Morning by Morning, February 1 - “One in the Spirit” and “One in the Lord”
Good morning, Lord Jesus. I surrender all of me to all of You, as I begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. …
The words of an old worship song from the earlier times of my deeper spiritual journey come to my heart this morning, “We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord.” …
And now this Scripture in alignment with this song in my heart:
“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all” (Ephesians 4:3-6).
Align my spirit with Your Spirit, my heart with Your Heart, my will with Your Will, my ways with Your Ways. Make me one with You in every area of my life.
As I’m aligned with You, then I can be rightly aligned with the relationships in my life, as You are align their spirit with Your Spirit, their heart with Your Heart, their will with Your Will, and their ways with Your Ways. Then, by “the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace,” we will be one with You and one with one another.
Then, You can send us out as one in the Spirit and one in the Lord into our world as “Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us” (2 Corinthians 5:20)—rightly representing Your character in our hearts and moving in Your authority in our actions. By the power of Your grace at work within us, as one with You and one with one another, we will fulfill Your great vision for our lives:
“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in Me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in Me and I am in You. May they also be in Us so that the world may believe that You have sent Me. I have given them the glory that You gave Me, that they may be one as We are one—I in them and You in Me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that You sent Me and have loved them even as You have loved Me” (John 17:20-23). Lord Jesus, let it be so in me and in every one of Your disciples, as You unite us together with You and one another each day—"one in the Spirit” and “one in the Lord.” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
