Morning by Morning, January 6, 2025 - From Insurrection to a Resurrection of Passion and Persistence in Prevailing Prayer Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of Kings and Lord of Lords, come rule and reign in my heart and my day (Revelation 19:16). ... As I type out the date of January 6th, I can’t help but think of the sudden chaos and furor that erupted on that day four years ago. Much has been said about what was right and wrong and who was right and wrong. Probably much more will be said from the different perspectives of what happened that day in the life of our nation. But what moves in my heart this morning is a sense that a kind of awakening of prayer with intensity and passion and determination that something must shift, something must change, something that had gripped the soul of our nation had to be exposed and broken, replaced and restored. It was ugly and unprecedented in many ways, in some ways that are still being revealed and examined. Whether good or bad, right or wrong, what some called an insurrection in many ways sparked a resurrection of the spirit of prayer for our nation. That turned out to be a dark day that still determines the direction of many lives. But You spoke Your Words of hope for resurrection life to the people of God during dark days long ago, if they would humble their hearts to turn to You in the humble, yet persevering, persistent, passionate, prevailing prayer: “Then the Lord appeared to Solomon by night, and said to him: ‘I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice. When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place. For now I have chosen and sanctified this house, that My name may be there forever; and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually” (2 Chronicles 7:12-16). The same day You spoke those Words was the same day “fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord filled the temple” so that “the priests could not enter the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord’s house” (2 Chronicles 7:1-2). Lord, let Your fire come down from heaven today — in our hearts and in our nation. Thank You that Your fire is coming down from heaven today. You’re bringing us out of the darkness and into Your Light in more ways than we know. You’re turning our days of chaos into a chorus of Your praise. You’re turning what some would call insurrection into a resurrection of prayer and passion and persistence to see Your Word and Your Spirit prevail in our land and across our world, to see Your kingdom come and Your will be done on Earth and in our hearts and in our nation, right here and right now, as it is in Heaven. It is the dawning of a new day. And may we not lose our passion or our humility to keep turning to You in repentance and prayer, in worship and praise, with expectant hearts for all You will do as You hear our prayers and heal our land! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. In the love of Jesus, Tommy Hays
