Humility 8-7-05

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I open my heart to receive You and open my eyes to seek You, as I welcome You into my life again this day. ... It seems You are saying, "Humility is desperate dependence upon God. Pride is dependence upon yourself." Yes, Lord. Slay our pride and work Your humility into our hearts. Teach us how to humble ourselves in Your sight, so that You may lift us up (James 4.10). True humility is not self-deprecation or denying the gifts and favor of God on our lives, but an awareness and acknowledgment that You are the source of everything of worth in our lives. Pride is just the opposite -- acknowledging what is of worth without acknowledging that You are One who is worthy of the praise. Father, You have revealed Your heart and Your nature and Your will to us in Jesus Christ. And You work Your will into our nature by Your Holy Spirit, who is teaching us and changing us, to conform us into the image of Christ and to restore us to the image of God. Jesus taught us by His example the path and the power of humility. He "humbled Himself" in Your sight and in submission to Your will, so that You "exalted Him." This is the "same mind" that You desire that we have -- this "same mind" in us "that was in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 2.5-11). This is the mind and the heart that is desperately dependent upon God. This is the place where we come to the end of ourselves, to only speak what we hear You speaking and only do what we see You doing. This is the place where we become more like You each day. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen. Be encouraged this day!
