Morning by Morning, November 1, 2024 - “The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Turning my attention to You, I wait for the leading of Your Spirit. ...   “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.... For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.... But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.... But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you” (Romans 8:1-2, 5, 9, 11).   Thank You for “the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus.” Thank You for giving me both the desire and the power to embrace this Law of Life, to let this Law be my way of Life.   It’s not so much a Law I have to live up to as it is a Law of Life that lives in me because Your Spirit lives in me--the very same Spirit that raised You from the dead. This is “the Spirit of Life” (v. 2), “the Spirit of God” (v. 9), “the Spirit of Christ” (v. 9), the Spirit who “dwells in (me)” and every one of us who open our hearts and entrust our lives to You (v. 9).   So as I begin my day, I consciously, deliberately, intentionally set my mind on “the things of the Spirit” instead of “the things of the flesh” (v. 5), to “walk” out the steps and moments of my day “according to the Spirit” rather than “according to the flesh” (v. 1). To “set (my) mind” is an active choice of my will, made by the power of Your grace that I choose to allow to motivate my will (v. 5).   Making that choice right here, right now in these first moments of my morning sets the course of my day in motion to “live according to the Spirit” today (v. 5). It’s Your Spirit who opens the eyes of my heart to see this choice, to see that there is a choice, and who gives me the desire to make this choice--the choice to choose life in the Spirit rather than life in the flesh, to let Your “Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus” set me “free from the Law of Sin and Death” (v. 2).   When I do, by the power of Your grace at work within me, I sense Your deep peace and Your overflowing pleasure that “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus” (v. 1). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, October 31, 2024 - Both “Mighty God” and Greatest “Friend”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. “Mighty God” and my Greatest “Friend,” I look to You and I begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with Your Holy Spirit. ...   “And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).   “No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you” (John 15:15).   By the power of Your grace and in the mystery of faith, You are both my “Mighty God” and my Greatest “Friend.” I don’t deserve it; I couldn’t earn it; but it’s true, nonetheless--for me and for all who are called by Your name, who have You in our hearts through the salvation of our souls. I am a “friend” of God, a “friend” of the “Mighty God.”   May I never take that for granted. May I live out my days of my deeply personal relationship with You in the both the inseparable intimacy of the Lord (Romans 8:38-39) and the reverential fear of the Lord (Acts 9:31). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, October 30, 2024 - Jesus “Lord of All”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. You be high and lifted up, here in my heart and every moment of my day. ...   “Then Peter opened his mouth and said: ‘In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him. The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ—He is Lord of all—that word you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached:  how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree. Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly, not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead. And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead. To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.’   “While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word” (Acts 10:34-43).   Holy Spirit, fall upon me as I hear the word. Fall upon me as I take in the word and let the word become a part of me. Fall upon me afresh this morning and fill me up every morning to go about my day as one of Your “witnesses chosen before by God” along with “whoever believes in (Jesus)” to “receive remission of sins.”   Lord Jesus, as One with the Holy Spirit and One with the Father, You are “ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead.” You are my Judge--not a government, not a political personality, not even my own heart. You are the One who has been given “all authority” that’s “in heaven and earth” and have sent me to be one of Your “disciples” being sent to “make disciples of all nations” in our generation (Matthew 28:18-19).   You are Lord of my life, Lord of all that I am and all that I have and all that I’ll do. Your “Lord of all” (Acts 10:36). By the moving of Your Holy Spirit in me, by the power of Your mercy and grace at work within me to the glory of my Father in heaven, may my life reveal and reflect that Truth--this day and every day. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, October 29, 2024 - “The Lord is My Shepherd”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. You steady my soul as I wait on You in the communion of prayer. ...   As I wait on You and listen for Your leading this morning -- embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit -- one of the first Scriptures I ever learned, as my mom would lead us in prayer at night, comes to mind:   “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.   “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.   “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever” (Psalm 23:1-6).   One of my first, One of my favorites, One that is sealed in my heart forever.   Every word is my prayer. Every word is a declaration of Your goodness and mercy and my desperate dependence upon You alone for all I am and all I need -- right now this morning, throughout every moment of this day, and “All the days of my life.” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today.
