Back to School Prayer - August 16, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, August 16 - Back to School Prayer Good morning, Lord Jesus. My Lord and Savior, Good Shepherd of my soul, I welcome You here in my heart and every moment of my day. ... This morning, my heart turns to You on behalf of all our children going back to school -- kindergarten or college, public or private, vocational or spiritual, at home or abroad. And as I listen for the leading of Your Spirit, this Story of Your heart for our children comes to mind: “(Jesus) called a child, whom He put among them, and said, ‘Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever welcomes one such child in My name welcomes Me. If any of you put a stumbling block before one of these little ones who believe in Me, it would be better for you if a great millstone were fastened around your neck and you were drowned in the depth of the sea.... Take care that you do not despise one of these little ones; for, I tell you, in heaven their angels continually see the face of My Father in heaven.... So it is the will of your Father in heaven that not one of these little ones should be lost” (Matthew 18:2-14).   For many “little ones,” this is the first day of school to start off this school year. Some have already begun; others will begin soon; yet, all are always learning, always vulnerable, and always in need of our prayers and Your angels.   Thank You for these “ministering spirits” who are Your guardian angels sent forth at Your command and watch over our children and Yours -- not just when they're little, but all the days of their lives. "Are not all angels spirits in the divine service, sent to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?" (Hebrews 1:14) "Praise the Lord, you angels, you mighty ones who carry out His plans, listening for each of His commands. Yes, praise the Lord, you armies of angels who serve Him and do His will!" (Psalm 103:20-21)   Father, we entrust our children to You -- to Your word and Your will, Your protection and Your purposes, Your guidance and Your guardians, Your care and Your compassion, Your heart and Your hands. We entrust them to Your Holy Spirit in Your heavenly school, as they go back to school, secure in the Spirit. You love them even more than we do and even more than we ever could. So we know You'll watch over them -- sending forth Your word and Your warriors -- in ways we can't and never could. "The Lord is like a father to His children, tender and compassionate to those who fear Him" and carefully watching over all those entrusted to Him (Psalm 103:13). We trust in You to protect their immune systems from covid and their minds from confusion, their spirits from criticism and their bodies from abuse, their hearts from rejection and their thoughts from fear. We trust You to be with them through the challenges, as they mature in character. Fill them with Your Spirit and anoint them for learning. Remind them of who they are in You and who You are in them, as they grow “in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and with man” in the model of Jesus (Luke 2:52). Then bring them home again, safe and sound, secure in Your Spirit and growing in the confidence of their true identity in You. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! Brave in Battle, Trusting the One Who Give Us Victory - August 13, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, August 13 - Brave in Battle, Trusting the One Who Give Us Victory Good morning, Lord Jesus. I welcome You here in my heart and here in every moment of my day. ... I’m thinking this morning of my son in the United States Army, Airborne Infantry. As always, he is preparing for battle with the men and women who wear our colors, defend our nation, and fight for freedom wherever they’re sent. Their assignment is to “respond to crisis contingencies anywhere in the world within 18 hours” and are deemed to be “the U.S. Army’s most strategically mobile division.” As I prayed, I sent him this Word this morning from the words You spoke through Your priests before the days of battle of the armies of Israel: “When you are about to go into battle, the priest shall come forward and address the army. He shall say: ‘Hear, Israel: Today you are going into battle against your enemies. Do not be fainthearted or afraid; do not panic or be terrified by them. For the Lord your God is the One who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory” (Deuteronomy 20:2–4). You are the One who goes with us into battle. You are the One who gives us victory. Just as the armies of the earth go into battle, so do the armies of the Lord who are called by Your name to engage the spiritual battles we face every day -- battles of good and evil, truth and lies, freedom and bondage, spirit and flesh. Battles within and battles without. But You go with us into battle. You give us victory, as we turn to You and call on Your name and trust in You, no matter what we go through. There is a true peace that only comes through confrontation with what is wrong, that never comes with the complacency of the compromise of appeasement. That true peace comes in fulfillment of the Promise of Your Word in the spiritual battles we face every day: “The God of peace will shortly crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you!” (Romans 16:20) You don’t crush our spiritual enemy under our feet in our strength, our wisdom, or the weapons of this world, but by the name of Jesus on our lips and character of Jesus being formed in our hearts. It’s only by the power of “the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.” And by the power of Your grace, we don’t ever have to be fainthearted or afraid. For You empower us by Your Spirit to be brave in battle and fearless to victory. No matter what we face, no matter what the battlefield looks like at the end of the day, we always have victory when our eyes on You and Your Spirit is in us. “Thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads in every place the fragrance that comes from knowing Him” (2 Corinthians 2:14). “And this is the victory that overcomes the world -- our faith” (1 John 5:4). “Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!” (1 Corinthians 15:57) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! “Experiential Revelation” - August 12, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, August 12 - “Experiential