Morning by Morning, December 18, 2025 — “And the Government Will Be Upon His Shoulders” Good morning, Lord Jesus. I wait and watch for Your leading. ... Earlier this morning, words from the Prophet Isaiah came to my heart in helping lead a time of intercessory prayer on a conference call with prayer warriors across our country, praying for our nation and our leaders: “And the government will be on His shoulders.... Of the greatness of His government and peace there will be no end” (Isaiah 9:6-7). Our government must be upon Your shoulders, Lord Jesus. You alone are our “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (v. 6). You are the One who establishes “justice and righteousness” (v. 7). So we ask You to move by Your Spirit in the hearts and minds of those placed in positions of authority in our government. Wonderful Counselor, would You bring Your godly wisdom and speak Your godly counsel that will lead and guide our leaders according to Your will and ways. Mighty God, would You move in power to break every yoke of oppression, injustice, intimidation, and control to free us to be the nation You’ve created to be and fulfill the destiny You’ve determined us to live. Everlasting Father, would You move in Your mercy and love, with compassion and grace, but also with correction and discipline, turning the hearts of the fathers and mothers back to the children and the children back to the fathers and mothers again, for revival throughout our land. Prince of Peace, would You establish Your shalom of nothing missing, nothing broken, nothing left undone, in hearts and relationships, in our communities and culture, that we can know Your peace that surpasses all understanding. The beginning of that phrase You brought to my heart this morning, declares: “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given, and the government shall be upon His shoulders” (Isaiah 9:6). During this Christmas season, where all the world celebrates the birth of Christ, we thank You for being born for us, being given to us. You are the only hope of our government, the only Savior for our nation. As we pray for our nation and those in authority, our eyes of worship, our hearts of prayer, are turned to You. Not on any man or any institution. And at the same time, we do pray You would move through the men and women You’ve placed in authority and even in the institutions they serve with Your heart and Your wisdom that we can be positioned to receive Your blessings and be a blessing in our world. One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays
