Our Gift Remains - December 27, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, December 27 - Our Gift Remains Good morning, Lord Jesus. I seek Your face and listen for Your voice, heart to Heart and spirit to Spirit to begin my day intentionally focused on You. ... “On entering the house, (the wise men) saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they knelt down and paid Him homage. Then, opening their treasure chests, they offered Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh” (Matthew 2:11). The wise men brought You gifts at Your birth. And You have given us Your gifts at our rebirth in Christ -- the gifts of eternal life, forgiveness of sins, healing and freedom, love and peace and joy. And the greatest Gift of all, the Gift of Your ever-abiding Presence, here in our hearts forever with You. Emmanuel, God with us (Matthew 1:23). In a sense, the gifts of the wise men may speak of aspects of Your nature as our Lord and Savior. Gold was precious and valuable, sought after and cherished, speaking of the glory of Your Presence. Frankincense was offered by the priests in the temple, lifted up to God in prayer, speaking of Your place as our High Priest and filling the temple of our hearts with Your Spirit. Myrrh was used in the anointing process for burial, speaking of Your sacrifice for us when You laid down Your life for us at the cross that we could live our resurrected life in You. The wise men travelled home, having paid their homage and honor to You. But their gifts remained. And so do the gifts You’ve given us. So does the greatest Gift You’ve given us. Our Gift remains. Just as You promised, “Remain in Me, and I in you” (John 15:4 NASB). “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! “Let’s Go to Bethlehem!” - December 23, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, December 23 - “Let’s Go to Bethlehem!” Good morning, Lord Jesus. O come let us adore, You -- Christ the Lord. ... “When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let us go now to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.’ So they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Child lying in the manger. When they saw this, they made known what had been told them about this Child; and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them” (Luke 2:15-18). When the angels announced Your birth in Bethlehem to the shepherds, their hearts leapt with excitement and anticipation. “Let’s go to Bethlehem!” they said -- maybe even chanted. And “they went with haste.” Let it be the things of God that stir our hearts. Let it be the excitement and anticipation of things of Your kingdom that move us with passion. Let it be the joy of Jesus and the amazing grace of Your goodness -- Your “good news of great joy” -- that motivates us to make known all that You are and all that You’ve done for every one of us. “Let’s go to Bethlehem!” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! Christ is Born in Us and We’re Born Again in Christ - December 22, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, December 22 - Christ is Born in Us and We’re Born Again in Christ Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are the Word made Flesh. And I welcome Your Word here in my heart, to ponder and pray Your Word in my heart today. ... “And (Mary) gave birth to her firstborn Son and wrapped Him in bands of cloth, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn” (Luke 2:7). Mary opened her womb to Your Holy Spirit, that You could come into this world as Lord and Savior to be born in her. Her response to Your invitation through the angel was, “Let it be with me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). And just as Mary opened her womb, so You invite each one of us to open our hearts to Your Holy Spirit, that You may come into our world to be born in us as our personal Lord and Savior. You invite each of us to say to You, like Mary said to the angel, “Let it be with me according to Your Word.”  When we do, Your Holy Spirit enters our human spirits, as the heart of God comes into our hearts, so that we’re born by the Spirit to live “in the Spirit” instead of living in merely in our flesh, according to Your Word: “But you are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Him. But if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through His Spirit that dwells in you” (Romans 8:9-11). “Spirit of Christ,” be born in us -- be born in me and every heart that’s opened to You. When You’re born in us, we’re born again in You (John 3:3). And when we’re born again in You, You come and live Your life in our world through us. “When Christ who is (our) life is revealed, then (we) also will be revealed with Him in glory” (Colossians 3:4). “Christ in (us),” who is the Spirit of Christ in us, “the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). Born in me, I’m born again in You. Come shine with the Light of Your hope and Your glory through me today and every day. Let it be with me according to Your Word. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
