Sign of Total Eclipse in the Heavens Leading to Days of Total Repentance and Revival in Our Hearts - April 8, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, April 8 - Sign of Total Eclipse in the Heavens Leading to Days of Total Repentance and Revival in Our Hearts   Good morning, Lord Jesus. I look to You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God -- and welcome the Light of the Glory of Your Presence into my heart and every moment of my day. ...   Today at our home in Texas, we’ll witness the much-anticipated total solar eclipse when the sun goes dark in the middle of the day. We’ll be taking time to look up in the sky and marvel at this rare event in the heavens. But at the same time, it reminds me of another time when the sun went dark in the middle of the day. It wasn’t a natural astrological event of the moon covering the sun of our world, but a supernatural spiritual event of the darkness of sin and death covering the Son of God as You took upon Yourself all the sins of the world in Your sacrifice of love for us at the cross:   “It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Jesus called out with a loud voice, ‘Father, into your hands I commit My spirit.’ When He had said this, He breathed His last” (Luke 23:44-46).   That event didn’t last three or four minutes, as ours will, but lasted for three hours. That was not a slender path of totality that crossed a nation, as ours will, but covered the whole land in total darkness.   Your Word speaks of signs in the heavens that call our attention to Your activity on the earth:   “God said, ‘Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens … and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years’” (Genesis 1:14).   As the “path of totality” of this total solar eclipse passes across our nation today from southwest to northeast, from Texas to Maine, may we see the beauty of Your creation in this rare form, but may we also heed any warning of Your Spirit to the heart of our nation, as exhorted by many prophetic voices of our nation, such as Chris Reed of MorningStar Ministries and others. Many have seen the event of a total eclipse throughout the occurrences of history as a spiritual warning of judgment, as when the sun is hidden in the sky speaking of times when the Son of God is hidden from the hearts of the people.   Some say a solar eclipse passed over the land during the days when Your prophet Jonah preached Your call to repentance to the king and people of Nineveh, called the Assyrian Eclipse and recorded in their historical texts (see Jonah 3:3-4). The king and the people of Nineveh in Assyria repented and “turned from their evil ways, (and You) relented and did not bring on them the destruction (You) had threatened” (v.10).   Many have noted that the “path of totality” of this total solar eclipse will pass over the cities of Nineveh, Texas, Nineveh, Ohio, Nineveh Indiana, Nineveh, Pennsylvania, and Nineveh, New York in America, as well as Nineveh, Nova Scotia in Canada. It will even pass over the city of Jonah, Texas. Some would say it’s a coincidence and others would say it’s a call to prayer and repentance as a sign in the heavens for our nation to return to its calling and identity as “one nation under God” as we “turn from (our) evil ways.”   Eclipse or not, signs in the heavens or not, the invitation of Your Word and what many would call Your Covenant of Revival still stands as an invitation to the people of this land and every land to turn our hearts to You in repentance for revival, cleansing, and healing of our land:   “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).   Lord, hear our prayer. Lord, move in our hearts and in the heart of our land. As darkness covers the sun, lets us also see the darkness that covers our souls and the soul of our nation so that the Son of God can arise again in our hearts in revival across our land!   Sometimes it gets darker before it gets brighter, just like it got darker on the Good Friday of the cross when great darkness covered the whole land, but everything changed in the Light of Your Glory on that Resurrection Sunday! Lord turn our darkness into light, as the Light of Your Glory revealed in the Face of the Son of God fills our hearts and our land with Your praise (2 Corinthians 4:4). Let the dawning of that day come when “the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea!” (Habakkuk 2:14) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.  Morning by Morning, April 4 - “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us”

 

Good morning, Lord Jesus. You’re one with my Father, one with the Holy Spirit; and at the same time, in the mystery of faith and fullness of love, You desire to be one with me and every one of us who open our hearts to You. ...

 

As You prayed before going to the cross in view of the resurrection:

 

“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in Me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as You are in Me and I am in You. May they also be in Us so that the world may believe that You have sent Me. I have given them the glory that You gave Me, that they may be one as We are one--I in them and You in Me--so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that You sent Me and have loved them even as You have loved Me” (Luke 17:20-23).

