“A Time for War, and a Time of Peace” and Always the Time to Pray - October 10, 2023

 

Morning by Morning, October 10 - “A Time for War, and a Time of Peace” and Always the Time to Pray   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind, Your desires in my heart, Your words in my mouth, as I listen for Your leading. ...   According to Your Word, there is “a time for war, and a time of peace” (Ecclesiastes 3:8 ESV). “For there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven” (v. 1).   And it’s always the time to pray (1 Thessalonians 5:17).   Even through the time of war, we pray for the time of peace to come. But even as we pray for peace, we remember Your words that the kind of peace we are praying for is not the world’s kind of peace--a peace that turns a blind eye to injustice, a peace that appeases evil, a peace that compromises with the “righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” of the kingdom of God (Romans 14:17). No, we pray for Your peace, the peace of Your kingdom that only King of the Kingdom of God can ever provide. As You said:   “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid” (John 14:27).   So as we obey the call and command of Your Word to “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:6), we pray for Your peace for Jerusalem, Your peace for Israel and Palestine, for all the Middle East and all the people and nations of this world. But it is a peace that comes when we call upon Your name, when we turn to You and the Source of true peace, for only You are “the Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). Only Your name is “called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).   So as our hearts break, as fears and anxieties of the state of our world and the horror and terror of these days seeks to rise in our minds and emotions, we turn to You and call on Your name and seek Your help. We lift up our hearts and our voices to You in faithfulness and prayer, because that’s where our Help comes from; our Help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth (Psalm 121:1-2).   No matter what time this is--for war, for peace, for courage, for action, for boldness, for faith, for hope, for love--let us answer Your call to this time of prayer, here in our own hearts and in the heart of all who call upon Your name and trust in Your Word and are led by Your Spirit around the world.   “And this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to His will He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of Him” (1 John 5:14-15).   So let us not pray according to the will of the world, but according to the will of God. Let us knot pray for peace as defined by the world, but let us pray for peace according to the heart of God defined by the Word of God. Then “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard (our) hearts and (our) minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. “Terrify No More!” - October 9, 2023, 2023

 

Morning by Morning, October 9, 2023 - “Terrify No More!”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are my Rock and my Refuge, my Cornerstone and Coming King (Psalm 18). I listen for Your leading as I seek to begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ...   “The Lord is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land. You hear, O Lord, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, defending the fatherless and the oppressed, in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more” (Psalm 10:16-18 NIV).   As Israel celebrated the Feast of Tabernacles, rockets began to rain down terror in waves of indiscriminate horror on civilian homes. Women and children and the elderly were kidnapped and taken hostage. Hundreds upon hundreds of Jewish people were murdered in moments of genocidal rage by racist terrorists.   We pray for a day when they will “terrify no more.”   King Jesus--Messiah of Israel and all nations of the earth--come in Your justice and Your mercy. Hear the cries of the afflicted, the fatherless, and the oppressed. Come set things right. Set the captives free and heal the brokenhearted (Isaiah 61). Even use what has happened to open the eyes of the world to the terror the people of Israel face every day.   Terror is never justified. The slaughter of the innocent is always evil.   Yet terror will not have the final word and evil will not have the final say. We don’t give in to a passive mentality that says “Whatever will be will be.” No, we take up the weapons of our warfare to fight in the Spirit by the leading of Your Holy Spirit in this spiritual battle of good and evil being manifested before our eyes (2 Corinthians 10:3-5). We fight this battle, we “fight the good fight of the faith,” on our knees in prayer and with our voices in faith (1 Timothy 6:12).   As we fight, as we pray, we take our stand with You for Israel. We pray You would be a “Wall of Fire” of her protection, her vindication, and her restoration. “For I,’ says the Lord, ‘will be a Wall of Fire all around her, and I will be the Glory in her midst’” (Zechariah 2:5).   “Behold, He who keeps Israel shall never slumber nor sleep” (Psalm 121:4). With Your Spirit in our hearts as we pray, we obey Your command and answer Your call to “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem” (Palm 122:6). We pray for the peace of God, the shalom of God, to cover all the people of that land and fill the hearts of all the people, whether Jew or Gentile, Israeli or Palestinian, even Iranian or Syrian, as You move to turn every heart to You as Messiah and King of all the earth.   We know from Your Word that horrific and evil events will occur on this earth before Your return. Both good and evil, the seeds of wickedness and the seeds of righteousness, will come to full maturity; but even that is preparation for the great “harvest” of souls at “the end of the age” (Matthew 13:39).   So let us be found faithful in our prayers for good to prevail and righteousness to come. Even cause this evil that has happened to work together for good (Romans 8:28) so that in the end, “All Israel will be saved” (Romans 11:26).   Between this day and that day to come, come into that land as a Warrior and Defender, a Rescuer and Father to set things right in the righteousness of God that only You can do. Remind us that our true battle is not “against flesh and blood,” not even against wicked people and leaders of nations that would carry out their evil actions of terror and cruelty to seek to destroy a nation. But that our true battle is “against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).   As we express our grief and sorrow, our shock and anger, at all that has happened and may yet happen, as we continue to pray and fight the good fight of the faith on our knees and through our authority in Christ on behalf of all people of this land and every land, let us remember “the battle belongs to the Lord!” (1 Samuel 17:47) And our God will always prevail (Isaiah 46:10). One day to come, this Word will be fulfilled, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” (Revelation 11:15) In Jesus’ name I pray. Celebration of Joy on the Last Day of the Feast of Tabernacles - October 6, 2023

