Morning by Morning, September 13 - Seeking “A Tender Heart” and “A Humble Mind” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be at the center of my heart and in the middle of every moment of my day. ... “Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love for one another, a tender heart, and a humble mind” (1 Peter 3:8). There’s a “unity of spirit” when Your Holy Spirit is in communion with my human spirit. It’s Your Spirit abiding in my spirit, at work within my spirit by the power of Your grace that forms in me “a tender heart” and “a humble mind.” “For it is God who is at work in (me), enabling (me) both to will and to work for His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13). As expressed in the New Living Translation: “For God is working in (me), giving (me) the desire and the power to do what pleases Him” (NLT). You’re pleased when I’m seeking You and allowing You to form “a tender heart” in me. You’re pleased when I’m seeking You and allowing You to form “a humble mind” in me. And I do acknowledge my need for my heart to be more tender and for my mind to be more humble. I’m only able to love because You first loved me (1 John 4:19). I’m only able to humble myself in Your sight because You humbled Yourself to set aside the glory of Heaven to come into this world in the likeness of human flesh and blood to live out a sinless life and selflessly lay down Your life for me that I could live forever with You (Philippians 2:5-11). But by the power of Your grace at work within me, I am able to love others with “a tender heart” and I am able to humble myself before You with “a humble mind.” So help me choose that path. Help me embrace that perspective. Help me allow You to make that a goal and a priority for my life -- this day and every day. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
