Morning by Morning, November 1, 2024 - “The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Turning my attention to You, I wait for the leading of Your Spirit. ... “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.... For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.... But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.... But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you” (Romans 8:1-2, 5, 9, 11). Thank You for “the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus.” Thank You for giving me both the desire and the power to embrace this Law of Life, to let this Law be my way of Life. It’s not so much a Law I have to live up to as it is a Law of Life that lives in me because Your Spirit lives in me--the very same Spirit that raised You from the dead. This is “the Spirit of Life” (v. 2), “the Spirit of God” (v. 9), “the Spirit of Christ” (v. 9), the Spirit who “dwells in (me)” and every one of us who open our hearts and entrust our lives to You (v. 9). So as I begin my day, I consciously, deliberately, intentionally set my mind on “the things of the Spirit” instead of “the things of the flesh” (v. 5), to “walk” out the steps and moments of my day “according to the Spirit” rather than “according to the flesh” (v. 1). To “set (my) mind” is an active choice of my will, made by the power of Your grace that I choose to allow to motivate my will (v. 5). Making that choice right here, right now in these first moments of my morning sets the course of my day in motion to “live according to the Spirit” today (v. 5). It’s Your Spirit who opens the eyes of my heart to see this choice, to see that there is a choice, and who gives me the desire to make this choice--the choice to choose life in the Spirit rather than life in the flesh, to let Your “Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus” set me “free from the Law of Sin and Death” (v. 2). When I do, by the power of Your grace at work within me, I sense Your deep peace and Your overflowing pleasure that “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus” (v. 1).
