Morning by Morning, July 20 - Looking and Listening into the Heavens
Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of kings and Lord of lords, rule and reign in my heart and every moment of my day. ...
“The heavens are telling the glory of God,
and the firmament proclaims His handiwork.
Day to day pours forth speech,
and night to night declares knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words;
their voice is not heard;
yet their voice goes out through all the earth
and their words to the end of the world” (Psalm 19:1-4).
With all the world, I’ve been amazed by the stunning images returning to Earth from the Webb Telescope, hurtling through the heavens and peering into deep space. Due to the principles of the speed of light, the farther the images, the earlier in time that we’re able to see. Astounding.
If we were able to look far enough, if we were able to look early enough, could we actually see the moment of the beginning of creation? What would that look like?
But instead of only looking for the beginning, we should also be listening for the beginning. We should be looking and listening into the heavens. What we would see would be thrilling, but what we would hear would be Heaven and Earth shattering. For all creation has a beginning. And all creation has a Creator. You alone are eternal. You alone are everlasting:
“Before the mountains were brought forth
or ever You had formed the earth and the world,
from everlasting to everlasting You are God” (Psalm 90:2).
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light” (Genesis 1:1-3).
Yes, if we could look that far, if we could look that early, we would see light bursting into the darkness. And we hear the sound of light being created with these words that must still be eternally ringing in the heavens, “Let there be light.”
Even now in this moment of time, in this sliver of eternity we call “today,” let Your Spirit hover over all that is dark in our world, in our nation, even in all that has not yet yielded to Your word and Your light in my heart and life, and speak Your eternal words of “spirit and life” by Your “Spirit of Truth” (John 6:63 and 16:13).
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and without Him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in Him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overtake it” (John 1:1-5).
Lord Jesus, Word of God, One with the Father and One with the Spirit, “only speak the word” over me and my world. And all will be forever changed (Matthew 8:8) -- whether in the heavens or right here in my heart. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
