Morning by Morning, November 4, 2024 - “In the Valley of Decision” Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of Kings and Lord of Lords, rule and reign over my life and my land and throughout our world (Revelation 1:5). ... As we near Election Day in our nation tomorrow, this Scripture comes to mind in my prayers today: “Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision” (Joel 3:14). Many have already made their decision and cast their vote in the days of early voting. Many more will make their decision of whether to fulfill their Constitutional responsibility and assert their Constitutional authority to get up and go to the polls or sit back passively to let others go do it instead, just hoping for the best. But “the Lord is near.” The Lord is here. The Lord is ready to pour down into every “valley” of a heart that bows low in humility to ask You how we should pray, to ask You how we should vote. And in that “valley of decision” You will guide by Your Spirit and move in our hearts to lead us into the truth of Your ways and Your will and Your purposes for our land. “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God” (Romans 8:26-27). And Your Word reveals Your will--“the will of God.” Your Word declares Your will that “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34). So as we look at the issues on the ballot, at the representatives of the platforms that line up with righteousness or unrighteousness, as right or wrong, as defined by Your Word and not by the desires of those who do only what is right in their own eyes rather than in submission to the authority of Scripture and the leading of the Holy Spirit, let us choose the way of righteousness (Judges 21:25). We have a responsibility to make right choices in this “valley of decision” for our nation for these days and for the many days to come. We will give an account for our decisions (Hosea 8:4). We will live out the effects of the decisions we make by the leadership we choose (1 Samuel 12:13-25). We will be given over to the choices we make and the Spirit or spirits we choose to follow (Romans 1:24). So let us choose well. Let us choose this day whom we will serve with our voice and our vote (Joshua 24:15). Let us choose well. And let us pray that others will choose well. Let us pray that those who will be led by the Spirit of God will get up and go vote according to the principles of the Word of God to let the voice of Your will be heard in our land. Lord, draw “near” to every heart that needs to be moved by Your Spirit to take a stand for the principles of righteousness, for the platform that most closely aligns with Your Word expressing Your will for this nation and every nation. For “Righteousness exalts a nation.” And Your Holy Spirit leads us to the mind and heart of the only Righteous One. May we be a nation who exalts You by our right choices in “the valley of decision.” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
