Morning by Morning, September 27, 2024 - “Go!” and “Make Disciples”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are with me now and always, just as You said (Matthew 28:20). So I embrace You and Your Presence, here in my heart and in every moment of my day. ...   You spoke of  Your Presence with us “always” in Your last words to Your first disciples as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew:   “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age’” (Matthew 28:18-20).   With Your authority, You send us with authority to “Go” and “make disciples,” bringing others in Your kingdom, into Your family, and “teaching them” of Your kingdom and their place in Your family in the authority of Your name and the character of Your heart. As many have noted, the first letters of the “Gospel” spell “Go!”   Our faith is not a passive faith. Our calling is not a hesitant, reluctant, bashful or shy, lazy or complacent calling. It’s alive and active, passionate and zealous, filled with expectant faith about seeing Your Word by Your Spirit make a difference in our world.   Just as with Your first disciples, it’s a faith and calling that’s meant by You to make a difference as we make disciples, until the world around us is “crying out, ‘These who have turned the world upside down have come here too!” (Acts 17:6)   What do You want to turn upside down in my world today, Lord? What do You want to turn upside down in my own heart, in my own attitudes, in my own perspective today, Lord? ...   I’m one of Your disciples. You’ve filled me with faith, called me by name, and sent me to “Go” and “make disciples” in my world. Unite me with Your Spirit and Your other disciples You’ve brought into my life in relationship with me--right here, right now, everywhere You’ll send me in every day I have left in this world--to “Go” and make a difference and see my world turned upside down in the power and authority of Your love and Your name. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, September 26, 2024 - “I Will Lift Up My Eyes to the Hills”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Let the Light of Your Glory arise in my heart today. ...   We’re blessed to live in what’s called “the Texas Hill Country” out west of Austin and northwest of San Antonio in a little community along the Pedernales River Valley called Fredericksburg. There are no mountains here, but there are hills and valleys. And they make for spectacular views at sunrise and sunset. This morning, I was just taking in the view and remembering Your Word of looking up to the hills, and personalizing it to myself:   “I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? 2 My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. 3 He will not allow (my) foot to be moved; He who keeps (me) will not slumber. 4 Behold, He who keeps (me) Shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The Lord is (me) keeper; The Lord is (my) shade at (my) right hand. 6 The sun shall not strike (me) by day, Nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord shall preserve (me) from all evil; He shall preserve (my) soul. 8 The Lord shall preserve (my) going out and (my) coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore” (Psalm 121:1-8).   Yes, Lord. “I will lift up my eyes to the hills.” ...   You are my Helper and my Keeper, the Maker of heaven and earth and in the middle of every moment of my day. I lift up my eyes to “the hills” which speak of Your Presence--high in the earth, high in my heart, high above all that would weigh me down or hold me back from all You’ve created me to be and all You have for me today.   Your Spirit brings to mind another invitation from Your Word to look up to the hill of Your Presence:   “The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. 2 For He has founded it upon the seas, And established it upon the waters. 3 Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? 4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully. 5 He shall receive blessing from the Lord, And righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6 This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face. Selah” (Psalm 24:1-6).   I seek Your face as I look up to Your hills this morning. Cleanse my hands and purify my heart. Let nothing but You be lifted up in my heart, as You are lifted up before me now and throughout the moments of my day. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Morning by Morning, September 25, 2024 - “Set Things Right”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. I’m listening for Your leading (John 10:27). ...   As I wait, what comes to my heart are these words: “Set things right.” ...   Like every morning, I wait now to be led by the Spirit of God as a child of God (Romans 8:14). As I’m listening in my spirit for the wisdom, discernment, and leading of Your Holy Spirit, what comes into the heart of my spirit and then up to in the thoughts of my mind are these words:   “You ‘set things right’ by setting your heart on Me. It’s a choice. It’s an attitude. It’s a perspective that you determine in your heart to embrace. ‘Set things right’ by setting your heart on Me.” ...   Yes, Lord. As seek to discern what I believe I’m hearing in my heart, this Scripture immediately comes to mind to confirm what I believe are Your words to me this morning by the Spirit of God grounded in the Word of God from Colossians Chapter 3. It’s a long Passage, but powerful, convicting, enlightening, and confirming:   “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. "5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, 7 in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.   “8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, 11 where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all. Morning by Morning, September 24, 2024 - “Looking unto Jesus”

 

Morning by Morning, September 24, 2024 - “Looking unto Jesus”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind and Your desires in my heart, as I turn my eyes upon You in my spirit to begin me day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ...   “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:1-2).   Show me how go about my day “looking unto Jesus.” ...   As I wait and listen, these words come to my heart:   “To look unto Me is to set Me before you in every situation, in every encounter along the steps of your day. Be consciously aware of My Presence, for I am with you always. Deliberately, intentionally let Me put My thoughts in your mind and My desires in your heart, that you may act in My nature that comes from the character of My heart.” ...   Yes, Lord. I desire “the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16).   I know You formed Your mind in my mind the moment I was saved and became “a new creation,” that “all things have become new” in You (2 Corinthians 5:17). In that way, “we might become the righteousness of God in (You)” (2 Corinthians 5:21). But at the same time, my old way of thinking still tries to come into the thoughts of my mind and the desires of my heart.   So I need You and the mercy and power of Your grace to be at work within me, giving me Your thoughts and Your desires as I deliberately, intentionally seek You and set You before me--now and throughout the moments of my day, as best as I can and all by Your grace--“looking unto Jesus.” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today.
