Morning by Morning, April 22 - Outpouring

 

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I seek You first, O Lord, my God -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Speak to my heart and guide my thoughts as I seek to entrust my life and this day completely to You.  ...

 

As soon as I begin to pray this morning, I hear in my heart the word "Outpouring."  ...

 

Yes, Lord. I'm listening. What are You speaking?  ...

 

It seems I hear You saying, "I am pouring out My Spirit upon your heart, upon your city, upon your land. I am opening the windows of My heaven and pouring out a great measure of My Spirit. Like a cleansing rain that washes away the impurities and the allergens in the air, I am cleansing the hearts of My people and washing away the impurities of their souls. For all who would open wide their hearts to Me, I am opening wide My heavens to them."  ...

 

Yes, Lord. I want to be one who is opening wide my heart to You. Show me how to do that. Empower me by Your grace to do that.

 

I believe I hear You saying, "You open wide your heart when you seek Me first, when you don't hold back, when you willingly and passionately choose to welcome Me into the beginning and every moment of your day, when you worship Me in spirit and truth."

 

Yes, Lord. "The hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such as these to worship Him. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth" (John 4:23-24).

 

Worship welcomes Your Spirit. As we pour out our hearts to You, You pour out Your Spirit upon us -- upon our hearts, upon our city, upon our land. And You cleanse us by the washing of the water of Your word (Ephesians 5:26). You fill us with Your Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). "Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and of spirit, making holiness perfect in the fear of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 7:1).

 

Come, Holy Spirit. Stir in our spirits to worship our Father, worshiping our Savior, in spirit and truth, letting You cleanse our souls and awaken our hearts with fresh passion to love the Lord our God with all our heart and soul and mind and strength" (Mark 12:30). Father God, in the name of Jesus, would You "open the windows of heaven for (us) and pour down for (us) an overflowing blessing" of Your Presence in every dimension of our lives (Malachi 3:10).

 

In a deeper measure than we've ever experienced in our hearts, in our city, and in our land, would You continue to fulfill the promise of Your Word:  "In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream visions. Even upon My slaves, both men and women, in those days I will pour out My Spirit; and they shall prophesy. And I will show portents in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and smoky mist. The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the coming of the Lord's great and glorious day. Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Acts 2:17-21 and Joel 2:28-32).

 

Father, I come into agreement in prayer with everyone who calls on the name of the Lord, with everyone who passionately cries out to You to worship You in spirit and truth, with everyone who welcomes You into every moment of their days, with everyone who opens wide their hearts to embrace Your Presence, Your power, Your grace, and Your love. I agree with every prayer for a fresh outpouring of Your Spirit in our hearts and our city and our land (2 Chronicles 7:14). 

 

"O that You would tear open the heavens and come down!" (Isaiah 64:1) O that You would revive us and awaken us, that the kingdom of heaven would rise up from within us! (Ephesians 5:14)  In this mighty outpouring of Your Spirit, may we passionately, persistently pursue our identity and our destiny as the pure and holy and passionate Bride and Body of Christ You've created us to be and longed for us to become! (Ephesians 5:27)  

 

Lord, let it be so -- here on earth -- here in our hearts, in our city, in our land -- as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10). By the power and the grace of God, "the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea!" (Habakkuk 2:14)  In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Morning by Morning, April 21 - Radiant Aroma

 

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Fill me with Your Spirit and draw me deeply into Your Presence, as I begin my day centered in You.  ...

 

As I wait for the leading of Your Spirit, I hear these words in my heart:  "Radiant Aroma."  ... Lord, what are You speaking to me by these words?  ...

 

The Scriptures come to mind of the offerings made by fire upon the altar of the Lord, burning with the radiance of the fire and releasing a pleasing aroma to God. "And the priest shall burn all on the altar as a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, a sweet aroma to the Lord" (Leviticus 1:9 NKJV).

 

All of the laws and the rituals of the Old Covenant are fulfilled in You, Lord Jesus (Matthew 5:17). You are the Altar; You are the Sacrifice; You are the Fire. You are the Radiance and You are the Aroma. "Walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma" (Ephesians 5:2 NKJV).

 

And now, in Christ, we are to "be imitators of God as dear children" (Ephesians 5:1 NKJV). "But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads in every place the fragrance that comes from knowing Him. For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing" (2 Corinthians 2:14-15 NRSV). And now the fire of God, the holy Fire of Your Holy Spirit burns within our hearts to display the radiance of Your glory through our lives (Luke 24:32; Isaiah 61:3). "Christ in (us), the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27).

