Morning by Morning, September 19, 2024 - “Joined” as “One” with God in the Mystery of Faith Good morning, Lord Jesus. You’re One with the Father, One with the Holy Spirit, and I embrace Your invitation to each of us to be one with You--for “he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him” (1 Corinthians 6:17). ... Let my heart be joined with Your Heart. Let my mind be joined with Your Mind. Let my will be joined with Your will and my ways be joined with Your ways. In marriage, Your Word says, “a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and the two shall become one flesh” (Matthew 19:5; Genesis 2:24). In the joining of hearts and minds, there’s such a profound mystery of unity where the husband and wife both retain their individuality, but at the same time, “the two become one.” While separate in their unique identity in one sense, something also changes as they are joined together. “So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate” (Mathew 19:6). In a similar way, that’s the invitation You offer to us--to become “one” with You, even as we maintain our unique identity. You’ll always be our Creator and we will always be Your created. You’ll always be our Savior and we will always be those You came to seek and to save. And at the same, You join us together as “one” with You--“one” with the Father, “one” with the Son, and “one” with the Holy Spirit in this profound mystery of faith. And in that same mystery of faith, nothing “shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39). You expressed Your passion for this unity of spirit in one of Your final prayers before going to the cross in Your great sacrifice of love: “That they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us.... I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me” (John 17:20-23). Lord, give me grace to embrace this Truth and live into this mystery of faith where I’m joined with You as “one” forever and ever. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
