, raised from the death, and ascended into heaven, You are now with us always (Matthew 28:20). Your Spirit—“the Spirit of Jesus Christ”—is with us and within us (Philippians 1:19). Your Spirit empowers us and sends us today and every day, as You confirm Your Word and Your will through us in Your name and for Your glory. Here I am, Lord. Send me today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, April 22, 2025 - Our Personal Journey on our Spiritual Walk to Emmaus with Jesus Good morning, Lord Jesus. Open the eyes of my heart to see You—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God—as I look and listen for Your leading today. ... “Now on that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, and talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and went with them, but their eyes were kept from recognizing Him. “And He said to them, ‘What are you discussing with each other while you walk along?’ They stood still, looking sad. Then one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answered Him, ‘Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem who does not know the things that have taken place there in these days?’ He asked them, ‘What things?’ They replied, ‘The things about Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how our chief priests and leaders handed Him over to be condemned to death and crucified Him. “But we had hoped that He was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things took place. Moreover, some women of our group astounded us. They were at the tomb early this morning, and when they did not find His body there, they came back and told us that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who said that He was alive. Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Him. “Then He said to them, ‘Oh, how foolish you are and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have declared! Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and then enter into His glory?’ Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, He interpreted to them the things about himself in all the Scriptures. “As they came near the village to which they were going, He walked ahead as if He were going on. But they urged Him strongly, saying, ‘Stay with us, because it is almost evening and the day is now nearly over.’ So He went in to stay with them. When He was at the table with them, He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him, and He vanished from their sight. They said to each other, ‘Were not our hearts burning within us while He was talking to us on the road, while He was opening the Scriptures to us?” (Luke 24:13-32). The two disciples on their walk to Emmaus, after all the events of the Cross, had known You and loved You. But in their grief and sorrow and disappointment, they couldn’t see You. They “had hoped” that You were the Messiah, but now they thought all their hopes and dreams were shattered (v. 21). They had even heard stories of Your resurrection, but they were still “slow of heart to believe” (v. 22-25). Even when You came alongside them, they couldn’t sense that it was You, they couldn’t recognize Your voice, even though they had had such a personal relationship with You. That may be a picture of many of us at times along our journey of faith. We know You, we have a real and personal relationship with You, we know the stories of Your resurrection; but at the same time, down deep inside, we still find ourselves “slow of heart to believe.” When our dreams and hopes are shattered, when we find our prayers unanswered, when we find ourselves in those times of grief and sorrow and disappointment, we find it hard to see You and hear You and even recognize and remember that You are with us—that You’re with us “always,” just like You promised (Matthew 28:24), that Your sheep “hear (Your) voice,” just like You said (John 10:3). But even in those times—maybe even especially in those times—You come near and go with us (Luke 24:15). You come in and dine with us in the communion of our hearts if we’ll invite You in to come abide with us, as we keep choosing to abide in You (v. 29). Just as You did with those two discouraged disciples who desperately needed an encounter with You, You’re always ready to come in and commune with all who would “urge (You) strongly” to come and stay (v. 29). In the breaking of the bread with them, “their eyes were opened, and they recognized (You)” (v. 30-31). In the breaking of the Bread of the Word of God with them, “(You) interpreted to them the things about (Yourself) in all the Scriptures” (v. 27). Then their hearts burned within them with fresh fire and fresh faith, in renewed hope and awakening excitement, from their personal encounter in Your Presence with Your Word (v. 32). Thank You for walking with me on my journey with You, Lord Jesus. Thank You for opening up the Word of God to me, for revealing Yourself in Your Scriptures to me, “beginning with Moses and all the prophets” (v. 27). Thank You for coming to abide within me, for opening the eyes of my heart to see You, for making me more and more sensitive in my spirit to hear You voice in my heart. Thank You for the grace and faith to believe in my heart from my personal encounters in Your Presence with Your Word and by Your Spirit that “the Lord has risen indeed!” (v. 34) And thank You that every day You want to arise in me! Thank You that all this is part of the resurrection lifestyle You have for me and all who seek to embrace You and journey with You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, April 21, 2025 - Resurrection Lifestyle — “He is Risen” in Us and