Morning by Morning, October 11 - Honorable

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Come into my heart and my thoughts and every moment of my day.  ...

"Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation" (1 Peter 2:11-12 NKJV).

By the power of Your grace at work within me, I want to be a more honorable man -- a man who honors You, who honors my family, who honors all You've entrusted to me as a citizen of Heaven, a son of God, and an ambassador of Christ. "Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us:  we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him" (2 Corinthians 5:20-12).

Sanctify my tongue so that my words are more honorable. Purify my heart so that my desires are more honorable. Crucify my flesh so that my actions are more honorable. Bring my ways into alignment with Your will so that my life honors You in all things -- as best as I can and all by Your grace. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

I pray your life will honor God and all will see you are honored by Him as a beloved child and faithful disciple, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, October 7 - "Rich in Good Works, Generous, and Ready to Share"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I want to start my day deliberately inviting You into the center of my heart and at the front of my mind.  ...

"As for those who in the present age are rich, command them not to be haughty, or to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but rather on God who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, generous, and ready to share, thus storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of the life that really is life" (1 Timothy 6:17-19).

Compared with ninety-nine percent of the world, I'm sure I'm considered "rich" in Your eyes -- as well as just about everyone I know. We have food and shelter and more than we need almost all the time. You "richly provide us with everything for (our necessities and even for) our enjoyment."

And at the same time, You're not comparing me with anyone else. You're looking into my heart and invite me to do the same. You invite me to ask myself if I have a desire and the power to "do good, to be rich in good works, generous, and ready to share." And You invite me to consider how well I'm stewarding my heart and these resources You've entrusted to me.

Have I been "storing up for (myself) the treasure of a good foundation for the future? Have I been "(taking) hold of the life that really is life" or taking hold of things far less generous and setting my hopes on things far more uncertain?

"The good person out of the good treasure of the heart produces good..." (Luke 6:45). Come, Holy Spirit. Come be at work in my heart, giving me good desires in alignment with the heart of my good God. Give me the desire and empower me with opportunities to "do good, and to be rich in good works, generous, and ready to share" today. Let me be a good steward, a faithful son, and a fruitful disciple with the "good treasure" You've entrusted to me. Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

I pray our generous God will pour out His blessings upon you and richly provide you with everything you need and even enjoy to allow His blessings to flow through your life today, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, October 6 - We Are What We Think

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind and Your desires in my heart, as You lead me in the way that leads to life in You today.  ...

"As he thinks in his heart, so is he" (Proverbs 23:7 NKJV).

Lord, let the thoughts of my heart be right. "There is a way that seems right to a person, but its end is the way of death" (Proverbs 14:12). So align my heart with Your heart and align my mind with Your mind, so that my thoughts and my desires align with Your will and Your way of life.

How to I do that, Lord?  ...

It seems I hear You saying, "By asking and by believing. Ask Me to shape your heart and your mind, your desires and your thoughts. Then believe that I Am."

Yes, Lord. I know it's a process. Your Word says I'm transformed by the renewing of my mind (Romans 12:2). And Your Word invites me to embrace "the mind of Christ" (1 Corinthians 2:16). As You are, so am I to be in this world (1 John 4:17). "We know the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life" (1 John 5:120).

So I know this is Your will for me -- for my heart and for my mind. And I can trust in Your promise that "this is the boldness we have in (You), that if we ask anything according to (Your) will, (You) hear us. And if we know that (You) hear us in whatever we ask, we know that we have obtained the requests made of (You)" (1 John 5:14-15).

By the grace of God, in response to Your invitation, I am asking and I am believing. As I think in my heart, so will I be. So as I begin each day thinking in my heart with the thoughts You've put in mind and the desires You've put in my heart, You will be making me more like You each day (Romans 8:29). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

I pray you will become what you think, as you allow God to put His thoughts in your mind and His desires in your heart, to make you more like Jesus each day, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, October 5 - "Steadfast in the Faith"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I welcome You here at the center of my heart and the beginning of my day. Let me live and move and have my being in You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  ...

"And you who were once estranged and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, He has now reconciled in His fleshly body through death, so as to present you holy and blameless and irreproachable before Him -- provided that you continue securely established and steadfast in the faith, without shifting from the hope promised by the gospel that you hearted, which ahs been proclaimed to every creature under heaven" (Colossians 1:21-23).

By the power of the grace of God, You've begun a good work in me. And You will be faithful to complete it (Philippians 1:6). So by that same grace, I need that same power at work within me each day to "continue securely established and steadfast in the faith."

I started well the day I welcomed You into my heart. I want to finish well. And every day in between, I want to live well. I want to "walk in newness of life" by welcoming the One who is the Source and Sustainer of my life to walk with me in my heart each day (Romans 6:4).

I will be "steadfast in the faith" as I "hold fast to the confession of (my) hope without wavering, for He who has promised is faithful" (Hebrews 10:23). O Lord, my God -- my Lord and Savior -- You are so faithful to me. By the power of the grace of God, empower me to be faithful to You this day. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

I pray you will live well and hold fast to the confession of your hope, as you walk in newness of life by the power of the grace of God at work within you today, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, October 3 - Power and Wisdom

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Awake me to seek You. Ignite my soul with a flash of the fire of Your Presence. Let me hear what You're saying and see where You're leading, as I begin my day with You in the communion of prayer.  ...

"For Jews demand signs and Greeks desire wisdom, but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and wisdom of God.

