“Put on the Armor of Light” - February 13, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, February 13 - “Put on the Armor of Light”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. I worship You and wait upon You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...   “The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light” (Romans 13:12).   As we travel each day from my room to the places of ministry here in South India, we pass many, many temples to the “gods” who are worshipped in this land. They are “gods” made of stone or cement, mixtures of male and female and animals, often with fierce and angry faces. They’re in cities and the countryside, by the roadside and up on the hills. There’s a giant, golden-colored one up on the high place of the hillside just down the road from my room. They’re everywhere.   As I pass them by, I sense You saying in my spirit, “Glance and be aware, but do not stare.”   From the Truth of the Word of God, these are idols. And what is worshipped in the places and sacrificed to these “gods” opens up a darkness over the land and over the people of this land. The precious people of this land are very, very spiritual with a deep hunger for spiritual things. But the enemy of our souls offers a counterfeit supply to their spiritual hunger, as they consume a darkness thinking it’s light.   But there is One who is the Light. You said, “I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but have the Light of Life” (John 8:12). Your Word says, “If we walk in the Light, as He is in the Light, we have followship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 5:7). In that way, by the power of Your grace at work within us, by the Light of Your Life shining through us, we fulfill Your Word over every one of us who are Your disciples, following You in Your Light, saying, “You are the light of world” (Matthew 5:14).   So today, as I rise from my place of prayer and go out into my day of ministry, I “cast off the works of darkness” and I “put on the armor of Light” (Romans 13:12). Greater is Your Light who is in me than any darkness I will encounter today (1 John 4:4). Light always overcomes the darkness; and that darkness will never overcome the Light (John 1:5).   O God, push back the darkness today! Open up Your heavens over us! Let Your Light shine forth with salvations, healing, deliverance, and revival -- here in my heart and here in the hearts of the precious people of this beautiful and spiritual land! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Filled with Peace and Joy in Every Tribe, Tongue, and Nation - February 12, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, February 12 - Filled with Peace and Joy in Every Tribe, Tongue, and Nation   Good morning, Lord Jesus. I speak out Your name and listen for Your voice to begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with Your Holy Spirit. ...   “After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying, ‘Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!’ All the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living creatures, and fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying:   “‘Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom, Thanksgiving and honor and power and might, Be to our God forever and ever. Amen.’   “Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, ‘Who are these arrayed in white robes, and where did they come from?’   “And I said to him, ‘Sir, you know.’   “So he said to me, ‘These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple. And He who sits on the throne will dwell among them. They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes’” (Revelation 7:9-17).   What a thrill to know that when we all get to heaven we see our brothers and sisters from around the world and throughout the ages from every tongue and tribe and nation! All will be pure and spotless through the blood of the Lamb. All will be filled with joy and worship forever and ever with no more sorrow or sadness, no more hunger or thirst, no more pain or persecution. No more tears but only joy and peace in the Presence of Jesus!   Lord, fill our hearts with that peace and joy now! Even in the midst of whatever we go through, remind us of Your vision and the fulfillment of our hope in You. “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (Romans 5:5).   As You encouraged the first generation of Your disciples, You continue to encourage every generation of Your disciples:   “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world!” (John 16:33)   For these three weeks, You’ve sent me among the people and tribes in the nation of India. On Saturday I spoke words of encouragement among many pastors who serve You among the tribal people in the hills along the eastern coast of India. Many face persecution for their faith every day, enduring the tribulation of their circumstances every day. But their faith is strong and their hope is alive! I feel I received from them so much more that I was able to give -- but all was from You, from Your Spirit abiding in every one of us.   Fill us all each day -- in our generation and every generation to come -- with strong faith and living hope, keeping our eyes on You and our hearts lifted up to You. Fill us now with a measure of the ultimate peace and joy we eternally have in You! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. “Go Therefore” - February 6, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, February 6 - “Go Therefore”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be at the center of my heart and everything I do today. ...   As I wait for Your leading, I hear in my heart, “Go therefore. ...” ...   And of course, Your Words come to my mind immediately from Your Great Commission:   “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20).   Why do we “Go?” We “Go therefore” because “All authority has been given to (You) in heaven and earth” (v. 18). And in the wisdom and eternal plan of God, You’ve entrusted Your authority to us as Your disciples to “Go” in Your Spirit with Your Heart in the power of Your authority to the ends of the earth until the end of the age. As the Father sent You, so You send us (John 20:21).   As You commissioned Your first disciples, You continue to commission every disciple -- whether it’s across the street or across the world, in the way that fits who You’ve created us to be and what You’ve called us to do, as “ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us” (2 Corinthians 5:20).   You said, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover” (Mark 16:15-18).   You said, “As you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give!” (Matthew 10:8).   You send us not in our authority but Yours, not to accomplish our will, but Yours. So we go in humility as we go in authority (Philippians 2:5; James 4:10).   With Your character in my heart and Your authority in my words, You’re sending me to India in the morning for three weeks of ministry in three cities there. I pray for Your Holy Spirit to burn in my spirit, as I seek to keep abiding in You with You abiding in me every step of the way and every moment of my days (John 15:4). As You are, so am I to be -- wherever I am and wherever You send me -- in my world (1 John 4:17) as an “ambassador for Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:20), as a son of God (Romans 8:16), as a carrier of the Presence and Spirit of Christ in my heart (Colossians 1:27).   Thank You so much for all who “Go” with me and who “Go” into their world for Your kingdom through their prayers, encouragement, and support. Thank You so much for those who “Go” when they speak into the lives of their families and children and coworkers and employees and neighbors as disciple-makers in all the myriad and multifaceted ways that You are still making disciples of all nations -- one soul at a time.   The authority we carry at the heart of Your commission is the authority of Your love:   “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). As we go in the power and authority of Your love, we know and trust in the Promise of Your Word, “Lover never fails” (1 Corinthians 13:8).   Just as it was with Your first disciples, let it be so with me and with every one of Your disciples today: “And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs” (Mark 16:20). In the mighty name of Jesus, let there be “signs” of the power and love of God everywhere we “Go!” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Come to Me - February 5, 2024

Morning by Morning, February 5 - Come to Me   Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are One with the Father, One with the Holy Spirit. And You invite me to be one with You in the communion of prayer and the complete surrender of my life into the fullness of Your Life. Here I am, Lord. ... Make me one with You, one with Your Body of Christ, one in ministry to all the world, until I feast with You at Your heavenly banquet in final victory. ...   In my heart, I hear Your Spirit singing a new song over me:   Come to Me Be one in Me In the communion of prayer I’ll take You there That wherever I Am, there you will be   Yes, Lord. I do come to You. I do surrender to You in trusting faith, embracing Your Life to be expressed through my life today. As You invited Your first followers to come and trust and believe, so You continue to invite me and to all who would be drawn to You:    “Everything that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and anyone who comes to Me I will never drive away; for I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that I should lose nothing of all that He has given Me, but raise it up on the last day. This is indeed the will of My Father, that all who see the Son and believe in Him may have eternal life; and I will raise them up on the last day... Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me” (John 6:37-45).   Thank You for loving me and singing over me (Zephaniah 3:17). Thank You for inviting me into the fullness of life I can only have as I live in communion with You--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (John 17:21-23). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen Be encouraged today.