Revelation” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Lord and Savior, Word of God, the Way and the Truth and the Life, infuse me with Your Presence as You fill me with Your Spirit. ... “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Yet a little while and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you also will live. In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. Whoever has My commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him” (John 14:18-21). Lord, give me grace to grab hold of this truth. There is a oneness that You’ve invited us to embrace and live into that’s hard to believe and even harder to grasp. You do live. And in the mystery of faith and by the grace of God, You actually live in us. Christ in us (Colossians 1:27). We actually are “the body of Christ” filled with “the Spirit of Christ” (1 Corinthians 12:27; Romans 8:9). We actually are “one spirit” with You as we embrace Your Spirit in us, for “He who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him” (1 Corinthians 6:17). Though it seems too good to be true and it’s so hard to grasp this truth, it is true, nonetheless. You are the Vine and we are the branches; You abide in us and we abide in You, because we are one with You (John 15:5). I was speaking at a meeting yesterday when words of heaven started to flow out of my heart (1 Corinthians 14:1-3). You said by Your Spirit, “I am calling you up to a higher place of ‘experiential revelation’ in Me.”  As far as I know, I had never heard or said that phrase of “experiential revelation” before. But more understanding followed. I believe You were expressing that You are giving us a grace in this newest season we’ve just entered into to experience revelation of Your truth at a deeper level than ever before -- not just knowing Your truth, but experiencing Your truth, not just believing Your truth, but living Your truth. And of course, You are “the Truth” (John 14:6). To experience and live into “the Truth” is to experience and live into You -- into the inexpressible, almost unfathomable, depth of intimacy and unity of a spiritual oneness with You. For example, we don’t just believe the revelation of Your truth that “we have the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16). We experience that revelation; we live that revelation. Because You live, we also live. But not just living in our spirit, where we were dead and now alive, where we were lost but now we’re found in the salvation of our souls. It’s more than that. While we’re eternally grateful for that, it’s so much more than that! It’s actually, literally, experientially, Your life in us and our life in You. I feel like my words are failing me right now to try to express all that’s exploding in my heart! ... But as I flounder, Your written Word comes to mind to confirm what I believe to be Your spoken word in my spirit from Your High Priestly Prayer of John 17: “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word, that they may all be one, just as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You have sent Me. The glory that You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one even as We are one, I in them and You in Me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that You sent Me and loved them even as You loved Me” (John 17:20-23). O lord, my God, give us grace to embrace and experience so great a revelation! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! Pouring Out the Bowls of Prayer - August 10, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, August 10 - Pouring Out the Bowls of Prayer Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind and Your desires in my heart, as I begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ... "Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel's hand. Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it to the earth. And there were noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake” (Revelation 8:3-5). Our prayers go up and Your fire comes down! We send our prayers and Your send Your word! Prayer changes things. Prayer is our participation with You in the releasing of Your will on earth, Your kingdom on earth, as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10). Prayer draws us near to You in intimacy and prayer allows us to encounter Your power in our lives and through our lives (Matthew 7:7; John 15:7; 1 John 5:14-15). Our prayers are not like vapors that aimlessly rise and dissipate somewhere up on the atmosphere. No, Your Word says our prayers “ascend before God” until it’s time for Your fire to fall, Your word to be released, Your kingdom to come and Your will to be done (Revelation 8:4). And at the same time, there is a timing to Your answers to our prayers. As our prayer go up, they’re filling up “golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints” (Revelation 5:8). I tend to think of these bowls of the incense of our prayers as involving all the seasons and situations of our lives. There will be the ultimate fulfillment of the bowls being filled up and poured out upon the earth at the time of the end, seen as “the seven bowls of the wrath of God” (Revelation 16:1). Surely on that day there will be “noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake!” (Revelation 8:5)  But even before that day to come at the end of days, I believe the bowls of our prayers are being filled up and poured out -- as Your kingdom is already coming and Your will is already being done, here on earth, here in our hearts, here in the seasons and situations of our lives right now. Prayer makes a difference. Prayer changes things. “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much” (James 5:16 NKJV). “The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working” (James 5:16 ESV). So Lord, hear our prayer. Move with noises and thunderings and lightnings and earthquakes in the seasons and situations or our lives today. Let us not wait for the end of days for You to set things right. Move in our hearts to pray Your Word and Your will by the leading of Your Spirit today. “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God” (Romans 8:26-27).  Let our prayers go up and Your fire come down! Let our prayers fill up the bowls of Your will to be released on earth and in our lives -- all in Your time, all in Your way, all in Your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.  Be encouraged today!
