 Morning by Morning, October 6 - "I Humbled My Soul"

 

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I lift up my heart to You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God -- as You align my life in You -- first the spirit, the soul, then the body. ...

 

"I humbled my soul with fasting" (Psalm 35:13 and 69:10).

 

Fasting is a spiritual means of humbling our souls. It's a way of yielding our will to Your will, getting ourselves out of the way to make room for more of Your ways. It's not so much of what we do as much as it is the attitude with which we do it.

 

With fasting, with prayer, with worship, with the spiritual disciplines You offer us, You invite us to humble our souls, to surrender our wills, to yield our lives to You as our priority. We exalt You as first place, in the place You alone deserve as Lord of our lives.

 

To humble myself is to willingly choose to be desperately dependent upon You alone. To humble my soul is pull down the idols of my self-will apart from Your will, to smash the unholy altars of the worship of myself, and to crush the graven images of demanding my life to be shaped in my image instead of being transformed into Your image.

 

To humble myself before You, to lift up my heart and adore You, is a conscience, deliberate decision of my own free will to trust in You and to trust Your will is better than my will and Your ways are better than my ways. Humbling my soul pulls back the veil that would divide my heart from intimacy with Your Heart, so that I'm drawn near into the deeply personal relationship of trust and love You desire with me and every one of us. Humbling my soul allows You to change me into Your image as I behold You with an unveiled face, a yielded heart, and a surrendered will:

 

"But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).

 

Come, Holy Spirit -- Spirit of the Lord, my God. Give me the grace to follow Your leading to humble my soul, to surrender myself, to look up and behold the glory of the Lord -- heart to Heart, spirit to Spirit, deep to Deep, from glory to glory. Not just now, in this place of focused prayer at the beginning of my day, but also throughout the moments of my day -- especially those moments of my day when my soul wants to rise up and my flesh wants to rule and my will wants to insist on my own way instead of Your way. 

 

Those are the moments I need You the most. Those are the moments when You simply invite me to humble myself and willingly choose to be desperately dependent upon You alone. Those are the moments I need You to "sanctify" me, to realign me, to reset things right within me in my "spirit and soul and body" (1 Thessalonians 5:23). You'll be faithful and You will do it, if I only choose to yield my will to Your will (1 Thessalonians 5:24).

 

And every time, as I humble myself in Your sight, You will lift me up (James 4:10). Every time, as I humble myself before You, You will draw near to me with all the grace I need (James 4:6). It's all part of how You're growing me up "to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ" (Ephesians 4:13), making me more like You every day (Romans 8:29; 1 John 4:17). Come have Your way, in me today. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

"Let Us Worship!" - October 5, 2020

 Morning by Morning, October 5 - "Let Us Worship!"

 

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Your name be lifted high -- here in my heart and here in my world. Yours is the name above every name (Philippians 2:9). ...

 

O come, let us worship and bow down,
    let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!

For He is our God,
    and we are the people of His pasture,
    and the sheep of His hand.

O that today you would listen to His voice!" (Psalm 95:6-7)

Last night we joined thousands to worship Jesus at the Let Us Worship gathering led by Sean Feucht at the giant Empty Cross that stands high on the hill above Kerrville, Texas. At the start of the meeting, a leader from California declared, "I know everything's bigger in Texas, but that is the biggest cross I've ever seen in my life! There's One who is worthy of our biggest praise!"

 

You are worthy of our praise! Your name is worthy to be high and lifted up, in our hearts and across our land!

 

We lifted our praise and shouted our hallelujahs and sounded our shofars, as the hills of the Texas Hill Country sang out the praises of our God!

 

Sean is the young worship leader who courageously goes into the midst of all the hotspot cities and places of riots and violence armed only with the spiritual weapons of worship and love in the power of the name of Jesus. And hundreds are saved, healed, and set free in the atmosphere of worship and praise. Last night was yet another gathering of those hungering and thirsting and yearning for spiritual revival and great awakening across our land for the great harvest at hand!

 

It was my honor and joy to baptize two young women who gave their hearts to Jesus there in the fountain in front of the giant cross. Hundreds of others plunged under the living waters to arise into newness of life with shouts of joy as the angels of heaven cheered on! And under the radiant sunset across the skies, the unusual breeze of the Holy Spirit continued to blow across the land!

 

"O come, let us worship and bow down,
    let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!"

 

As we bow down, as we lift our praise up, as we worship the Lord, our Maker, You are making things right in our hearts and in our land. Though the spiritual battles intensify in our days, so does our praise! Though the darkness grows darker, so does the Light shine even brighter!

 

We will not back down. We will not back off. We will worship and praise our God to see the breakthrough of revival across this land! "Let us worship!" In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

The Fire and the Fear of the Lord Burning in Us! - October 2, 2020

 Morning by Morning, October 2 - The Fire and the Fear of the Lord Burning in Us!

 

Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of Kings and Lord of Lords, come rule and reign in my heart and every moment of my day. ...

 

"Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we try to persuade others.... For the love of Christ urges us on, because we are convinced that One has died for all; therefore all have died. And He died for all, so that those who live might live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died and was raised for them.... So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making His appeal through us; we you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God" (2 Corinthians 5:11-20).

