Morning by Morning, May 2 - “Unfailing Love” of God Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind and Your desires in my heart, as I seek Your face and listen for the leading of Your voice (John 10:27). ... The Word of the Lord through the Prophet Hosea comes to mind this morning: “Therefore, I am now going to allure her; I will lead her into the wilderness and speak tenderly to her” (Hosea 2:14). You were speaking of Your unfailing love. Even though Your people had rejected Your love and compromised their faith and even though they had turned to false gods and false idols instead of turning to You, You still loved them. You still pursued them. You even brought them into a place of “wilderness” through what they would suffer as the consequences of their choices so they could hear You “speak tenderly” to their hearts, so they could turn their hearts to You again. Much of the Book of this prophet is about Your calling to Hosea to be faithful and steadfast in unfailing love for his unfaithful wife as a prophetic picture of Your mercy and love for Your people. Despite the actions of Hosea’s wife and despite the actions of Your people, You always offered them “a door of hope” if they would return to You (Hosea 2:15). You said to Your people there would come a day of redemption and restoration, of forgiveness and mercy, despite all their sin and rebellion--not because they deserved it, but because You loved them and never stopped loving them no matter what. You said: “I will make you My wife forever, showing you righteousness and justice, unfailing love and compassion. I will be faithful to you and make you Mine, and you will finally know Me as the Lord” (Hosea 2:19-20 NLT). And these are Your words of unfailing love for every one of us, drawing us into Your heart and covenant of love for each of us. These are Your words for everyone whom You put on our hearts in our lives, praying they would come to know Your unfailing love for each of us--“For God so loved the world ...” (John 3:16). Keep turning my heart to You, Lord. Keep showing me Your “unfailing love and compassion,” when I don’t deserve it or fail to appreciate it. And I pray the same for the hearts of those I know who are running away from You, who are resisting You, who question and doubt You, who have not yet come to fully know You and Your “unfailing love and compassion” for them. “Let Your unfailing love surround us, Lord, for our hope is in You alone” (Psalm 33:22). “Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds” (Psalm 36:5). “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