 

My Father God, let me be a radiant aroma of Christ today. I offer my life "a living sacrifice" to You (Romans 12:1). As the fire of Your Spirit burns in my heart, let me be radiant with Your glory shining through me and let the aroma of Christ diffuse the atmosphere around me everywhere You send me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Morning by Morning, April 20 - "In Your Hearts Sanctify Christ as Lord"

 

Good morning, Lord Jesus. You're Lord of my life. Come be Lord of the moments of my day.  ...

 

"In your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord" (1 Peter 3:15).

 

Lord, I know You're the One who saves me and sanctifies me. You're the One who forgives me and frees me, who heals me and holds me. You're the One the loves me and leads me, who calls me and commissions me. So how do I "sanctify Christ as Lord" in my heart?  ...

 

It seems I hear You say in my heart:  "You sanctify Me as Lord in your heart to the degree that you choose to trust Me and entrust to Me that measure of control and authority in your life, from your heart."  ...

 

Yes, Lord. Any area of my heart, any area of my life, where I'm in control, I'm not trusting You to be in control. Where I'm being Lord, I'm not trusting You to be Lord. Those are the places of my heart I've not fully committed and surrendered to You alone as Lord of my life.

 

Show me those places, Lord. Search my heart and see if there's anything I'm holding back from You, anything I'm protecting and guarding within myself instead of fully entrusting myself to completely to You, anything in me that's not yet like You. "Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, (any resistant, not fully trusting way in me), and lead me in the way everlasting" (Psalm 139:23-24).

 

And as You reveal these things to me, these places in my heart I've not fully surrendered to You, help me trust You more so I can choose to surrender more -- as best as I can and all by grace, more and more every day. Give me the wisdom and the courage, the power and the grace, to sanctify You as Lord in my heart, Lord Jesus Christ. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Morning by Morning, April 19 "Rain Down Righteousness"

 

Good morning, Lord Jesus. At the beginning of my day, I want to begin with You -- embraced by the Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit.  ...

 

"Shower, O heavens, from above, and let the skies rain down righteousness; let the earth open, that salvation may spring up, and let it cause righteousness to spurt up also; I the Lord have created" (Isaiah 45:8).

 

We've had heavy rains for a few days. Rains can be destructive or rains can be a blessing -- and sometimes rains can be both. Rains can flood our lives, but also replenish our land. Sometimes the rains of our physical realm speak of truths taking place in our spiritual realm.

 

Rain down righteousness, O Lord! Cleanse our hearts and our land by the washing of the water of Your Word (Ephesians 5:26). Renew us and replenish us, revive us and awaken us, as You wash away the clutter from our souls (Ephesians 5:14).

 

Come, Holy Spirit. Rain down righteousness in our land -- may we be set right with God, right with each other, and right within ourselves. And let the fullness our salvation spring up in us and in our land. "If My people who are called by My name humble themselves, pray, seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land" (2 Chronicles 7:14). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Morning by Morning, April 18 - "Overflow More and More"

 

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me hear Your heart, as I begin my day in communion with You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  ...

 

"And this is my prayer, that your love may overflow more and more with knowledge and full insight to help you to determine what is best, so that in the day of Christ you may be pure and blameless, having produced the harvest of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ for the glory and praise of God" (Philippians 1:9-11).

 

Lord Jesus, make me more like You today. Make me more like You each day. Teach me and empower me to allow Your love and Your life to "overflow more and more" out of me. More, Lord -- more of Your love, more of Your power, more of Your nature, more of Your will -- more of You in me, more of You overflowing out of me. 

 

Set me free from everything in me that is not yet like You (Romans 8:29). Renew my mind (Romans 12:2). Change my heart (Psalm 51:10). Cleanse my soul (1 John 1:9). Together will all who seek to be more like You, help me "grow up in every way" into Christ-likeness, "to maturity, to the full measure of the full stature of Christ" (Ephesians 4:13 and 15). 

 

I know I have far to go. But I also know by the yearning of Your Holy Spirit stirring within my human sprit that I'm on the journey (Galatians 4:19). "And I am certain that God, who began the good work within (me), will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns" (Philippians 1:6 NLT). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Morning by Morning, April 15 - Free from Fear in the Grip of God

 

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Your name is the name above every name (Philippians 2:9). Let Your name be above every moment of my day.  ...

 

"But you, Israel, My servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham, My friend; you whom I took from the ends of the earth, and called from its farthest corners, saying to you, 'You are My servant, I have chosen you and not cast you off;' do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with My victorious right hand.... For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, 'Do not fear, I will help you'" (Isaiah 41:8-13).

 

Through Christ, I'm a spiritual descendant of Abraham, with all the blessings of Abraham (Galatians 3:6-9). And through Christ, I'm a child of God, with all the blessings of a child of God -- "for in Christ Jesus (we) are all children of God through faith" (Galatians 3:26).