 

With deep worship, inspiring testimonies, and a powerful bond of unity in the Spirit of so many hungering and thirsting for a fresh encounter with the Living God last night, I had the honor and joy of sharing a message of the love and power and mercy of God. What an honor and joy we all have in our way through the opportunities You open to be "ambassadors for Christ," urged on  by "the love of Christ," to "persuade others" of the goodness of God from the heart of faith and hope and love You given each of us. You've changed us and now You invite us and inspire us to live for You and love for You, no longer for ourselves "but for Him who died and was raised for (us)." 

 

As I shared last night, I'm certain there has been a shift in the spiritual atmosphere of our land through the citywide and national gatherings for repentance and prayer, in hearts and homes across our country. And though the battles are intensified, so are the breakthroughs.

 

In my own words and prayers, seeking to be led by Your Spirit, I sense an intensified level of boldness and courage, speaking the truth in love, without compromise yet full of Your compassion. I feel more free than ever before. And I see the same in those around me who are passionately pursuing You with all they have and all they are. It's as if "there is a new creation; everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!" (v. 17) "All this is from God!" (v. 18)

 

But this morning, as I ponder these things that are still fresh on my mind and still stirring in my heart, what I sense above all is a call to a deeper level of holiness, of surrender, of a passion for purity of my heart. As You entrust to us greater measures of Your authority as Your ambassadors, You're also calling us to greater measures of our responsibility to embrace Your Refiner's Fire.

 

It's in "knowing the fear of the Lord," in embracing the Fire of the Lord, that You're calling us and empowering us at a much greater level than before "to persuade others" of this great hope and Your great love. The Fire and the fear of the Lord are burning in us!

 

There's a Holy Fire being kindled to burn across our land. And right now, that Holy Fire is being kindled in us as never before. Purify us, sanctify us. Purify me. Sanctify me. Burn out of us and out of me all that's not yet like You!

 

As You increase the level authority You're entrusting to us to speak Your words, "making (Your) appeal through us," You're increasing our authenticity of the character of Your nature in us. Our words will reveal Your heart. Our lives will reflect Your nature. And our witness will lead our world to You. All by the power of Your grace at work within us, for "all this is from God" and all this is for God. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Thank you for all your prayers for us last night at our Aglow Meeting at the Kendall Inn in Boerne.  Though our gathering was in a hotel conference hall instead of a church, the heavens were open and we were on holy ground in the Presence of the Lord! I pray you receive in Your spirit all the Lord poured into us in our spirits!

 Morning by Morning, October 1 - The Lord Will "Suddenly Come to His Temple"

 

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Arise in my spirit, as my spirit arises in You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...

 

"See, I am sending My messenger to prepare the way before Me, and the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to His temple.... For He is like a refiner's fire and like fullers' soap; He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and He will purify the descendants of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, until they present offerings to the Lord in righteousness. Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the Lord as in the days of old and as in former years.... Then those who revered the Lord spoke to one another. The Lord took note and listened, and a book of remembrance was written before Him of those who revered the Lord and thought on His name. They shall be Mine, says the Lord of hosts, My special possession on the day when I act and I will spare them as parents spare their children who serve them. Then once more you shall see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him. See the day is coming, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble; the day that comes shall burn them up, says the Lord of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch. But for you who revere My name the sun of righteousness shall rise, with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall. And you shall tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet, in the day when I act, says the Lord of hosts" (Malachi 3:1-4:3).

 

In Your Book of Remembrance, I believe it is now written that a remnant of those who revere Your name, who fear the Lord our God, have turned to You in repentance and representation of a nation seeking to come again under God. I believe there's been a critical mass of those are turning to You, crying out to You, from across our land that You would hear our prayer, forgive our sin, and heal our land (Genesis 16:32; 2 Chronicles 7:14). And I believe it's Your desire according to Your Word to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness and restore us to right relationship with You, secure in our identity and to fulfill our destiny (1 John 1:9).

 

You've sent Your Holy Spirit to prepare the way of the Lord in our hearts for this return to You and revival in our land. And You've promised in Your Word, "Return to Me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts" (Malachi 3:7).  I believe You've been looking into the hearts of a remnant who revere Your name, that there's been a shift in the spiritual atmosphere over our land, and that now is the time You will "suddenly come to (Your) temple." And we are Your "temple" -- the "temple" of Your Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). We are "the body of Christ" -- hungry and thirsty to be filled up and overflowing with "the Spirit of Christ" in our days, for such a time as this (1 Corinthians 12:27; Romans 8:9; Ephesians 5:18).

 

As You suddenly come into Your "temple," as we return to You and You return to us, You are coming like a "refiner's fire" and "fullers' soap" to burn out of us all that is not like You and set us ablaze with all that is like You. You're restoring holiness, purity, righteousness, and the reverent fear of the Lord to our land. You're making Your bride ready (Revelation 19:7) and bringing many sons to glory (Hebrews 2:10). May we arise and shine with the authority of Your name in our words and the character of Your nature in our hearts (1 John 4:17).

 

We will soon begin to see the fruit, the evidence of the Presence and power of our God -- with the Sun of Righteousness arising with healing love and power, with days of refreshing and joy like calves leaping from the stall. All this, even in the midst of the wickedness and darkness of these days, but with increasing displays of You crushing the wickedness under the soles of our feet, as we stand firm in You and You stand firm in us -- in those who return to You in the reverent fear of the Lord.

 

Lord, let it be so! Lord, come suddenly now into Your temple. Let Your Refiner's Fire burn in us and across our land and "to the ends of the earth!" (Acts 1:8) In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