Lord Jesus, You are the power and the wisdom of God. And whether we struggle with a need to see miracles of power to trust and believe in You or whether we struggle with a need to have it all explained and explored with scientific precision before we choose to put our hope and faith in You, You keep reaching out to us all. "For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God" (v. 1:18). And it's Your heart to save us all and embrace each one, no matter our struggle. "For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and is generous to all who call on Him. For, 'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved'" (Romans 10:12-13).

So rather than demanding and desiring what I want and what I think I need, I choose to humble my heart before the One who knows me better than any other, before the One who knows the best and wants the best for me every day. And all along the journey and adventure of my faith in You, I'll see more of Your power and grow in more of Your wisdom -- not because You have to keep proving Yourself to me, but because I believe in my heart and confess with my mouth that You already have -- once and for all -- at the cross of Christ (Romans 10:0).
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

I pray you will see the power and experience the wisdom of our God in your journey and adventure of faith in Him, in Jesus' name. And even on the days where you feel you especially need a touch of His power and a measure of His widow, I pray Your faith will be made even stronger, as You choose to keep trusting Him no matter what. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, September 30 - Mountain-moving Faith

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I worship You in spirit and truth -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  ...

"Have faith in God. Truly I tell you, if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and thrown into the sea,' and if you do not doubt in your heart, but believe that what you say will come to pass, it will be done for you. So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours" (Mark 11:22-24).

Your Word commands me to "have faith in God." And Your Word invites me to exercise my faith in You with my words and without my doubts. As You remove the doubts from my heart, I can move the mountains in my life. It will come to pass; it will be done for me.

Lord, these are Your words, not mine. These are Your promises and principles, not mine. So teach me how to grow in this dimension of my journey of faith. You taught me much about persevering faith and the grace to get through the valleys. Also teach me about mountain-moving faith that speaks with authority and expectancy, ground in Your Word, Your promises, and Your principles, I pray.

Help me expect more. Help me experience more. With both humility and authority, help me grow in the confidence of knowing my identity as a child of God and living into my destiny as a disciple of Jesus Christ -- as best as I can and all by Your grace. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

I pray you will grow in faith and confidence in our God and His Word to move the mountains in your life with both humility and authority, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, September 29 - The Best is Yet to Come!

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be with me at the beginning of my day and every moment after.  ...

"What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the human heart conceived, what God has prepared for those who love Him" (1 Corinthians 2:9).

I love You and I'm looking forward to see what You have prepared for me today. With my life and my days in Your hands, I can always say, as I begin each day, the best is yet to come. With my path entrusted to Your purpose for my life, I can trust in Your promise every day that "the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day" (Proverbs 4:18). And I thank You and all Your mercy and grace for me that it's not on the basis of my righteousness, but Yours, that my feet and my future are set on this path.

I can look back on yesterday and every day of the past season to see You were faithful to bring me through every battle -- healing my wounds, breaking my chains, forgiving my sins, cleaning up my mess, and restoring my soul. I can also admit, only by the grace of God, that You even touched a few lives through my life -- as messy as it was -- all along the way. And it gives me faith to look forward to tomorrow and the next season ahead, excited to see what will yet unfold. "Let (my) eyes look directly forward, and (my) gaze be straight before (me). Keep straight the path of (my) feet, and all (my) ways will be sure" in You (Proverbs 4:25-26). And by the grace of God I know in my heart the best is yet to come. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

I pray you will know in your heart the best is yet to come, in Jesus' name. Your eyes haven't seen, your haven't heard, neither has it entered into your heart all the good that our God has planned for you! Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, September 27 - Hillary and Donald Are Not Our Hope

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Rule and reign as Lord and Savior in my heart and my life today.  ...

"Is not this the fast that I choose:
to loose the bonds of injustice,
to undo the thongs of the yoke,
to let the oppressed to free,
and to break every yoke?
Is it not to share your bread with the hungry,
and bring the homeless poor into your house;
when you see the naked, to cover them,
and not to hide yourself from your own kin?
Then your light shall break forth like the dawn,
and your healing shall spring up quickly;
your vindicator shall go before you,
the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.
Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer;
you shall cry for help, and He will say, Here I Am.
If you remove the yoke from among you,
the pointing of the finger, the speaking of evil,
if you offer your food to the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the afflicted,
then your light shall rise in the darkness
and your gloom be like the noonday.
The Lord will guide you continually,
and satisfy your needs in parched places,
and make your bones strong;
and you shall be like a watered garden,
like a spring of water,
whose waters never fail.
Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt;
you shall raise up the foundations of many generation;
you shall be called the repairer of the breach,
the restorer of streets to live in" (Isaiah 58:6-12).

Hillary and Donald can argue all they want. And it's our responsibility to discern and to judge, with the right and the privilege we have, to vote the choice we make. At the same time, our nation will not be judged by the leader we choose in Washington as much as by the way we lead our lives as a nation from our hearts. "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats..." (Matthew 25:31-46).

One day, You'll come to judge the earth, but every day before that day to come, You invite me to judge my own heart and the heart of my nation (John 7:24). Every day, You invite me to humble my heart and pray, to turn to You and embrace Your heart and Your ways in my heart and on behalf of my nation (2 Chronicles 7:14). And every day You invite us to remember the promise of Your Word, "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.... Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, just as we hope in You" (Psalm 33:12-22 NKJV).

We can thank You, O Lord our God, that Hillary and Donald are not our Hope, but You are. Let Your mercy be upon us, as we hope in You. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

I join with you in prayer for our hearts and the heart of our nation to embrace the heart of our God, as we hope in Him, in Jesus' name. God bless you, my friend!
