Listen to His Voice “Today” - May 24, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, May 24 - Listen to His Voice “Today” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Lead me today in Your way -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ... “O that today you would listen to His voice! Do not harden your hearts ...” (Psalm 95:7). I’m listening, Lord. The opposite of listening is hardening our hearts. The less we listen, the harder our hearts become, the more “hard” of hearing we become. But the more we listen, the more we hear, the softer our hearts become. It’s in the listening that we can follow Your leading. “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God” (Romans 8:14). “The sheep hear His voice. He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out.... The sheep follow Him because they know His voice” (John 10:3-4). Some say, “You can’t expect to hear the voice of God every day.” But that’s not what You say. That’s not what Your Word says. Your Word says, “O that today you would listen to His voice!” How often is “today?” I’m pretty sure it’s every day. And You speak to us in millions of different ways -- when we hear Your voice in our hearts, when You highlight a verse in Your written Word, when You impress upon us a sense of Your leading by Your living word, when You open the eyes of our heart to see what You’re doing with images or visions or our sanctified imagination, when we sense the peace that surpasses all understanding as we seek Your confirmation of our decisions, when the joy of Your pleasure bubbles up in our spirit, when our hearts are pierced with the conviction of sin, when we tremble with the fear of the Lord in the Presence of the Lord, or when we tremble with delight in the Presence of the Lord, and so many other way You speak and we listen. What a gift we have to be known by name and called by name! What an invitation we have to come draw near to You every day -- including “today” -- to listen to Your voice! As it turns out, that’s not psychotic, presumptuous, or prideful -- it’s just plain old obedience to the Word of God: “O that today you would listen to His voice!”  And as I listen right now, what I sense in my heart is the pleasure of Your voice, saying, “Well done, My son. Well said. Well heard. You keep listening and I will keep leading.” ... Yes, Lord. As best as I can and all by Your grace, I’ll keep listening and keep seeking to follow Your leading. He Sends Out His Word Through Us! - May 21, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, May 21 - He Sends Out His Word Through Us! Good morning, Lord Jesus! Come arise in my heart with “the Spirit of Christ” to make me more like You today in all I am and all I do by the power of Your grace (Romans 8:9). ... “Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,     and He saved them from their distress; He sent out His word and healed them,     and delivered them from destruction. Let them thank the Lord for His steadfast love,     for His wonderful works to humankind” (Psalm 107:19-21). O Lord, I’m amazed by the power of Your word! You send out Your word to save and heal and deliver. You send out Your word to convict and strengthen and equip. You send out Your word to comfort and encourage and love. When we humble ourselves to cry out You, You come in the power of Your mercy and grace and love to help us and heal us and free us. I thank You and praise You for Your wonderful works and Your mighty word! And at the same time, I’m amazed that in Your sovereignty and authority, You even entrust Your word to us, to send out Your words through us -- as sons and daughters of our Father God, as disciples and followers of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It’s almost too amazing to be true that You would value us and trust us that much. Yet it’s true. As Your Word declares: “So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us. So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making His appeal through us...” (2 Corinthians 5:17-20). Astounding! Amazing! Almost incomprehensible! “We are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making His appeal through us!” You send forth Your word to save and heal and deliver, to convict and encourage and equip, to comfort and encourage and love through us! And You confirm Your heart and will to do this through us in this nearly unfathomable Word of Your Scripture of Your desire to speak Your word and send out Your word through us: “Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received. Whoever speaks must do so as one speaking the very words of God; whoever serves must do so with the strength that God supplies, so that God may be glorified in all things through Jesus Christ. To Him belong the glory and the power forever and ever!” (1 Peter 4:10-11) You’re glorified when we obey You to be Your ambassadors. You’re glorified when we walk in the gifts You’ve entrusted to each of us with the grace and strength You supply. It’s all for Your glory, not ours. And it’s all in Your will and Your way, not ours. But it’s all according to Your masterful plan of how You display Your glory through our lives when we entrust our lives completely to You: “But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that it may be made clear that this extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from us.... But just as we have the same Spirit of faith that is in accordance with Scripture -- ‘I believed, and so I spoke’ -- we also believe, and so we speak, because we know that the One who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus, and will bring us with you into His presence. Yes, everything is for your sake, so that grace, as it extends to more and more people, may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God!” (2 Corinthians 4:7-15) Increase thanksgiving in our hearts today! Let Your word go out. Let Your will be done on earth as it is heaven -- all by You, but also, amazingly, astonishingly, by You through us! Let us not waste a moment or despise our inheritance or dishonor our birthright as sons and daughters of our Father God. You’re still sending out Your word. And You’re still being glorified as You send out Your word and Your love -- all in the power of Your grace -- through us! