Our Gift Remains - December 27, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, December 27 - Our Gift Remains Good morning, Lord Jesus. I seek Your face and listen for Your voice, heart to Heart and spirit to Spirit to begin my day intentionally focused on You. ... “On entering the house, (the wise men) saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they knelt down and paid Him homage. Then, opening their treasure chests, they offered Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh” (Matthew 2:11). The wise men brought You gifts at Your birth. And You have given us Your gifts at our rebirth in Christ -- the gifts of eternal life, forgiveness of sins, healing and freedom, love and peace and joy. And the greatest Gift of all, the Gift of Your ever-abiding Presence, here in our hearts forever with You. Emmanuel, God with us (Matthew 1:23). In a sense, the gifts of the wise men may speak of aspects of Your nature as our Lord and Savior. Gold was precious and valuable, sought after and cherished, speaking of the glory of Your Presence. Frankincense was offered by the priests in the temple, lifted up to God in prayer, speaking of Your place as our High Priest and filling the temple of our hearts with Your Spirit. Myrrh was used in the anointing process for burial, speaking of Your sacrifice for us when You laid down Your life for us at the cross that we could live our resurrected life in You. The wise men travelled home, having paid their homage and honor to You. But their gifts remained. And so do the gifts You’ve given us. So does the greatest Gift You’ve given us. Our Gift remains. Just as You promised, “Remain in Me, and I in you” (John 15:4 NASB). “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today!
