Morning by Morning, October 3, 2024 - The Feast of Trumpets Fulfilled in Jesus   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Arise in my heart and in every moment of my day. ...   “Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ‘Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work on it; and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord’” (Leviticus 23:23-25).   On the Biblical Calendar, we’ve entered into the Feast of Trumpets in these Ten Days of Awe between the Feast of Trumpets and the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 23:27).   The sounding of the trumpets speaks of joy, leading into this ten-day time of reflection and repentance, introspection and intimately listening in sabbath-rest for correction and conviction before the Day of Atonement. And at the same, there is to be “an offering of fire made to the Lord.”   Lord Jesus, You are the ultimate fulfillment of every feast, every prophesy, every law of the Old Covenant (Matthew 5:17). Everything written of the people of Israel throughout their journey is also intended to speak to us as prophetic examples of our relationship with You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God.  As Your Word teaches us, “All these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come” (1 Corinthians 10:11).   On this day, during this time, sound the Trumpet of Your Voice in my spirit. Draw me near to You in deeper surrender, waiting in rest before You, listening for Your leading, embracing Your correction, and preparing my heart in trusting repentance in honor of all You have done for me. You are my Atonement -- “the Atoning Sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world” (1 John 2:2). You are “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29).   So with the Fire of Your Spirit burning in my heart, let the Sound of Your Voice arise like a Trumpet in my spirit. Your sheep hear Your Voice (John 10:27). Your children are led by Your Spirit (Romans 8:14). And we find our sabbath-rest in You alone (Hebrews 4:9).   Lord, let it be so in me -- this day, through these ten Days of Awe, and throughout the days You’ve set before me on my journey with You. And I look forward to the day “the last trumpet” will sound! (1 Corinthians 15:52) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, October 2 - We Stand in Awe of our God Who is the “Wall of Fire” Around Jerusalem   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Ever-faithful One, Never-failing One, You are our Rock and Refuge--for me and for all who call on Your name to be saved, safe, and secure in You (Psalm 18:1-3; Acts 2:21) . ...   Yesterday on Tuesday October 1, 2024, the regime of Iran fired nearly 200 ballistic missiles toward the major cities of Israel in what would have devasted major population centers of innocent lives. We stand in shock. And at the same time, we stand in awe of You and Your hand of protection. As I understand from the current reports, there were zero casualties from this overwhelming barrage of missiles. This Scripture came immediately to mind as the dust settled and the people of Israel were released to come out from their bomb shelters:   “‘For I,’ says the Lord, ‘will be a Wall of Fire all around (Jerusalem), and I will be the Glory in her midst’” (Zechariah 2:5).   The weapons Israel deployed for her defense -- the Iron Dome, the David’s Sling, the Arrow -- along with intercepting missiles of two American Navy destroyers -- were the physical means of Your supernatural protection. These natural weapons of warfare defense, as ingenious and effective as they were, would have fallen far short of such an overwhelming assault with such catastrophic intent of destruction apart from You and You hand over the people of that nation. “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds” (2 Corinthians 10:4). “No weapon formed against you shall prosper” (Isaiah 54:17).   We stand in awe of You. You are the “Wall of Fire” around her. You are the “Glory” of God within her. May the eyes of the world see what You have done. May the hearts of the world be open to receive the One who has done this.   On the Biblical Calendar marking the seasons and festivals of Scripture which carry prophetic significance for all generations, tonight at sundown begins the Ten Days of Awe. These days of introspection, repentance, and returning to You in faith mark the ten days between the Feast of Trumpets and the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 23:24-34). “Be in awe and know that I Am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted throughout the earth” (Psalm 46:10).   “Wall of Fire,” God of “Glory,” I stand in awe of You. And at the same time, I pray as never before “In Jesus’ name, I pray as You have commanded “for the peace of Jerusalem” (Psalm 122) and for all the people of that land and this world to know the One who is our Peace (Isaiah 9:6; Ephesians 2:14). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, September 27, 2024 - “Go!” and “Make Disciples”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are with me now and always, just as You said (Matthew 28:20). So I embrace You and Your Presence, here in my heart and in every moment of my day. ...   You spoke of  Your Presence with us “always” in Your last words to Your first disciples as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew:   “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age’” (Matthew 28:18-20).   With Your authority, You send us with authority to “Go” and “make disciples,” bringing others in Your kingdom, into Your family, and “teaching them” of Your kingdom and their place in Your family in the authority of Your name and the character of Your heart. As many have noted, the first letters of the “Gospel” spell “Go!”   Our faith is not a passive faith. Our calling is not a hesitant, reluctant, bashful or shy, lazy or complacent calling. It’s alive and active, passionate and zealous, filled with expectant faith about seeing Your Word by Your Spirit make a difference in our world.   Just as with Your first disciples, it’s a faith and calling that’s meant by You to make a difference as we make disciples, until the world around us is “crying out, ‘These who have turned the world upside down have come here too!” (Acts 17:6)   What do You want to turn upside down in my world today, Lord? What do You want to turn upside down in my own heart, in my own attitudes, in my own perspective today, Lord? ...   I’m one of Your disciples. You’ve filled me with faith, called me by name, and sent me to “Go” and “make disciples” in my world. Unite me with Your Spirit and Your other disciples You’ve brought into my life in relationship with me--right here, right now, everywhere You’ll send me in every day I have left in this world--to “Go” and make a difference and see my world turned upside down in the power and authority of Your love and Your name. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, September 26, 2024 - “I Will Lift Up My Eyes to the Hills”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Let the Light of Your Glory arise in my heart today. ...   We’re blessed to live in what’s called “the Texas Hill Country” out west of Austin and northwest of San Antonio in a little community along the Pedernales River Valley called Fredericksburg. There are no mountains here, but there are hills and valleys. And they make for spectacular views at sunrise and sunset. This morning, I was just taking in the view and remembering Your Word of looking up to the hills, and personalizing it to myself:   “I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? 2 My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. 3 He will not allow (my) foot to be moved; He who keeps (me) will not slumber. 4 Behold, He who keeps (me) Shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The Lord is (me) keeper; The Lord is (my) shade at (my) right hand. 6 The sun shall not strike (me) by day, Nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord shall preserve (me) from all evil; He shall preserve (my) soul. 8 The Lord shall preserve (my) going out and (my) coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore” (Psalm 121:1-8).   Yes, Lord. “I will lift up my eyes to the hills.” ...   You are my Helper and my Keeper, the Maker of heaven and earth and in the middle of every moment of my day. I lift up my eyes to “the hills” which speak of Your Presence--high in the earth, high in my heart, high above all that would weigh me down or hold me back from all You’ve created me to be and all You have for me today.   Your Spirit brings to mind another invitation from Your Word to look up to the hill of Your Presence:   “The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. 2 For He has founded it upon the seas, And established it upon the waters. 3 Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? 4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully. 5 He shall receive blessing from the Lord, And righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6 This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face. Selah” (Psalm 24:1-6).   I seek Your face as I look up to Your hills this morning. Cleanse my hands and purify my heart. Let nothing but You be lifted up in my heart, as You are lifted up before me now and throughout the moments of my day. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