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! “Like-Minded” with “One Mind and One Mouth” - May 20, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, May 20 “Like-Minded” with “One Mind and One Mouth” Good morning, Lord Jesus. I’m listening and waiting for Your leading -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ... “Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:5-6). So much of Your church seems double-minded instead of like-minded. We seem so divided instead of united. Rather than one voice, our voice is cracked and shattered so that we’re far from being one mouth with one heart of the like minds that glorifies the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. On so many of the issues of the day -- standing with Israel, speaking up for the sacredness of life, the sanctity of marriage, personal identity determined by God instead of the feelings of people or the pressures of society, praying to be a nation under God, resisting compromise with the progressive ways of a world daily accelerating in its progression away from the authority of Scripture until everyone just does what’s right their own eyes according to their own desires -- we are so divided and double-minded as Your church and Your voice in our world. As Your church, we must learn to hear and speak from the spirit rather than the soul. From our spirit abiding in communion and worship and humility with Your Holy Spirit, our spirit can then direct the mind and will and emotions of our soul. We’ll be spiritual rather than soulish. We’ll be Spirit-led rather than led by the world, the flesh, and the devil. And then “the body of Christ” will manifest “the mind of Christ” on earth as it is in heaven (1 Corinthians 12:7 and 2:16). Then we’ll be filled and led by “the Spirit of Christ” to think with one mind and speak with one mouth (Romans 8:9). Just as a person can be more soulish than spiritual, so can the church as a whole. And right now, as a whole, the church seems much more soulish than spiritual, more carnal and fleshly than holy and pure. Right now, as a whole, we are far from being Your radiant bride and “glorious church not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing” but rather being “holy and without blemish” (Ephesians 5:27). So we desperately need to be “transformed by the renewing of our mind” and no longer “conformed to this world” (Romans 12:2). Come help us, Holy Spirit. Make us more like Jesus (1 John 4:17). Let us reflect the light of the glory of the Son of God as we look to the Lord instead of looking to the world for our guidance and acceptance (1 Corinthians 3:18). Let us be children of our Father in heaven rather than looking like and sounding like and speaking like children of “the ruler of this world” (John 12:31). As You confronted those who claimed to speak on behalf of God but were so deceived and confused by exalting their own thoughts and their own ways, that they were speaking and influencing Your people in the very opposite direction, You called them out, declaring, “You are of your father the devil and your will is to do your father’s desires” (John 8:44). Lord, deliver us from this darkness and double-mindedness. For the “double-minded” are “unstable in every way” and “must not expect to receive anything from the Lord” (James 1:7-8). As You said, “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand” (Matthew 12:25). Father God, heal our divisions as we humble ourselves to seek Your face and hear Your voice. You alone can unite us in true unity rather than false unity, to be a voice of truth in our world instead of clanging symbol or noisy gong just going along in the progression of our world until we become just like our world. Give us grace to be salt that has not lost its saltiness and light that has not dimmed (Matthew 5:13).  With one mind speaking with one voice, united in Your Spirit, we are to be “the light of the world” and we will “let (our) light shine before others to that they may see (our) good works (and hear Your good words through our humble hearts and obedient mouths) and give glory to (our) Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16). In Jesus name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! “In All the World!” - May 19, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, May 19 - “In All the World!” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind, Your desires in my heart, and Your words in my mouth. Make me more like You today (1 John 4:17). ... “And this Gospel of the Kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come” (Matthew 24:14). I’m excited to preaching into Pakistan through our internet ministry in a little while this morning. And I thank You, Lord, for the honor and opportunity to speak Your words of spirit and life and truth into the hearts of a people You’ve prepared by Your Holy Spirit to hear the Good News! Would You confirm Your word with salvation, healing, deliverance, and revival in the ways only You can do! “And they went out and proclaimed the Good News everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that accompanied it!” (Mark 16:20). Thank You, Lord, for redeeming the internet, for causing all things to work together for good (Romans 8:28). Thank You for taking back the airwaves from the so-called “prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2). Thank You that there’s no limitation of time or space in the spiritual realm when You send forth Your word and Your power to save and heal and deliver in the authority of Your name (Psalm 107:20; Luke 7:10; Matthew 15:28) Come, Holy Spirit. Move in power. Reveal the Father’s love. Display the Son’s glory. Let this Gospel of the Kingdom be proclaimed with mercy and grace, power and love, here in our hearts, here in our land, and to the ends of the earth. Fulfill Your Prophetic Word in our days: “The earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea!” (Habakkuk 2:14) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
