Choosing Well in the Choices Set Before Us - February 2, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, February 2 - Choosing Well in the Choices Set Before Us Good morning, Lord Jesus. My heart is open to You as I watch and wait for Your leading, for Your sheep hear Your voice and follow You (John 10:27). … As I listen for the leading of Your Holy Spirit, what’s coming to my heart are the words, “I set choices before you. Seek Me and My guidance and I will lead you in every choice you make.” … Yes, Lord. Your Word from several Scriptures comes to mind: “See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction” (Deuteronomy 30:15). “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God” (Romans 8:14). “Choose for yourselves today whom you will serve … but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15). I choose You. I choose to follow You and serve You. I choose to seek the leading of Your Spirit and walk in the path of “newness of life” You set before me—morning by morning, step by step, one choice at time, on my journey with You today (Romans 6:4). Just as Your Word continues to encourage Your people who are called by Your name to choose well each day: “Be careful to do what the Lord your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left. Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess” (Deuteronomy 5:32-33). I’m trusting You and Your Spirit to guide me in every choice set before me today, just as You promised He would: “When He, the Spirit of Truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13). For the sons and daughters of God are led by the Spirit of God (Romans 8:14). “The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in (Your) name, will teach (me) all things and remind me of everything (You) have said to (me)” (John 14:26). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. “One in the Spirit” and “One in the Lord” - February 1, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, February 1 - “One in the Spirit” and “One in the Lord” Good morning, Lord Jesus. I surrender all of me to all of You, as I begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. … The words of an old worship song from the earlier times of my deeper spiritual journey come to my heart this morning, “We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord.” … And now this Scripture in alignment with this song in my heart: “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all” (Ephesians 4:3-6). Align my spirit with Your Spirit, my heart with Your Heart, my will with Your Will, my ways with Your Ways. Make me one with You in every area of my life. As I’m aligned with You, then I can be rightly aligned with the relationships in my life, as You are align their spirit with Your Spirit, their heart with Your Heart, their will with Your Will, and their ways with Your Ways. Then, by “the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace,” we will be one with You and one with one another.  Then, You can send us out as one in the Spirit and one in the Lord into our world as “Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us” (2 Corinthians 5:20)—rightly representing Your character in our hearts and moving in Your authority in our actions. By the power of Your grace at work within us, as one with You and one with one another, we will fulfill Your great vision for our lives: “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in Me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in Me and I am in You. May they also be in Us so that the world may believe that You have sent Me. I have given them the glory that You gave Me, that they may be one as We are one—I in them and You in Me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that You sent Me and have loved them even as You have loved Me” (John 17:20-23). Lord Jesus, let it be so in me and in every one of Your disciples, as You unite us together with You and one another each day—"one in the Spirit” and “one in the Lord.” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. “Go Your Way Till the End” - January 31, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, January 31 - “Go Your Way Till the End”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind, Your desires in my heart, and Your words in my mouth. ...   As I wait, I hear in my heart, “Go your way.” ...   This Scripture from the life of Daniel comes to mind:   “Although I heard, I did not understand. Then I said, ‘My lord, what shall be the end of these things?’   “And he said, ‘Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.’ Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand....   “But you, go your way till the end; for you shall rest, and will arise to your inheritance at the end of the days’” (Daniel 12:8-13).   Like Daniel, there’s much we don’t understand about the days we’re in or the days to come. Some things are open to us to know and some things are not. Some things will be revealed along the way and some will not be revealed “till the end.”   But every day between this day and the last day to come, we are to continue our journey, our adventure of faith, on our destination with You. And our destination is You -- to be conformed into the image of the Son of God (Romans 8:29). As we go our way, we discover You are our way -- “the Way and the Truth and the Life” (John 14:6). Our spiritual journey and adventure of faith is to overcome, to “grow up in all things into Him who is the head” in spiritual maturity, to learn to love, to be “transformed into (Your) same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord” (Ephesians 4:15; 2 Corinthians 3:18). For as You are, so are we to be in our world (1 John 4:17).   As we journey “till the end,” our “end” is to be like You. As Your Word promises all who join in this daily journey, “Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is” (1 John 3:2).   That’s our “inheritance at the end of days” as we each choose each day to “arise” and “go (our) way till the end.” Lord, let it be so in me -- this day and every day -- as best as I can and all by Your grace. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. “From Faith to Faith” - January 30, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, January 30 - “From Faith to Faith”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me begin my day grounded in Your Word and filled with Your Spirit -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...   “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, ‘The just shall live by faith’” (Romans 1:16-17).   “From faith to faith.”   We’re in between our adventures of faith right now. Last week in Mexico; next week in India. In between, I’ll be teaching two of my classes and sharing stories at one of Rocio’s tamale parties with friends.   Every day is an adventure of faith, an opportunity to share the hope I carry in my heart of Your mercy and love, Your power and grace -- “from faith to faith,” step by step, person by person, morning by morning, all along the way. And You’ll be right here with me, right here by my side, right here in my heart, every step of the way.   As Your Word compels us, “Make sure that in your hearts you honor Christ as Lord. Always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks you about the hope you have. Be ready to give the reason for it. But do it gently and with respect” (1 Peter 3:15 NIRV).   So as I rise now from my place of prayer and go out into the places You send me -- whether heading over to meet the men for coffee in a minute or heading half way around the world in a week -- You’re filling me with expectant faith for all I’ll experience and encounter on my daily adventure of faith in You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Going Nowhere Without the Presence of God - January 19, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, January 19 - Going Nowhere Without the Presence of God   Good morning, Lord Jesus. I begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ...   “And (The Lord) said (to Moses), ‘My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.’ Then he said to (The Lord), ‘If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here’” (Exodus 33:14-15).   Like Moses, I don’t want to go anywhere You’re not going.   Don’t let me get ahead of You or behind You. Let me hear the Voice of Your Spirit, saying, “This is the way, walk in it” (Isaiah 30:21). Let me know Your Voice and follow You (John 10:27). As a son of God, let me be led by the Spirit of God (Romans 8:14).   It’s only in Your Presence that there is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11). It’s only in Your Presence that there is peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7).   So let me pursue Your Presence (James 4:8), abide in Your Presence (John 15:4), embrace Your Presence (Hebrews 10:22), rest in Your Presence (Hebrews 4:1).   Then I can follow Your Presence wherever You lead, whenever You lead, however You lead. Because without Your Presence, I don’t want to go. And I thank You today, with all my heart and mind and soul and strength, that I never have to be without Your Presence -- for You are with me always (Matthew 28:20). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
