Morning by Morning, July 10 - “Joyful Warriors” Good morning, Lord Jesus. As I begin my day in the communion of prayer with You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God -- set my heart right and my path straight, preparing me to walk in all You have for me today (Proverbs 3:5-6). ... “Joyful warriors.” A contradiction of terms? ... No, when we know the battle belongs to the Lord, we’re full of joy (2 Chronicles 20:15). When we know our true enemy is not the human beings of flesh and blood -- no matter how hateful their words or deceived their minds -- but keep in mind that our true enemy is the spiritual forces of darkness that seek to poison their words and confuse their minds to call evil good and good evil but that our enemy is already defeated by the victory of the Cross, we’re full of joy (Ephesians 6:12). When we know that “the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,” we’re full of joy (2 Corinthians 10:4). Even though the battles are real and the twisted words of lying enemies of righteousness and truth hurt and the destructive plans of the spiritual enemy of our souls, of our children, and of our land is evident, we still have joy in midst of the battles because our joy comes from You and Your joy is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10). One of those inspiring Scriptures from the Word of God that powerfully expresses this very image of the joyful warrior fighting the spiritual battles of the day with the spiritual weapons of our warfare is Psalm 149: “Let the saints be joyful in glory! ... Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, And a two-edged sword in their hand! ... This honor have all His saints” (Psalm 149:5-9). I praise You for the joyful warriors who courageously keep standing up and speaking out across our land in our day -- from the local school board battles to the councils of city government to the airwaves of the radio stations and even in the halls and courts of the highest arenas of the battles for righteousness and truth in our states and our nation. May they never surrender and never retreat before all that is good and right and true. The righteous are bold as a lion” (Proverbs 28:1). They are joyful warriors like You, a Your Word declares in the mighty Song of Moses: “I will sing to the Lord, For He has triumphed gloriously! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea! The Lord is my Strength and Song, And He has become my Salvation; He is my God, and I will exalt Him! The Lord is a Man of War; The Lord is His Name!” (Exodus 15:1-3) “The Lord is a Warrior!” (New Living Translation of Exodus 15:3) And in the Presence of the Lord, there “is fullness of joy!” (Psalm 16:11) Lord, as I honor Your joyful warriors, fill me with Your joy and send me into the battles You’ve chosen for me to fight in strength and song of Your salvation today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