 

One of Your greatest blessings for the descendants of Abraham, for the children of God is the blessing of freedom from fear. You know the struggles we have and the battles we face. You know the uncertainties and worries we encounter in the unsettledness of our journey as strangers in a foreign land through the challenges of this broken and fallen world. But You constantly remind us, "You are not alone. I am with you. Fear not. Hold on to Me and know that I am always holding on to you."

 

O Lord, take me by Your hand and lead me by my heart. Remind me who I am and help me always remember who You are. You're my Father, and I'm Your child. You've chosen me and called me. You strengthen me and encourage me. And You empower me to overcome every worry and fear in Your perfect love (1 John 4:18). 

 

In the grip of Your hand, I'm free from fear. Your mighty right hand is victorious! And so am I in You. Thank You for this blessing. Thank You for Your words of spirit and life and truth You're speaking into my spirit today (John 6:63). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Morning by Morning, April 14 - Complete Joy

 

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Speak to my heart, Good Shepherd of my soul, I pray. Help me begin this day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit.  ...

 

"I have said these things to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete" (John 15:11).

 

Complete joy is only in Jesus. No Jesus, no joy. Know Jesus, know joy.

 

Lord Jesus, You long for Your joy to be in us. So You speak to us and teach us and lead us into Your joy. And You express to us the interwoven, inseparable relationship between love, obedience, and joy:  "My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become My disciples. As the Father has loved Me, so I have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. I have said these things to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. This is My commandments, that you love one another as I have loved you" (John 15:8-12).

 

A joyful life is a fruitful life -- a life that's fruitful through receiving and sharing the love of God through Jesus Christ. Lord, teach me how to love more deeply and how to embrace Your joy more fully. Increase my capacity for joy as You increase my capacity for love. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Morning by Morning, April 12 - Look and Love

 

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I welcome here in my heart and every moment of my day. Now I listen and wait for the leading of Your Spirit, here in the embrace of my Father.  ...

 

"Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said, 'You lack one thing; go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow Me'" (Mark 10:21). 

 

You know what it is in each of our hearts that holds us back from fully following You. For some, it's wealth or pride. For others, it's loss and lack. For some, it's the shame and regret of our past. For others, it's the fear and uncertainty of our future. But whatever it is, You look at us and You love us. You never turn away from us, but encourage us to entrust all that we are and all that we have completely to You.

 

And just as You look at us and love us, You want to give us that same heart toward those around us. We're not to stare and judge; we're to look and love. As I pray, I hear Your Spirit writing a song in my heart of You call to us to look and to love with Your eyes and Your heart. ...

 

You look and you love

And the arms from above

Will reach around you

Will love right through you

 

As You look and you love

He'll be more than enough

He will reach around you 

He will love right through you

 

Just give Him your heart

He will give you His eyes

And wherever you are

You'll be His sight

 

To look and to love

With His arms from above

To the lost and the least

To heal and set free

 

In the power of His love

His Kingdom will come

As He opens your eyes

To look and to love

 

Yes, Lord. Let it be so. Just as You look at me, but reach out and love to me, let me do the same -- as best as I can and all by Your grace. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Morning by Morning, April 11 - "Let Love be Genuine"

 

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me begin this day and every day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with Your Holy Spirit.  ...

 

"Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are. Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all" (Romans 12:9-18).

 

Lord, is my love genuine? Does it come from a heart that's been wholly surrendered to You? Does it honestly express a true desire to be genuinely concerned for the needs and hopes of those around me You bring into my life? Or do I only love to be loved; do I only give in order to get; do I only act like how I think I ought to look in the eyes of others; do I only say what I think someone wants to hear if it will advance my cause and serve my plans? Or is it a little of both?

 

If I'm really honest with You and honest with myself, I'd have to admit I still have a long way to go to have a heart like You, completely genuine in love. "The heart is devious above all else; it is perverse -- who can understand it?" (Jeremiah 17:9).

 

But at the same time, "(You) test the mind and search the heart" (Jeremiah 17:10). You long to "create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me" (Psalm 51:10). And Your Spirit pours Your love into my heart to make my heart more like Yours every day that I continue to open my heart to You (Romans 5:5). So by the power of the grace of God, "(I) do not lose heart. Even though (my) outter nature is wasting away, (my) inner nature is being renewed day by day" (2 Corinthians 4:16). 

 

Throughout the moments of my day, You offer me the choice to embrace the heart of genuine love You continually offer to me. You continually invite me to live into the truth of the new and clean heart You've created in me. "For the love of Christ urges us on ... So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation:  everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!" (2 Corinthians 5:17) Even my heart and the genuineness of my love -- "all this is from God" (2 Corinthians 5:18). Thank You, Jesus. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