 

That Truth seems almost too amazing to be true--that our Father loves us even as much as He loves You. But that’s what You came to reveal, what You laid down Your life for us to reveal--that “the world will know that (the Father) sent (the Son) and (has) loved (us) even as (the Father) loved (the Son” (v. 23).

 

As I ponder this Truth, allowing it to seep deeply into my soul, the words of a profound song of worship come to mind:

 

How deep the Father's love for us,

How vast beyond all measure!

That He should give His only Son,

To make a wretch His treasure.

How great the pain of searing loss!

The Father turns His face away;

As wounds which marred the Chosen One

Bring many sons to glory.

Your death and resurrection, Your eternal sacrifice of love in laying down Your life for us, move me to love You and receive Your love for me. You’re “bringing many sons to glory” -- “many sons (and daughters, the children of our God and Father) to glory” (Hebrews 2:10). In humility and honor, in surrender and faith, I embrace Your invitation that’s greater than my imagination, that You might make me one with You--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God--as You reach out to all the world to know this same deep love You have for every one of us. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Burning Hearts - April 3, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, April 3 - Burning Hearts   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Lead me in the way that leads to life in You today. ...   “Now on that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, and talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing, Jesus Himself came near and went with them, but their eyes were kept from recognizing Him.... When He was at the table with them, He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight. They said to each other, ‘Were not our hearts burning within us while He was talking to us on the road, while He opened the Scriptures to us?’” (Luke 24:13-32)   Lord Jesus, as I speak of You, would You come near to me? As read of You, would You cause my heart to burn within me?   The words of Moses and the words of the prophets speak of You, the One who fulfills the promises of God (v. 27). The words of the Scriptures of God prepare the way of the Lord in my heart to encounter the Presence of God. And You come near. You open my eyes to see, my heart to receive, and my faith to believe.   In the communion of Your Presence--both grounded in Your Word and filled with Your Spirit--let Your Word and Your Spirit burn in my heart. Set me ablaze with a passion for You in these first moments of my morning and let my heart burn within me, with both love and obedience, throughout the moments of my day. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Rivers of Resurrection Life - April 2, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, April 2 - Rivers of Resurrection Life   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind, Your desires in my heart, Your words in my mouth, as I embrace my place in the body of Christ today (1 Corinthians 12:27). ...   “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time” (1 Peter 1:3-5).   I have a “new birth into a living hope”--all by the power of Your resurrection. I have “an inheritance that can never perish, spoil, or fade”--all by the power of Your resurrection. Let us live into the fullness of our inheritance and the fullness of life we have in You through Your resurrection.   Death is defeated. Hope is alive. I’m born again by Your Spirit abiding in me, giving Your Life to me, flowing through me. Your Resurrection Life releases a River of Life flowing through all who believe in You, trusting in You and all You have done for us, bringing Your Life to all it touches. “Whoever believes in Me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them” (John 7:38).   In the heavenly places, there’s already a “river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb” (Revelation 22:1). Let Your river flow! Let Your rivers of resurrection life flow in us and through us and throughout our world! Let “the knowledge of the glory of the Lord cover the earth as the waters cover the sea!” (Habakkuk 2:14) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Resurrection Power and Perspective - April 1, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, April 1 - Resurrection Power and Perspective   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Let Your life fill my heart. ...   “Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men.   “But the angel answered and said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.’   “So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word” (Matthew 28:1-8).   The angel said, “He is risen!” And every heart that trusts in You and all You have done for us through the sacrifice of Your love and the shedding of Your blood says, “He is risen!”   And now every moment of every day, Your same Spirit rises in us! Your resurrection power rises in us! “If the Spirit if Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in (us), He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to (our) mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in (us)!” (Romans 8:11)   Let Your resurrection power, Your resurrection life, become my resurrection lifestyle with my resurrection perspective: I’m not dead; I’m alive! I’m not lost; I’m found! I’m not overcome; I’m an overcomer! I’ve not been conquered; I’m more than a conqueror! I’m not a victim; I’m victorious!   “And (us) He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins.... But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace (we) have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus!” (Ephesians 2:1-6)   Because You have taken Your place in Your resurrection glory, I can take me place in You! Because You are alive, I am alive! Because You have risen, I am risen in You! Give me the grace to live my days from that resurrection perspective. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today.
