Morning by Morning, September 12 - Each Part Doing Our Part, with Honor and Praise Good morning, Lord Jesus. I seek to begin my day listening for Your leading from the communion of prayer -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ... In Christ, we’re all part of “the body of Christ” -- “Now (we) are the body of Christ and individually members of it” (1 Corinthians 12:27). We each have a part; we each are a part. Together, we each do our part to be an expression of Your heart, Your hands, Your feet, Your word, Your will, in our world with honor and praise. As I learn my part and seek to fulfill my part -- all by the presence of Your Spirit who abides in every one of us, holding every part of Your body together, as You live Your life in our world today through us together -- I celebrate and honor every other part of Your body. None of us can fulfill our part without the encouragement, alignment, and fulfillment of every part. In the words of Your Word that both humble us and honor us, You beautifully expressed the nature and character of Your body through the Apostle Paul in his Letter to the early Church: “For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--Jews or Greeks, slaves or free--and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. “Indeed, the body does not consist of one member but of many. If the foot would say, ‘Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,’ that would not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear would say, ‘Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,’ that would not make it any less a part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole body were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as He chose. “If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many members yet one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I have no need of you,’ nor again the head to the feet, ‘I have no need of you.’ On the contrary, the members of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and those members of the body that we think less honorable we clothe with greater honor, and our less respectable members are treated with greater respect, whereas our more respectable members do not need this. But God has so arranged the body, giving the greater honor to the inferior member, that there may be no dissension within the body, but the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together with it; if one member is honored, all rejoice together with it” (1 Corinthians 12:12-26). How beautiful is the body of Christ! Today, I rejoice together with every part of Your body. Today, I honor every part of Your body. We each have a part. And through the power and presence of Your Holy Spirit, who unites us and empowers us and expresses Your heart through us, we will fulfill our part together. And Your heart will be expressed in our world through us. That’s all a part of how Your Word will be fulfilled: “The earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea!” (Habakkuk 2:14 and Isaiah 40:4) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
