Morning by Morning, May 3 - “One Body” Moved to Pray with “One Heart and One Soul” in Our Communities for Our Nation and Our World Good morning, Lord Jesus. As You took time to get away for prayer when You walked this earth, so I take time to get away for prayer with You now--for prayer brings me into communion with You--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God (Mark 1:35). ... Yesterday, I joined a gathering for the National Day of Prayer out in the park at the center of our community to bow our hearts before You and lift up our voices to You. We came from different churches and different expressions of our Christian faith, but we were united in one Spirit in our prayer for our nation and community. We humbled ourselves to say we don’t know how to pray, but Your Spirit does, as You moved and interceded through us as Your church in our community (Romans 8:26-27). “For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and have all been made to drink of one Spirit. For in fact the body is not one member but many” (1 Corinthians 12:112-14). As much as Your Word speaks of the “many members” of “one body” in any particular local church, Your Word also speaks of the “many members” of “one body” of the city-wide church, the nation-wide church, the world-wide church. For we are one body in our world, throughout all our generations--past, present, and future. Together as one, we are “the body of Christ” (1 Corinthians 12:27) “There is one body and one Spirit, just as (we) were called in one hope of (our) calling; one Lord, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in (us) all” (Ephesians 4:4-6). Unite us in You, Lord. Free us from division, strife, jealousy, competition, criticism, judgment, resentment, self-righteousness, spiritual pride and arrogance, spiritual confusion and deception, and everything else that would seek to divide us instead of unite us with one heart for You--secure in our identity in You and fulfilling our destiny in You as Your body in our world. Fill us afresh with Your Holy Spirit! (Ephesians 5:18). Move through us again in the power of Your love that displays Your glory through Your body in our hearts, our communities, and our world. In the unity of Your people, You command Your blessing--“Life forever more!” (Psalm 133:1-3). As it was in the beginning of Your church, let it be ever more so in our day: “And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness. Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all” (Acts 4:31-33). Show us what that is to look like in our day, in our hearts, in our land, in our world. Unite us together as one in the Spirit and one in the Lord, that You may move in Your reviving, awakening power and love with “great power” and “great grace” in our day! We need You just as much today as ever. For You are same today as You were in the beginning of Your church--“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever!” (Hebrews 13:8). Come do it again, Lord Jesus--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God--here in us, here in our community, our nation, our world! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
