Morning by Morning, September 9 - Changed “In a Moment”
Good morning, Lord Jesus. Lead me today – step by step and heart to heart (Matthew 16:24). ... “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed” (1 Corinthians 15:52). Everything can change “in a moment.” One day that moment will come for all the earth. One day when You return in glory, nothing will ever be the same. The Message version of this passage of Scripture expresses it this way: “But let me tell you something wonderful, a mystery I’ll probably never fully understand. We’re not all going to die—but we are all going to be changed. You hear a blast to end all blasts from a trumpet, and in the time that you look up and blink your eyes--it’s over. On signal from that trumpet from heaven, the dead will be up and out of their graves, beyond the reach of death, never to die again. At the same moment and in the same way, we’ll all be changed. In the resurrection scheme of things, this has to happen: everything perishable taken off the shelves and replaced by the imperishable, this mortal replaced by the immortal. Then the saying will come true: Death swallowed by triumphant Life! Who got the last word, oh, Death? Oh, Death, who’s afraid of you now? It was sin that made death so frightening and law-code guilt that gave sin its leverage, its destructive power. But now in a single victorious stroke of Life, all three--sin, guilt, death--gone, the gift of our Master, Jesus Christ. Thank God!” (1 Corinthians 15:51-57 MSG). And at the same time, there are a lot of moments between this one right now and that glorious moment to come one day. The truth is You can change everything “in a moment.” Lord, let that moment be now. Change my heart now. Change my way of thinking now. Make me more like You now, as You put more of Your thoughts in my mind and more of Your desires in my heart. Sometimes You change things dramatically, for all the world to see. And sometimes -- what's really more like most of the time -- You change things little by little, layer by layer, step by step, “from faith to faith” and “glory to glory” (Romans 1:17; 1 Corinthians 3:18 KJV). Change me today, Lord. You can change everything in a moment; let that moment be now. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