through Us Good morning, Lord Jesus. Let Your resurrection life, Your resurrection power arise in me and all of Your disciples this day and every day. ... “He is not here; for He is risen, as He said” (Matthew 28:6). Yesterday morning, on Resurrection Sunday, I got up very early in the morning, like when “Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark” on that first Resurrection Sunday long ago (John 20:1). I was invited to preach the Easter Sunrise Service up on the mountain overlooking Kerrville, Texas at base of the 77.7 feet tall Empty Cross at The Coming King Sculpture Garden with architect evangelist Max Greiner. But when I got up early to pray and prepare, torrential rain was pouring down, violent winds were gusting amid predictions of rain, hail, and even a tornado. But the sun broke through! And the Light of the Glory of God in Jesus Christ was shining forth! (2 Corinthians 4:4) Praise God! Thank You, Lord Jesus! You are “the Son” who broke through for us. Hell couldn’t hold You; Death could overcome You; the Grave had no power over you. You are risen! You are alive! You have overcome! And now we are empowered to overcome with Your resurrection life in us! Lord, let this be more than a day on our calendar. Let this be more than a remembrance of Your day of resurrection victory from that day long ago. Empower us with a resurrection lifestyle every day. Live Your resurrection in us. Live Your resurrection through us. Bring Your life into every life You would touch, You would change, You would inspire and empower. For “we are ambassadors for Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:20). We are ambassadors of Your resurrection power, Your resurrection life, empowered and sent to live out a resurrection lifestyle in the power of Your grace every day in our world. “He is risen” in us! “He is risen” through us! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, April 18, 2025 - “Truly This Was The Son of God!” Good morning, Lord Jesus. On this Good Friday, I thank You for being such a Good God—full of mercy and love, sacrificing Your Blood, so we could be forgiven and free to live eternal life with You because of all You’ve done for us. ... “Then they crucified Him, and divided His garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet: ‘They divided My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots.’ “Sitting down, they kept watch over Him there. And they put up over His head the accusation written against Him: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. “Then two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and another on the left. “And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads and saying, ‘You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross!’ “Likewise the chief priests also, mocking with the scribes and elders, said, ‘He saved others; Himself He cannot save. If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him. He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now if He will have Him; for He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” “Even the robbers who were crucified with Him reviled Him with the same thing.   “ Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, ‘Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?’ that is, ‘My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?’ “Some of those who stood there, when they heard that, said, ‘This Man is calling for Elijah!’ Immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink. “The rest said, ‘Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to save Him.’ “And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. “Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many. “So when the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, ‘Truly this was the Son of God!’” (Matthew 27:35-54). Yes. “Truly this was the Son of God!” This was the One sent from God, setting aside the glory of heaven to humble Himself in the likeness of human flesh and blood. This was the One who “humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the Cross” (Philippians 2:5-8). In their mockery, You were merciful. In Your misery, You were majestic—not only “King of the Jews,” but “King of Kings and Lord of Lords” (Revelation 19:16). You were “Lord of all” (Acts 10:36). Even those who wagged their tongues against You will one day bow their knees before You. For “God (the Father) has highly exalted (You) and given (You) the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11). Even the earth responded in the moment of Your Sacrifice. The earth quaked, the rocks were split, the graves were opened, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom! Heaven and earth gasped at this moment—this hell-shaking, eternity-changing moment when You willingly chose, as the Son of God, to offer up Your life for all who put their hope and trust in You alone as Savior of all: “For it pleased the Father that in (You) all the fullness should dwell, and by (You) to reconcile all things to Himself, by (You), whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of (Your) Cross” (Colossians 1:19-20). “For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation!” (Romans 5:6-11). Truly You are the Son of God. Truly You are the Savior of the World. And on this Good Friday when we remember all You’ve done for us through Your life, death, and resurrection, I praise You and thank You. I worship and adore You. And I surrender all that I am and all that I have to You—my King of Kings, my Lord of Lords, my Lord and Savior, Lord Jesus Christ. In Jesus name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today.