 

Morning by Morning, October 6 - Celebration of Joy on the Last Day of the Feast of Tabernacles   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Looking to You, I begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ...   “On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.   “Therefore many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said, ‘Truly this is the Prophet.’ Others said, ‘This is the Christ!’” (Luke 7:37-40).   Those Words that You spoke on the last day of the feast were spoken during the Feast of Tabernacles. On the rhythms of the Biblical Calendar, today is now the final day of Feast of Tabernacles--in many ways a feast of joy for the season of harvest. It’s also a time of celebration of joy for the protection and provision of God for the Israelites, as they traveled through the wilderness in their tabernacles of tents desperately dependent upon God alone (Leviticus 23:39-43). A time to “rejoice before the Lord” as we remember what God has done and look forward with expectant faith for all God will do! (v.40)   Those Words You spoke were also a fulfillment of the words of the Prophet Isaiah, declaring the joy of our salvation through the coming of the Messiah, the One who is the Living Water of God! Though it’s a long Scripture, I sense Your pleasure that I would declare Your Word in the anointing of Your Spirit over my life and out into the spiritual atmosphere of my home and community this morning on this significant spiritual day:   “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, ​​Come to the waters; ​​And you who have no money, ​​Come, buy and eat. ​​Yes, come, buy wine and milk ​​Without money and without price. 2 ​​Why do you spend money for what is not bread, ​​And your wages for what does not satisfy? ​​Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, ​​And let your soul delight itself in abundance. 3 ​​Incline your ear, and come to Me. ​​Hear, and your soul shall live; ​​And I will make an everlasting covenant with you— ​​The sure mercies of David. 4 ​​Indeed I have given him as a witness to the people, ​​A leader and commander for the people. 5 ​​Surely you shall call a nation you do not know, ​​And nations who do not know you shall run to you, ​​Because of the LORD your God, ​​And the Holy One of Israel; ​​For He has glorified you.” ​ 6 ​​Seek the LORD while He may be found, ​​Call upon Him while He is near. 7 ​​Let the wicked forsake his way, ​​And the unrighteous man his thoughts; ​​Let him return to the LORD, ​​And He will have mercy on him; ​​And to our God, ​​For He will abundantly pardon. ​ 8 ​​“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, ​​Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. 9 ​​“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, ​​So are My ways higher than your ways, ​​And My thoughts than your thoughts. ​ 10 ​​“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, ​​And do not return there, ​​But water the earth, ​​And make it bring forth and bud, ​​That it may give seed to the sower ​​And bread to the eater, 11 ​​So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; ​​It shall not return to Me void, ​​But it shall accomplish what I please, ​​And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. ​ 12 ​​“For you shall go out with joy, ​​And be led out with peace; ​​The mountains and the hills ​​Shall break forth into singing before you, ​​And all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. 13 ​​Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree, ​​And instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; ​​And it shall be to the LORD for a name, ​​For an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off” (Isaiah 55:1-13).   Yes, Lord! On this day and every day, fill our hearts with joy, as we celebrate all You have done and look forward to all You will do until the joy of the day of the Final Harvest to come! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. “Looking Unto Jesus,” Let the Kingdom Come! - October 5, 2023

 

Morning by Morning, October 5 - “Looking Unto Jesus,” Let the Kingdom Come!   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Looking to You, I’m listening to follow Your leading. ...   “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:1-2).   Cheered on by those who have gone before us in our faith, let us take up their mantles, let us stand on their shoulders, let us honor their legacies, as we now run our race in our generation toward the finish line of “the times of restoration of all things” (Hebrews 11:1-40; Acts 3:21). As we continue to pray, continue to worship, continue to war against the kingdoms of darkness and the kingdoms of this world, all by the power of Your grace and moving of Your Spirit, we will see Your Kingdom come and Your will be done, as Your Kingdom keeps breaking into our world, “on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10).   We’re to run this race of faith so as to win the prize (1 Corinthians 9:24). And You are our Prize! That’s why we run our race with our eyes on You--“looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith!” (Hebrews 12:2)   So give us the grace to keep laying aside every weight that would weigh us down and every sin that would trip us up (Hebrews 12:1). Stir in our spirits to get up and move! To run for the Prize and win!   We win when allow You to make us like You. For as we run this race of faith, You use everything we endure and overcome to make us more like You. To be conformed into the image of the Son of God (Romans 8:29). To be transformed in the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). To be changed into Your image from glory to glory as we look to You and behold Your glory (2 Corinthians 3:18). For as You are, so are we to become (1 John 4:17). “Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is” (1 John 3:2). “Now we do not yet see all things put under Him. (Ephesians 5:25-27; Isaiah 62:5; Revelation 19:7) Like a soon and coming King coming to rule and reign in all the authority of His domain as King of Kings and Lord of Lords! (Revelation 19:16) Like the full manifestation of the Promise of Your Word when our race is run and Your Words are fulfilled--“The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” (Revelation 11:15)   Yes, Lord! As we keep running our race, looking to You, laying aside the weights and the sins and everything that’s anything less than Your character in our lives, let Your Kingdom come! Let Your will be done!
